(1575 words, ready for grading)

Coming up on season 50 here and the Mustangs roster is largely unchanged. We'll check up on the team members and see how their seasons went as well as look at possible lines for the tournament.

The Goodbyes

Hunter Jones Dragons is a big loss for this squad. Putting up an incredible 42 pts in s49, he calls it quits right in the peak of his career. Better to be remembered for the good stuff I suppose, great career for Jones in Calgary. @Thunder39

Nico Gross Shl had retired previous to the last roster announcement, and now we will give his spot to another player. @Brandon

The Additions

Two spots have opened up and since we aren't merging teams, we'll have to use players that didn't make it the first time around, and for a reason.

Sam McGrizzley Chiefs averaged 38 seconds of ice time in s49. Let's hope they can step up their game here. @Sam McGrizzley

Jill Jellybeanov Stars was a -13 last season. They have to step it up to keep up with the best of the best in this tournament. @JigglyPuff

Familiar Faces

Hercules Rockefeller Blizzard was INSTRUMENTAL in the Blizzard winning their second cup in 5 seasons. He put the team on his back in the finals and was 100% the MVP of the series. A great leader and a great fit for this squad. @Leafs4ever

Logan Jensen Renegades is still putting up good numbers as Texas continues to head down the path of a rebuild. Some great linemates in this tourney will show if he can still produce or if he's reaching that age where the game outpaces him. @Loganjj21

Joshua Woodcroft Platoon is still a huge part of the Platoon forward core and will be an even bigger part moving forward with the loss of Light and Forsberg. He can put up great numbers and will be a big part of the Mustang offense in this tourney. @Glyc

Kevin Hamilton syndicate was the leading scorer for the Syndicate last season and a true locker room leader. More of a quiet presence in the league, he lets his numbers speak for themselves and he works night in and night out to be a top player in the league. @kckolbe

Dermot Lavelle Stampede is still killing it for Buffalo, and a consistent 40 pt scorer is something you covet in this league. He will be a staple of the offense of this team and I have a feeling most of the points scored will have something to do with his crisp passes. @White Cornerback

Bobby Watson Chiefs continues to be a superstar for the Chiefs. A natural goal scorer, he is a threat to put the bisky in the basket whenever he steps on the ice. Downright filthy. @Bobby Watson

Gabriel Wong Platoon has lost a step or two in the past few seasons but is still a terrific offensive player that any team would be happy to have. A locker room leader and great mentor, Wong will have big shoes to fill as the Platoon move towards a younger core. @Wongy

TJ Bayley syndicate being shipped after a relatively disappointing s49, they still got a ring and that's all that matters in the end. They will look to show they've still got offensive prowess in this tournament. @"panda"

Artemi Berezin Chiefs is a dynamic offensive player and a skilled playmaker. His point totals going up in the past few seasons, Berezin will look to set up his linemates and slice and dice through the opposing defense. @drodger91

Lyndis Vakarian Stars had an astounding s49 scoring 56 pts. Proving they are still a star in the league and very much in the prime of their career, Vakarian benefited from playing on a line with one of the best scorers in the game. Let's see if they can keep up the pace with some new linemates. @Cynthia

Sven Brokstad Blizzard is showing some signs of aging but was still an important member of the Blizzard D-corps that won themselves a cup. Do they have what it takes to keep the championship train rolling? @Bzerkap

The Dude Renegades is still a name synonymous with "Offensive defenseman", and while his smell is offensive, his skillset is even more so. He makes fools of his opponents and racks up points night after night with his great playmaking ability and silky-smooth skating. @Dude

Maurice Picard Panthers is still a respectable defenseman on a Panthers squad that has struggled to keep up in their division as of late. Here is a chance to show plus/minus is not everything and work together with their teammates to have some great stats in this tournament. @academydropout

Beaujeaux Biscuit Platoon is a champion among champions. The Platoon have felt comfortable for the past decade knowing they can play their game and have a great goalie behind them who can always bail them out when it is needed. He still has a lot left in the tank and is hungry for more championships. @.bojo

Jay Bae Shl has been out of an SHL job for quite a bit now, but still can be a serviceable backup for the Mustangs here. @Jaymay

Alternate Captain 2
Jack Tanner pride is a fantastic offensive defenseman and was second on his team in points in s49. He is working very hard to mentor a Pride squad that is finally putting it together and looking to make some noise in the postseason. I'd expect a Wolfpack-esque run in the near future. @Beaver

Alternate Captain 1
Tatu Makela Stampede plays on of the most complete 2-way games you'll see from a defenseman in this league. Leading his team to their second cup in 3 seasons, Makela knows what it takes to win, and makes sure it gets done. The Stampede are poised to make cup runs and long as Makela is still kicking it on this team. @WannabeFinn

Captain
Tor Tuck Blizzard added some more hardware to his trophy case in s49, and is insanely talented both offensively and defensively. The defensive talent in the S37 and S38 drafts is astounding, and Tuck is the cream of the crop. Look to him to lead this squad to victory against all the other very gifted teams in this tournament. @ErM

Line Speculation-
Line 1
Rockefeller-Lavelle-Watson

A scary 1st line to play against, these guys will find ways to score on you no matter the situation. Rockefeller and Watson are both goalscorers, and with Lavelle in between them you never know who he will set up for the easy tap-in.

Line 2
Hamilton-Berezin-Wong

A strong 2nd line, there is some first line talent that's been pushed down due to depth. We will have to see who decides to step up and be the scorer on this line but whoever it is will have some great set-up men beside them.

Line 3
Bayley-McGrizzley-Woodcroft

The third line is where you start to see weakness. Woodcroft has his work cut out for his as he will have to make his linemates better. Will he choose to be the scorer or set up man? Or will he have to take on more of a defensive role? We will see how he plays it this tourney.

Line 4
Vakarian-Jellybeanov-Jensen

Some North Stars chemistry here, this fourth line really isn't bad at all. Jellybeanov is a plug but as long as one of Vakarian or Jensen steps up and scores some goals I could see this line wreaking havoc on other lines in this tournament.

Defense Pairing 1
Tuck-Makela

A hard pairing to play against, these defensmen can do it all on the ice. Tuck is more than capable of joining the rush and Makela is more than capable of covering for him when he does so. Look out for these two when they step on the ice, it'll be hard to miss them.

Defense Pairing 2
Dude-Tanner

Another difficult pairing to play, this team just throws offense at you from all angles. Both of these players are scoring machines, though we will have to make sure they remember their positions and get back to cover for defense if they need to. As long as they aren't in their own end much, this pairing is deadly.

Defense Pairing 3
Picard-Brokstad

This might be another weakness on the squad, but hopefully these two can gel and provide solid defense when needed while the studs rest on the bench. Only time will tell.

Starter
Beaujeaux Biscuit
Backup
Jay Bae

Biscuit will be starting all the games so he will have to be at the top of his game, especially with the offensively minded D-corps that this team possesses. I have no doubt he is up to the task.
