The S81 SMJHL Playoffs are over and now it is time for Postseason Bonanza!
Wait! What's this? Here's how PB will work: there are several tasks, each of which is worth varying amounts of TPE for putting in a little effort, for a maximum of 16 possible TPE total. You can mix and match, complete them in any order and do as few or as many as you would like (up to 16 TPE). Recreates, you will find this slightly different than CW. Here's how TPE will be earned: For every 50 words you write about a prompt, you will earn 1 TPE. That scales on, so 100 words for 2 TPE, 150 words for 3 TPE, etc. If you wanted to 800 words about one prompt, that would be 16 TPE right then and there. The graphics TPE scale has remained the same. IMPORTANT NOTE: Please, after every prompt you write about add a Word Count (ie. 150 words). This will greatly help the PT Team! ONLY S81 SMJHL ROOKIES (S82 Players) CAN EARN TPE for Postseason Bonanza TASKS. If you signed after the trade deadline and are going into the S82 SMJHL Draft, this task is not for you. You may claim affiliation from an (one, 1) ISFL, PBE or SSL PT this season for a max of 3 TPE. Deadline: Sunday, April 13th at 11:59PM PST Without further ado, here are our prompts! 2. Looking Towards The Future
Honestly, I think Thunder Bay is in a pretty good spot coming into next season. Last season's draft ended up quite good for us, though I do acknowledge how egotistical saying that is when I was one of the players picked up in that draft, but it's true. Defensively, we're quite well set, with a top pairing of 425s and a second pairing of 350s, so a couple young guns could be good just to round out the lineup there. We're fully set in goal as well, with a capped goalie and a solidly earning backup. Our main focus is going to need to be on offense, as we're losing 4 forwards to ageing out. The forwards we picked up last draft have been earning well, so if we get another good group this season we could be on track to be a real contender - maybe not quite next season, though we could absolutely make it further in the playoffs, but in season 83. 164 words 6. Team History The history of the Walleye is not exactly one that is laden with success and trophies, but it is one that I know somewhat well, seeing as I have ended up on this team for the third time now. This team was founded exactly 20 seasons ago, at the start of S61, but in a very different part of Canada, taking to the ice in one of the largest cities in the Prairies under the banner of the Regina Elk. This is the team where my previous two players, Adrians and Teodors Skalbergs, spent their junior hockey careers. Unfortunately though, the Elk were not a team that saw much success in the post-season, to the point where they were seen as being cursed. Indeed, this curse was ultimately the reason for the team's relocation and rebranding, as management felt that the organisation needed a fresh start in order to help get the monkey off of their back and finally become a successful team. In season 78, the Elk would move over a thousand kilometers and two provinces towards the east to Thunder Bay, as well as changing their mascot and name to be more fitting of their new home city, officially becoming the Walleye. The team's old colour scheme of purple and gold stuck around though, presumably as an homage to the team's old branding, showing that the Walleye still carry the spirit of the Elk within them. The team's only been in Thunder Bay for a couple of seasons, so we have not yet had a chance to see if the curse has stuck with them after the relocation or not - but with the team building up its roster to make a run at the Four Star Cup within the coming few seasons, I think we will find out sooner rather than later. 304 words 7. Winner Winner Chicken So, the playoffs just finished up, and we've got a champion - the Carolina Kraken. Almost 30 seasons since their last championship, they've finally added another one to their trophy cabinet. As for what made them the strongest team in these playoffs? I mean, it's pretty clear. It's the plot armor. Think about it. Their long-time GM, who was on the team as a player the last time they won the cup, and has been running the team for many, many years without a championship of his own to show for it, is about to leave the team to start an SHL expansion franchise. It would've been a bit of a tragic end to the story for him to leave without getting to hoist the cup with the Kraken one more time, wouldn't it? The hockey gods were never going to let that happen, the storyline was just too perfect to pass up. It's the fairytale ending. 156 words 15. Charity Drive Seeing as our team has the whole fish theme going for it, the Walleye decided to organise a charity fishing event for locals in Thunder Bay. Anyone who wanted to could show up, be given some Walleye-branded fishing gear for free, and fish to their hearts content - and all of the fish caught by the participants, including the Walleye players, would then be cooked up and served to the local homeless population, entirely free of charge. The players helped both with the fishing and with the cooking of the fish, and they also did other standard activities such as signing autographs and even playing some street hockey with the kids at the event. 113 words 18. 1. Fan Appreciation Day
