Written Task:  So where do you live while the season is actually going on? In a condo near the arena? Is your current team the place you've been for a long time? Do you have a permanent home there? Either way, what does it look like? What kind of living situation does your player prefer and why? If they've been traded or signed to a new team or moved from the SMJHL to the SHL at any point, talk about what the move was like! How did they go about choosing a new place to live?

Well Dusty Wilson obviously had to pack his bags and move to kelowna. Really he was paying for a hotel at first as he couldn't find any apartments that would have him close enough to the arena. Eventually after his rookie season an apartment was able to be opened up and the team even came and helped him renovate and decorate It. Kelowna gave him everything he needed to feel like he was at home. Kelowna even made sure that the money he was earning was enough to cover rent and more. So yeah now he's still living In that apartment, I would say It's about maybe 3 blocks away from the arena as Dusty never bought a car or nothing so he walks there as he knows, one day a call up Is going to happen and he'd rather wait to buy anything like a car yet. Overall he sticks to his apartment really as he doesn't know kelowna very well, but he loves the fans that show their support. (171 words)

Paul Binder actually loves his city simulation games, so this is right up his alley. Firstly, he would focus on expanding the arena grounds to make every single match day seem like a festival. Themed restaurants, rides, carnivals, and more. For food we would have your standard burger joints, but introducing new this season, "Micool's Thrilled Grilled Cheese" ! Here you can order from an assortment of fancy grilled cheese sandwiches, including the fabled 35 slice American. Outside of the arena grounds and more towards the city, we would section off a large park for leisurely activity. Walking grounds, ponds, lots of trees to keep out of that hot Atlanta sun, and in the middle of it there would be a large otter rescue, fully sponsored by the team. While this has absolutely nothing to do with hockey, Binder would also pay in full, no matter what the cost, some actual reliable public transportation. Driving around Atlanta is a pain in the absolute ass and every major city deserves a subway or train system that is cheap (or fuck it, free why not) and reliable to get people where they need to go no matter where they are in the city.

Around Northern Lights Arena, we have a fantastic compound for fans to have a fantastic game night experience. The arena is built right into the downtown area, and we have a variety of eateries and bars outside of the arena. One bar, Borealis, has bowling lanes, axe throwing, and a small four-screen movie theatre. There’s a Ticketmaster office, so fans who prefer a physical ticket souvenir can stop by to grab a paper copy of their tickets. In addition, we’ve got a transit stop here, so fans from the regional area can be brought right to where the action occurs, and it isn’t hard for them to arrive at the arena. On the upper floors of those buildings are luxury condominiums and apartments, so players and die-hard fans can live right near where the action takes place. A cool feature of Northern Lights Arena is that there’s a glass paneled roof with a retractable shade, so at night the roof retracts and fans in their homes can look down and see the hockey game being played through the roof-windows, and on those special nights, you can see the Aurora Borealis, high above the ice.

There are some things that you need in the surroundings of an arena. For one it is a parking lot, but let's not be too rational, that is just boring. Another thing you need is an area with bars and restaurants, to keep your visitors happy. Everyone wants to have a good time when you visit a hockey game, and this good time can be made better, when you have places to have a nice meal and have a few drinks or beers with it. Especially the drinking game possibilities should be on point, as this is a big part of sports games. At least for me, and as I am the one in charge, I am all in for that. What is also nice is, if your arena is within a park or something, but that collides a bit with the restaurants and bars in the surrounding, so let's cancel that. So all in all, it should be a district where you like to hang out and easily can have a good time with friends and fans before and after games.

Written Task: What kind of accommodations, attractions, restaurants, stores, homes, or parks do you want around your home arena? How would you design the perfect arena neighbourhood? Do you want it to be entirely leisure focused? Full of arcades and bars and carnival games? Or are you going to try something different? Maybe a large surrounding park? A nice quiet residential neighborhood that will send you noise complaints every time there's a game? There's no oversight here, make whatever your heart desires! (150+ words)

Aksel actually demanded to be on the planning committee for the new arena, because after 8 seasons with the Rage he has IDEAS. Their current rink is an absolute mess in terms of transportation - fans can park at several city lots in the area but they're all different rates and the downtown roads are an absolute mess on game nights. He wants to work with city transportation authorities to build at least 2 stations in the vicinity for light rail, where there's a park n ride within 5 stops north and south for the out of city folk. He'd also like to have an arena with more to offer in the area - there's a nice tavern near the current one but that's about it. He has his eyes on a few areas that could accommodate a sports arena, either in existing structures or vacant lots. In all of those areas there are existing venues that could give fans respite before and after games and events.

How to redesign Philly in 2023. So, for whatever dumb reason, the powers that be are relying on long time Philly Forge forward Igor Victory to come in and redesign a new downtown area that surrounds the arena. This is pretty dumb, right? The amount of history that comes with architecture and design in Philly. Philly has pretty much been the same for a long time, and for good reasons. Reading Terminal, The Liberty Bell, Betsy Ross House, Independence Hall, Congress Hall, Elfreth's Alley, Eastern State Penitentiary, Franklin Square. The list goes on and on and on and on and on and on and on of all these fantastic places in and around Philly. So, how do we redesign the arena area to accommodate all this United States history, but also the rich history of Philly sports. Well, starters, there's now Rocky stairs everywhere to get to the Arena. When you get to the top, you get a choice of Cheese Steak, Scrapple, or Barbacoa. That's it, those are your three food choices. Then, every one has to skate inside to the arena. That's is. That's all Igor would do to revamp the downtown area. Rocky Stairs, food and skating. Adrian!

