The opening week of the SMJHL's regular season has come to an end and two story lines dominated the headlines this week. The Oliver Cleary saga came to an end with Cleary bouncing back from his own Golden Aardvark week by securing a trade to his preferred team, the Detroit Falcons. The trade itself got a lot of people wondering how the hell Montreal would make that trade putting them on the shortlist for this week's Golden Aardvark. The other main story line of the week was another trade stand off with St. Louis's Taisei-Tiikeri Wawazat very publicly and very impulsively demanding a trade. It was soon revealed that his reasons for demanding a trade weren't things that were actually going to happen which became kind of embarrassing for him and gave him a spot on this week's short list. With last week's Golden Aardvark being very well received by the SMJHL community we knew we couldn't disappoint this week and so here we go, the winner of the Golden Aardvark for week 2 is...
TAISEI-TIIKERI WAWAZAT OF THE ST. LOUIS SCARECROWS HALIFAX RAIDERS!!!!!!!
Congratulations @
Wawazat !! It was a close one this week with the Militia's absolute disaster of a trade, they traded a player that they had full rights to and basically caved in a situation where they had all the control to acquire a 4th round pick which not only won't even help them this season but with draft's like this year's won't be very useful at all. That trade then looked even worse when the other hold out situation came to an end with St. Louis getting a solid depth centre and a 2nd round pick in exchange for a player that they had much less control over. This trade would have been enough to seal the deal and give Montreal's GMs the Golden Aardvark but then we realized who Wawazat had been traded to....the Halifax Raiders. Ouch. So Wawazat starts by publicly demanding a trade due to lack of ice time, only for members of the St. Louis organization to come out and say that he was going to be playing in the top 6 this season and not on the 3rd line like he claimed he would which is embarrassing in itself but then St. Louis trades him in what was a good trade for them but which was also a trade that sent him from one of the league's best teams to one of the laughing stocks of the league...where he has since been playing in the exact same role that he had in St. Louis, that's Golden Aardvark levels of yikes.
Well that's it for this week, we'll be back again next week with another Golden Aardvark winner. Always remember if you believe someone is deserving of their very own shiny Golden Aardvark, feel free to let us know.