A foam hand is an all time classic fan item to have, and a team like the Great Falls Grizzlies is just calling out for an awesome bear paw shaped foam hand to take home and throw on a shelf and marvel at as one of your favorite pieces of team merchandise. With the claws making room for the fingers for easy waving, the big paws would be brought out for a game against the Thunder Bay Walleye to really sell that gimmick of a bear pawing a big fish out of a stream for a nice meal to create a home court advantage and a night to remember for many fans. 112 words 2. Looking Towards The Future Season 63. That is how long ago the Great Falls Grizzlies were a team that escaped the 2nd round of the SMJHL playoffs. A season that is a distant memory where the team went all the way to the finals and lost 4-1, a team that none of the young players of the current roster were around for or could remember. Every player has gained more valuable experience as they did not lose key players in the offseason, and with the addition of some fresh faces the Great Falls Grizzlies are looking to fly up the league table this season after a last place finish, and change opinions of the team. If things get crazy down the stretch the Grizzlies could be looking behind them and realizing they have reached the other side of just the first round of the playoffs in 4 seasons, and hoping to potentially repeat some magic from their last deep run. 156 words 12. On The Radar Tyler Bodega, a 6 foot 2 inch American goaltender that is currently backing up for the Great Falls Grizzlies, and has cracked the USA blue roster for international play. A well rounded goaltended with good reflexes but seems to lack the ability to handle the puck for the life of him. Typically just tries to keep the puck close on the rebound and fall on it, lacks agility and gets frustrated very easily. Often found yelling at himself, running through a few different sticks in a game, slamming the door on his way out after getting pulled.. With his reactions, Bodega can even realize he isn't making a save and can begin to get upset about it before players and fans will begin to process the goal, making for interesting viewing as a frustrated goaltender tries his best to keep it together and keep playing after giving up a goal or two. Could work on his fitness and mental to round out his play even further, but you don't need the ability to mentally recover from giving up a goal if you never give up a goal in the first place. So is it really a weakness of his that he gets frustrated, or will it lead to a strength that makes him never be scored on again to prevent this frustration? Perhaps only time will tell. 227 words 13. Superstitious Most goaltenders and netminders of many sports believe in a superstition that their goal is sacred and that nothing is to be left inside of the goal. Not debris, a drink, and especially not the puck. Tyler Bodega, however, has a different idea. Where most goaltenders will put their bottle of water on a holder outside of the net, leading to the potential of the puck striking the bottle through the netting and sending it flying, Tyler Bodega will deny a potential goal scorer (which ideally, there will never be another one of them again) the satisfaction of sending his bottle away by keeping it in a holder attached to the top post inside of the net as to not interfere with the legal playing area. Tyler Bodega actually quite hates how inconvenient it is to grab his bottle of water with the way that it is positioned, but the fact that his water is safe from being launched away in a moment of intense frustration (which entry 12 explains he has a lot of) will help him just a little bit more when every bit helps this spiteful and vengeful creature. As a second superstition, many goaltenders will try to stick to a single set of pads for the course of the season, or it may bring you bad luck and a lack of success as you do not break in and get settled to your pads. but Tyler Bodega also does not believe in this and picks himself up a home and away custom goaltender pad setup mask and stick included. Look good play good he says, but play good he has yet to do so much.. Maybe there is truth to it. But Tyler Bodega's most important and least often talked about superstition is one involving him and the other netminder of the Great Falls Grizzlies, Matti Brynjarsson. After about 20 games had passed during the season, the two goaltenders were frustrated on what to do to try and turn their luck around. They had started so well with a positive goal difference but things had started to slip away. That's when while getting iPad time on the bench, scrolling instagram reels, Tyler Bodega saw a video of two goaltenders kissing pregame to confuse and get a laugh out of the commentator on the broadcast. The lightbulb sparked bright for Bodega, and Brynjarsson hardly had a chance to realize what Bodega was talking about before he had already been kissed, and Matti was being told to get in the net because faceoff had already been delayed for long enough. Matti Brynjarsson wanted to come back mad, but after a period of basically standing on his head and keeping the Grizzlies in it single handedly, he was convinced they had to do it every game too. Now they just have to convince their girlfriends that it's for good luck only and then everything will smooth over from there.. 