Early this morning, a late addition to the SMJHL was approved to enter the league. Traveling from Turku, Finland this addition is none other than Two-Way Centerman Timmo Kyllonen. Timmo will be up for bid to the SMJHL General Managers and is expected to sign a contract by 12:00 noon today.
The question is which team will need his services and which team will Kyllonen choose to sign with? We broke down a landscape of each teams likeliness to offer a contract and Timmo's initial impression of said teams.
Anaheim Outlaws
The Outlaws don't seem to have a need at the Center position with McShotty, Westbroek and Rockatansky in the lineup however signing Kyllonen as a depth forward shouldn't be out of the question. By the time the mentioned above are ready to move into an SHL role, Timmo would be more than ready to fill the hole left behind on Anaheim's roster. Not to mention he could serve as a direct replacement to McIntyre who's improvement on the ice has been non existent. Kyllonen has not yet commented on his thoughts about Anaheim.
Anchorage Armada
Unlikely to need an add at Center is the Armada with all 4 lines filled with a middle man including 5 players like Halkias, MacLean, Leskinen, Dzerins and Yzerman Jr. However, it wouldn't be to far fetched to see the Armada attempt to sign Kyllonen as an extra for now and with plans to bump one of the above into a healthy scratch with his defensive upside and high probability of success. It should be easy for management to see that in no time at all, Kyllonen would be ready as a replacement to Leskinen, Dzerins and Yzerman Jr. who have all dropped low in potential since they joined the team. Timmo has been quoted saying he would potentially sign with the Armada if offered a contract as they boast the "most badass team name".
Colorado Raptors
A total of five centers showing on Colorado's roster, a contract offer to Timmo Kyllonen seems almost out of the question until a closer look is had at said players. Of the five players, Peralta, Coitus-Wagg and Knurtson seem to be a promising three but Reily and Odinsson have not seemed to develop as fast as Colorado has probably hoped. If an offer is sent in, it would likely be for a 4th line role until Timmo proves his worth and some of the top talent is called up to their SHL teams at which time he would be ready for the promotion. Kyllonen, when asked publicly replied to interviewers asking on his view of the team stated he "enjoyed their color scheme the most".
Detroit Falcons
Detroit already has many players in the middle position with Driver, Peters, Knutsen Jr., TheMagnificent, Zvejnieks and R. Kyllonen. What makes the chances of a contract offer being sent to Timmo potentially possible is the fact that doppelganger Raino is on the roster. When Timmo was declared eligible for the SMJHL, fans everywhere couldn't believe the coincidence that another Kyllonen would be in the league. What takes it one step further is the fact they are both Centers, both first names end in "o" and their Jersey numbers are just 1 number off. Fans are calling on the Falcons to sign Timmo for the "brothers from another mother duo". Still however from a management standpoint, Detroit is set in the position and will likely pass on the second Kyllonen.
Halifax Raiders
The team Timmo has been quoted as admiring the most simply for their "badass logo" at first glance also seems unlikely to offer a contract to a new center. The Raiders are stacked with four superstar centerman who need no introduction in Parmborg, Wawazat, Matsson and Kholin. We could see however a contract offered with minimal ice time until Kyllonen has surpassed Matsson's seemingly stagnant improvement as of late and in Halifax's preparation for the inevitable call up of one or more of their stars.
Kelowna Knights
Kelowna seems to have done very well in stacking their center position with superstars Sharp, Batsback and Scherbak as well as promising talent Malichov and Lee. Out of all the mentioned teams above, the Knights may be the most unlikely to offer Kyllonen a contract proposal. Even if and when one of their top guys gets the call up, the General Managers here have already seemed to be ahead of the game. If a contract is offered to Timmo it will be because Kelowna sees a need for his Two-Way game and defensive talent in the future. Not yet commenting on Kelowna, we believe Timmo to be "neutral" to this team.
Lethbridge Lions
The Lions have two superstar centerman in Luffy and Eykhil already, with the very promising Bombay on the up and come. Lethebidge should be sending an offer to Kyllonen although as he can fill a spot now with McCarty basically falling off the map in production as well as preparing for the future with potential call ups to the SHL in the near future being a possibility. Comparing the Lions to all teams mentioned so far, this team is the most likely to need Timmo's services in a promising Two-Way at the center position. Kyllonen was however quoted in an interview saying the Lions colors remind him of "McDonald's" and reporters weren't sure if he meant it in a negative or positive way.
Montreal Militia
Montreal has done a fine job padding their ranks with the likes of Angello, Svensson and Hagan but we do see a potential need for this team to sign Timmo for their future success. Kyllonen is able to fill a 4th line role now and easily take the promotion when the above get the phone call to play big league. In comparison to other teams on the table Montreal seems like a likely buyer and Timmo has said his feelings are "neutral" in regards to the franchise, could this equal a match?
St. Louis Scarecrows
St. Louis has three promising and fairly young centerman on the roster with Kandinsky, Poroshenko and Boone. All three players show constant improvement and value. We see a contract offer still likely to happen between the Scarecrows and Kyllonen as there is still a 4th line position available with the team despite the talent they already have. Bringing Timmo into the franchise would secure their center position for many seasons and help build a pool of talent with a lot of depth. Timmo has not commented publicly on his thoughts about whether or not he would sign here but we believe he has no reason not to.
Vancouver Whalers
Vancouver is probably the last team that will send Kyllonen a contract proposal, if one is ever sent. Their centerman are among the best in the league with amazing players like Kerr, Cannellini, Raanta, Wilson with up and coming Hepbjorn set to takeover when those four are called up. The Whalers will not likely need a player like Timmo for a while and we see them never even initiating contact. If a contract is somehow tendered to Kyllonen it is believed he would be inclined to accept as he was quoted saying he had visited Canada's west coast and it "is some of the most beautiful land the world has to offer".
