Doubles Week For Media
(1360 Word Count x 2)

Someone told us that Media about the upcoming Season 48 SHL Entry Draft, is double pay for the next few days! Seems like a no-brainer to this reporter and since Zarley Zalapski gets a huge dividend of my work he has been bothering me to write this piece. Since this is the first time covering the draft and the mock draft this reporter found it odd that all the mock draft picks are posted publicly. After the thread was opened and the first mock draft posted it was funny to see all the copycats come out to play. Not that these picks won't get changed over the next 24 hours or so but it was an interesting concept to say the least. Some mock drafts were different but for the most part, most of them were exactly the same. The lower in the draft the more this was apparent. With this type of, dare I say collusion, or concept you would think that mock drafts would have to be sent to the graders in a private matter. This would make the rest of the league work harder and actually track down all the players. Of course with all the social networking these days, it isn't hard to fathom that information would be shared anyways by those in the "in crowd" or "click". So the beat goes on and if anyone does have an inside track on the information it means a large amount of extra TPE earned to those with the connections. Five TPE for completing the task but 16 TPE on the chopping block for those who are good at seeing into the future! That amount of TPE is kinda huge for the rookies who are in the mix.

Let us try to break down some of this monster, that is the draft. This requires a ton of work and knowledge about the teams and the available players. Do the teams in the top of the picking order need offense or defense? Are they willing to pick up a goalie for the future? It would seem that a goalie is the most risk/reward option, since life could get in the way and the player goes inactive causing a total loss in the investment. On the other hand, with legends who have proven themselves for five years or more, you have less risk. This league is an offensive minded one and it only takes a once look over, to notice, that most players are working the offense compared to the defense. Defense still wins championships from our perspective so when building a team, I think one should work form the Goalie, to the Defense, to the Offense. Re-creates are a bit easier to pick up since the anxiety level isn't as high to the General Mangers. They know these players have a proven track record and will not disappoint. These players or re-creates have forged long term friendships over the years making things a little biased. However, in life, this is always the case in general.

Now, let us look at ten players listed in most "Mock Draft" near the top.
6 players are Forwards, 4 players are Defensemen and 1 Goaltender.
What you will find in these listings, are SMJHL Team played for...

Hahaha!
I did know that, it may have helped that the Crows had a great regular season, we ended up with a goal differential of 38!
Hoping I can keep that number up though, always nice to see a plus in front of that number.

I guess re-creates abandon ship sometimes too!
You just never know with the draft!
You make choices and you live with them!