490 words 14. R&R Tyler Bodega learned a lot this season and spent most of his time absorbing information. So Tyler went home back to Buffalo as soon as the season ended to be with his family and to touch base with all of his loved ones and friends who congratulated him on a rookie season. He signed lots of autographs for people he knew and studied a lot of his film as he has been very inspired to be a better netminder. He hopes to also come back with a better more refined signature that takes a lot less effort so that if he continues to improve and become a more popular goaltender he can sign autographs without a lot of wrist pain. Wrist pain sucks as a goalie. 126 words ![]() Registered Member
2. Looking Towards the Future
The S81 is already behind us which means the SMJHL draft will be happening soon. Going into next season, what are your team's biggest needs and areas of strength? Do any holes need to be filled with call-ups? Do you have a position that is incredibly stacked? Give us all an overview of your team, from top to bottom. Heading into next season the Anchorage Armada need to do a big rebuild of their defense. Losing 4 defensive players to call ups will absolutely hurt the defense of the Armada. Especially when one of those defenders was SMJHL career blocks holder Dieter Frustuck. Fruhstuck came in with Javelin Bodine and they have both aged out and look to be huge assets to the SHL teams. The Anchorage Armada will go in the the S82 Simulation Major Junior Hockey League draft looking to rebuild the entire back end. They do have 2 defenders on their roster in Send Noodlez and Aloysius Hoglord III (baby come back to active). The season 81 draft saw the Anchorage Armada take Meredydd Meyrick who was a Left Defender before he randomly retired in the middle of the season. That same draft saw the Armada load up on their offense picking up Mathew Pano, Mike Moodano, Patrick Rail, TBK and Luke Toussaint. The offensive side will have to carry the Armada this season while the new defenders get their legs. Goalie wise the Armada will be looking to be locked down in net by S81 pick Jonny Hockey. He had shown some of last season that he would be able to handle the reigns in net and they will most likely keep looking to him for that. The Anchorage Armada do look set in the wings being led by Patrick Rail (capped at 350 TPE), Jay Dub (312) and Matthew Pano (254 before season training). 250 words - 5 TPE 11. A 6 Star Show Make a dream team of players from any team in the playoffs, with 3 forwards, 2 defenseman and a goalie, and give an explanation for each pick. It could be the best team ever, or alternative maybe the worst? If I was going to make a dream team or J players I would do the following: Left Wing- Patrick Rail Center- Yoshinobu Ishii Right Wing- Toivo Jokinen Left Defense- Gappy Hilmore Right Defense- Oskar Svenguard Goalie- Jonny Hockey This team is strictly made up of Season 82 draft players. I picked these players best on what I think will be a great all around team. On the defensive side you have a great pair of Gappy and Oskar. Gappy is a great all around defensive man. He can go from offense to defense very seamlessly. Oskar is a defender defenseman. Oskar will be the defensive lockdown player. Oskar will give the confidence to Toivo and Patrick to focus on offense because they know the defense zone is protected. So defensively I feel this team would be a great overall team. In net we would have Jonny Hockey who last season led the rookies in save percentage. He looks to keep building upon on those stats. Jonny would lock down the net and would feel extra confident with Oskar and Gappy in front of him blocking shots from getting through. The forwards of this group would be anchored by Yoshi Ishii. Yoshi is your prototypical two way center. He will be a menace in the faceoff dot as he had a 53% faceoff stat during his rookie year in the J. Toivo Jokinen would be bringing up the right side of the ice. This player is a great offensive player. He finished his rookie year with the St. Louis Scarecrows with 35 points. 20 goals for his rookie season is great numbers and he would be able to be fed by Yoshi as well so that might increase his goal scoring output. Patrick Rail would be taking care of the left side. He finished top 10 in rookie goal scoring, points and led the league in hits. His offensive production would make this team a nightmare to play against. The second reason I put this team together is I think the locker room would be amazing. You have my best friends in Yoshi and Oskar. You have my two friends I have made in the league this year in Toivo Jokinen and Jonny Hockey. Then we would swarm Gappy Hilmore with so much love he would have no other choice but to be great friends with us. I think over time this locker room would rival the best in the SHL and we would have people knocking over walls to get into it. Overall this would be my dream team. I would love to have a chance down the line to play with any of these players and I am lucky because I already play on the same team as Jonny Hockey. 462 words - 9 TPE 18. Milestones You will have the opportunity to cover up to 3/16 TPE with milestones relating to your player's performance/accolades during the season. 1. Fan Appreciation Day
