Texas Renegades prospect pool
#1

The Texas Renegades Prospect Pool has Taken a little hit in the last few seasons. Call ups like Konstantin and Togurad have left the prospect pool, all but void. But Texas has been on a mission to “restock the Cupboard” so to speak.

S 47 Draftee Josef Kubinec, S 48 Draftees Haley Knight, Patrick Niederreiter and Padraig Sarantez  round out the current crop of prospects and with 2 1st round picks in this coming draft, The Texas Renegades will have a deep Prospect pool once again.

S47 Draftee Josef Kubinec:

Looking Back at the S47 Draft, it’s hard to imagine that Kubinec went 53rd overall to Texas. Especially when you look at this past seasons numbers in the SMJHL. Kubinec was second in team goals with 20 and 3rd in team Points with 42.  In 10 Games in the playoffs this season he lead the team in goals with 5 and sits 4th in points with 9. He has become a solid scoring forward.

A solid mix of Skating, Strength, Passing and Endurance. His strongest qualities are Scoring and Positioning (Defense). The young Czech is making a strong case as a late draft steal, if he hasn’t made the case yet.

S48 Draftee Haley Knight:

Texas Traded a 5th round reddit pick so they could get the 31st pick in the draft. And with it came Haley Knight. A young Offensive D man. When she was drafted there was talk of New England possibly drafting her 5 picks later but Texas made the move to make sure she became a Renegade.  She led all Defensemen on her team in points as well as setting a new season high in points for herself in just her second season. 16 goals and 13 assists for 29 points. After 16 points in her first season she has eclipsed her previous totals. In 10 playoff games so far she has 2 goals and 6 points. Having now 100 games played in the regular season for Halifax she has 10 goals 35 assists for 45 points, she is is +14 and has 12 powerplay points. All in all not bad for a 31st overall selection.

Still developing, she has very strong strengths in Scoring and defensive positioning. Along with that, she can skate.  She has been working on her passing and puck handling skills to better round out her game.

S 48 Draftee Padraig Sarantez:

Texas made him their 1st round  pick in S48 draft picking him 13th overall (12 because of the forfeit pick). They were looking for a 2 - way D man and made sure he was that player.  Sarantez finished the season with 10 goals and 11 assists. Not bad for a 2- way defensman. Expectations are high for this pick, and so far he has delivered. He was a - 2 while playing some of the J’s toughest players. While he is Defensively solid,  he also had 8 points on the power play. A solid player that will make Texas defensive line solid for many seasons to come.

An Elite skill is his  defensive positioning. it’s an obvious view, but his passing and Skating are also very solid. Add to that his puck handling with is also a solid attribute that he has and we have an obvious 1st rounder. A pick that I believe Texas will enjoy for a long time.

S 48 Draftee Patrick Niederreiter:

Texas lost their S47 goalie pick to retirement as Grande fell out of love with the game. So logically, Texas replaced him with another goalie in this draft. 2nd round pick and 29th overall Texas chose Anaheim Backup and promising elite superstar, Patrick Niederreiter. Already a four star cup champion before the draft, Niederreiter got just 12 games in this season. With Soonika looking like he’s getting called up, The #1 goalie job is certain to be his. In 12 games he went 3-4-2 with a 0.877 SV% and a 3.65 G.A.A. While the goals against needs to come down, his save percentage is in the norm for the SMJHL and with more games being played both numbers will come down.  The air apparent to Walter Hobbs looks to be developing nicely in Anaheim. Texas has no worries about his ability to develop well and become a an elite goalie at the SHL level.

Quick glance at the scouting sheet for him and we see that overall he is a balanced Goalie. His hand speed, style control and agility are all high and his Rebound control and reaction time are very good. His skating is above average for his class, but the Hybrid American goalie is looking more and more like a great pick in round 2. Considering Texas took their current #1 in the 3rd round. Despite the Numbers in 12 games, his scouting sheet says he is poised to be a lot better in the coming seasons and once in Texas, maybe set some records.

Overall Texas prospect pool is not void any longer. Considering 2 picks after the 2nd round are developing nicely, with the added picks this coming draft, This teams future is looking great.