Being the rookie season for Meta Knight in the SHL, there was a big move over the offseason, both in terms of effort to grow as well as to find a (hopefully) nice play to live during the season. Moving from a generally pleasurable and beautiful life in Vancouver, playing for the whalers, to the twin cities in Minnesota is a little bit of a culture shock as well as a weather shock at times. A little bit colder, a little bit better pay, not too bad even if you lose the coast, and some mountains. As the Monarchs play and practice in downtown St. Paul, it made sense to try to find a temporary living space in the core, even if it was a little pricey. Some of the team's admin helped find a place with all the usual important amenities nearby and in a nice neighborhood with restaurants and the like nearby, all just a short walk/drive to the rink or practice facility. A temporary space is perfect for a rookie, just renting while you get to know the city and look around for a more permanent home.
When i first joined the league, i was dirt poor. I'm a panther at heart so i just lived in the forest really, sleeping on a branch in a tree or something. However once i got drafted to Newfoundland that wasn't really an option anymore, seeing how damn cold it is here all the time. The first couple of months i had a hotel room paid for by the team to give me some time to find my own place. I decided on a small cottage out in the woods, to take me back to my roots that is. I can still run around freely in the woods and hunt whatever animal i can find for food. The cottage isn't fancy but it's enough for someone like me. I got drafted to Buffalo and i can't wait to find a remote house there as well, where i can hunt those famous buffalos i've heard so much about! That will definitely be both fun and rewarding, getting the chance to eat such big animals raw, they'll go straight into my muscles.
Written task:

First off the bat we need to figure out what kind of area we want the home rink in. As a member of the city planning office and the team I am going to be attempting to straddle both of these lines for the task. We want the games to draw attention and have people spending money, so this rink needs to be in the middle of an entertainment district. Something with already built mass transport in place. I know how these city government folk work now, because I’m in their office, and you can’t trust their promises.
Around the arena we need all sorts of sports bars, maybe some where people can go there to watch the game instead of at the arena. Arcade is a really cool idea as well, let people have some good old coin operated fun in the same area. Most importantly we need free parking to use the transit. Free destination getting to and leaving the venue (free means people will be willing to come), and decently priced hotel availability so if people have a bit too much they have a fall back option.

Player Prompt

Jimmy Wagner lives in downtown Seattle, close enough to the arena to walk. His large apartment that he live is with his wife Kate is classically furnished and looks out upon Elliot Bay. It feels like home after just a few seasons living there and it offers many chances have guests over from the various visiting teams - one of the Wagners favorite ways to spend the weekend nights during the season. Seattle has been a much better city to live in than Los Angeles given the traffic and pollution, where Jimmy had to either commit to the helicopter or spend an excruciating amount of time in the car. Now, despite being a star, he is able to walk there far more easily, something that kept him in Seattle when his recent contract was up. Many of the teams that came calling were from massive metro areas that didn't facilitate that lifestyle.

CREATIVE PROMPT - (234 words)

Patricija has a total disdain for big box and national chain stores, preferring much more to shop at local places with business owners that she recognizes and can speak to. Now recently joining the city planning office, Patricija's first order of business would be to re-zone the area around the arena, banning national chains from building stores over a certain size. After doing this, she would use some of that grant money to offer an incentive for small business owners to move locations closer to the lucrative arena. The idea would be to create a "home away from home" for Patricija and the other citizens of the neighborhood, turning the ground next to the arena into something with a small town feeling that has a variety of local options for residents. Instead of grabbing a burger at McDonalds, a few local restaurants would split the load instead. Patricija would personally sign jerseys and distribute them to the hobby and fan stores to help spur growth in those areas as well. Finally, it would be imperative to add a significant park near the arena to beautify the area and add some nature back into the city. All of these changes would help shift the perception of the neighborhood around the arena to being more than just a quick stop before or after the game, and into a true place where someone can spend leisurely time.
So Redd spends his few months away visiting old friends and relatives from other states, maybe once or twice he'll get a hotel room outside of where hes staying for a party or a road trip to a beach...He is a frugal guy. In August, he heads back to his studio apartment in quebec city within a couple miles of the facilities. Fall is really beautiful in Quebec and he loves to gp for hikes so he takes his advantages to stay in shape and condition for the upcoming season. He pretty much treats it like a bachelor pad during the season. You wont find many paintings and posters on the walls, but he loves to show off a lot of the lego sets hes built. Two of his sets, a ship in a bottle, and Disney's Steamboat Willie are front in center in the living room inside of well lit cases. He's got all of his other favorite essentials that remind him of other places, and one day he'll be taking something that screams Quebec to him. It'll be far too soon before he says goodbye to Quebec, just when he felt like this was a place that he could settle down in.
