S54 WFT #4 - Playoff Race

New England has just been cursed ever since I joined, I think I may be the cursed one not the team. 5 points behind with little time left, it is likely Manhattan makes it and we miss the playoffs once again. I really wish it were not so; this contradicts everything that was ever test simmed and all the hope we built up last year. Unless the Rage have a total collapse there just is no way, it is too little too late and the only consolation would be if we somehow won the draft lottery. We need to let in less goals and we just can’t do that, winning games requires a well-oiled machine on all sides and in all aspects. There is no room for lazy play or weak spots in such a highly competitive division, where you have five teams that could feasibly make the playoffs. New England perhaps got into the mindset of feeling entitled to the playoffs and that lands you on the sidelines every time. Cap that off with a very poor and disappointing season from Ola Wagstrom (me) who went from scoring 40 goals to barely having a point per game, it really is a major step back and without that kind of scoring from the star, it sets back the offense quite a bit too. New England needed more from its captain and if they want to correct this dreadful nightmare of a season where everything went wrong despite their best efforts and moves to try to improve their weaknesses, they’ll need Wagstrom to get back to an elite playing level and start contributing more. Ultimately, this season is gone though and looking at next season is all they can do. It is a depressing end to a lackluster, pitiful, pathetic, underwhelming season. New England should be ashamed with the knowledge they are so far behind, knowing that Manhattan has such a lead, that they are due to miss the playoffs for the fourth time in five years. All the roster power and predictions in the world have not helped them to secure consistent postseason success, and something has got to give. In spite of how good they are on paper, this is over; New England has dug too much of a hole to catch up to Manhattan. The final lap is almost over, and now is far too close to the finish line to be playing catch-up and living on a prayer.

I think Tampa doesn't get a single point, even though the odds should be in their favor. The roster there is just gutted, and its no surprise to me that they haven't managed to even take a team to overtime yet.

I think New Orleans will win the race for the #1 seed in the west down the stretch. It will be close with LA and EDM, but I think NOLA having so many home games left will make a difference for them. Also they have a couple games at hand over edmonton and while I think it will be a close finish with LA, I think NOLA will finish 1-2 points ahead in the end.

Race to get a single point:
Barracuda Tampa Bay Barracuda - 0 points, 10 games remaining Barracuda

Really, if the Barracuda don't manage to get a single point in the season I'd wonder why they are even part of the league. We always talk about parity and how GMs should work toward the better of the team and this is the extreme opposite. I say if they don't win anything, we might almost consider them to take part of the expansion draft too cause it might be the only thing that save

You ever watch a car accident or see one? One that you can't look away from. Like watching the bridge 11 foot 8, you know people are going to be dumb and just go for it, ultimately risking it all for no reward? That's how I feel watching Tampa. I feel so sorry for that team, I want them to get a point just so that they can go into the offseason with some kind of morale boost.

I hope the Barracuda get a single point, there losing has be incredible to watch in the most negative way. Maybe if they play a playoff team in a trash game, they will throw it for them, although if that backfires and TBB loses even then, well... wow.

I hope tampa bay gets a point. Its ridiculous that they are tanking that hard, especially when there were options that could have allowed them to be a couple wins team, like Toronto was last season

Here in S54, we've got our eyes on a few hot playoff races that look like they'll be coming down to the wire. For this WFT, pick one (or more) of the following races to be wrapped up over the next week or so and let us know who you think will win that race to grab the spot and why.

Race for the #1 seed, Eastern Conference:

I think that the Buffalo Stampede will edge out the race for the first overall seed in the Eastern Conference division over the Hamilton Steelhawks. Looking at the Buffalo's schedule for the rest of the season, I really don't see them dropping enough points for Hamilton to make up those points and pass them.

It pains me to vote against the Blizzard, but with only 9 games remaining compared to the rest who have around 12, it's unlikely the Blizzard will finish with the top seed. Instead I'm going to go with the safe pick and select the New Orleans Specters who currently hold a 1 point lead with 12 games to go (3 in hand). Out east I'm going to keep it safe and select Buffalo. They're on another level right now and it shows. Lastly I don't think Tampa will get a single point this season. Something I never thought I'd see, but it's good for my casino bet haha.

Thanks for the sig ragnar!

I believe that Texas will make the playoffs this season. Nobody thought that they ever could get near to the playoffs. Would be a huge story and in the playoffs everything is possible.

LAP is going to the playoffs, saying anything else would just be weird. Out of the teams fighting for a spot in the West, LAP has had the hardest schedule so far. Therefore we have the easiest to go, and we arent slowing down.

I think the barracudas will eke out a point before the end of the season. they only need to get into OT once and i think sheer probability would dictate that happening once over the course of a season, regardless of how bad the team is.

I'm gonna beat the dead horse here, the Tampa Bay Barracuda have to somehow win at least one game by the end. I don't think it's for the same reason as everyone else with odds, I think that some team is going to intentionally throw a game just to make sure the 0-50 never happens

I think the LA Panthers will win the western conference. They have an equally productive offense as New Orleans but have performed better defensively over the season with fewer goals scored against.

In the West, I am not surprised how tight the race is. My expectation is that NOLA will manage to take 1st place, and EDM will win the other division and make it in. For the other 2 spots, I really hope TEX gets in because I feel they were the most improved team in the league and made a lot of good moves to become much stronger. I think LAP should be the other team to get in, leaving CGY and SFP on the outside.
