Texas Renegades preseason prospect breakdown
#1

SMJHL Pre Season is Under way and 25 games in we take a look at the TEXAS RENEGADES prospect pool and how they are doing in this pre season.

We Begin in ANAHEIM where the OUTLAWS are finally living life after Tibuk. The new Starter in ANAHEIM is RENEGADE prospect Patrick Niederreiter. In 25 pre season games, The most he has seen so far, he has gone 10 - 14 -1 with a 0.885 Save percentage and a 3.10 goals against average. Given that there are 7 rookies on the team and he is getting used to his #1 role, Niederreiter is performing rather well over all.

Next up is ANCHORAGE. The ARMADA have one of the newest RENEGADE prospects in Centerman Jake Primeau. 26 games in and he has a solid start with 7 goals and 9 assists for 16 points. In his second season with ANCHORAGE he is already sowing that he has begun to develop. A TEXAS prospect that many consider to be a steal in the last draft, this season will show just how well he is developing. This being preseason many don’t give it much value but you can always see of a prospect is improving, even in pre season.

DETROIT has a TEXAS prospect that was acquired in a trade with Buffalo. Josh Driver has 12 points in 25 games. 8 goals and 4 assists. Averaging about 14 minutes a game, Driver may be needing more ice time to feel comfortable after this past offseason. We know he is approaching a call up in the next season or so and we will be watching to see how he continues to develop knowing that the call to the SHL may not be that far away.

The HALIFAX RAIDERS host a number of TEXAS prospects. We begin with Josef Kubinec. After 25 pre season games he sits second on the team in points with 23. 12 goals and 11 assists he is an important part of the offense and the power play with 9 power play points so far. He is second on the team in goals as well as CODY has 14, 2 more than Kubinec. We know that this looks very well to be his last season in the J and it’ll be interesting to see how he uses his final season to his advantage.

Also in HALIFAX is Haley Knight. The young Defense woman is 3rd on the team in Points with 23. A steady point producing D, she has been developing steady as an offensive Defensman. 18 hits in 25 games may not look like much but she plays her part well. She may not see SHL action next season but she is developing well and hopefully becomes an important piece in the future.

Lastly HALIFAX has new TEXAS prospect Ricky Spanish. The 5th overall pick in the last draft, Spanish has 14 points in 25 games and is looking to find his comfort zone more and more with each passing game. 3 goals and 11 assists, he is averaging about 17 minutes a game. 6 power play points so far, he is developing into a solid forward.

Next up, from the LETHBRIDGE LIONS is Cal Clucker, this past seasons 35th overall pick. 25 games has him averaging about 20 minutes a game and looking great. 12 points so far, he is a -4 which is great considering he is entering his second season in LETHBRIDGE. Another player who will not be called up next season but is developing into a very solid D man.

Last seasons 1st round pick for TEXAS plays for the MONTREAL MILITIA. Padraig Sarantez leads his team in points with 22. His 2 goals and 20 assists shows off his passing and Vision. His average ice time is 20 minutes a game. Defensivly his +17 speaks loudly about his game as the TEXAS prospect is developing into a solid top 2/4 player at the moment.

Finally, last seasons 2nd overall pick, from the ST.LOUIS SCARECROWS, Noah Brusky. The highly sought after D man was chosen by TEXAS at the #2 spot and 25 games into the preseason is showing signs of development. While he has 2 goals and 13 assists for 15 points. Brusky is only a -5 on a team with 10 rookies. That is a lot of mistakes to have to cover. Averaging 21 minutes a game he is a clear leader on the Scarecrows roster and overall a very solid developing player.