With Fan Appreciation day around the corner for the Whalers faithful, it seems pretty straight forward on what the Whalers will be doing for this very special day. I think first and foremost, plenty of games and activities for fans and family alike to enjoy and have a good day at the arena. I think the organization would most definitely looks to have some wildlife folks out, specifically those focused on whale habitat preservations and whale preservation as a whole. The BIG ticket item though, is a fully customizable stuffed pet whale. Kind of like build-a-bear, but it's a whale! You can dress them up in a Whalers jersey (with your favorite player), other hockey accessories, or maybe just a plain whale if that's your style! Either way, I'm sure a stuffed pet Blahaj is going to be the take of fan day, and exactly something that is going to get people jazzed after such a successful S81 for the Whalers! 161 words - 3 TPE 2. Looking Towards the Future VAN is in a super interesting place roster wise. The current core and bulk of the team is in place, and there's depth throughout the lineup. Same goes for Goalie, have a starter with an absurd amount of TPE and an active backup, there's not much more I think the team needs in terms of getting ready to go all in. There are currently 3 Centers over 350 TPE, 3 LWs over 350 TPE, 2 RWs over 350 TPE, and 3 Defenseman all over 250. Plus, both goalies are well over 350 TPE as well. Again, the bulk of the team that is going to be competing is there. However, I think VAN would be remiss to go into next season without looking to add to their D core. Having 3 D over 350 and 1 more just over 250 is a great start, but it comes at the cost of needing to play Forwards out of position as D-men. Truthfully, it worked out well for the Whalers and allowed for their offense to shine when it was needed, but with the getting a slightly older, right now makes sense to pull the trigger on bringing in some youth to help fill out the bottom 6 and add some true defenseman. Additionally, I don't believe that VAN is going to be hit with any callups either, so the bulk of the team should be around for another season. VAN really is primed to make a good run for the Cup next season, and have stacked the chips in a way that should give them an optimal path forward both through the offseason and the next full season. 277 words - 5 TPE 12. On the Radar Write a pre-draft scout report on your player from the perspective of a journalist covering the prospects of the S82 SHL draft class. What do possible SHL suitors have to be excited (or perhaps wary?) about when it comes to potentially drafting your player? Scouting Report for Thomas Passarelli - LW - Vancouver Whalers Passarelli shows a remarkable instinct for the puck, or rather the positioning of the puck. He has a keen awareness that allows to be involved on both the offensive and defensive ends of the ice. Whether that's a good or a bad thing is inconsistent at best, but the fact that he is so willingly engaged in all facts of the game bodes well for their growth. Even with his smaller frame, he plays up in size, most notable playing a defender, and excelling at a position he was not trained for. Exceptional off the puck speed, but needs work on handling when he has the puck on his stick. That should come in time though and there are flashes of talent when he is out on the ice. Also has shown flashes of maturity and leadership for their age, although, wondering how much of that comes from his past history as a football. Would imagine that that translates well to the ice, but may need the right environment to truly take advantage of that. Pros: Plays big Knows where to be Great off puck movement Cons: Gets lost in transition Tries to do to much Missing that extra gear 200 words - 4 TPE 16. Goals Although your career may still be in its early stages, it's still a great time to think about the future. What are some goals you have for your career, or some personal goals for the site? Are you striving for a HOF induction? Getting a site job? Absolutely striving for a Hall of Fame career. Obviously, a lot of luck and patience needed for that. But that's the plan! Also looking to try and hit 2K cause obviously, want that super cool trading card, because that's what we're really here for. Other than those *small* things, definitely want to try and win 1 championships! 57 words - 1 TPE 18. Milestones S81 Milestones - 3 TPE 3+5+4+1+3 = 16 TPE ![]() ![]() ![]() Registered Senior Member

4. Funtimes You have been designated as the team's official Fun Director! Now, everyone is looking for some sort of fun activity where you all can spend an afternoon or day to chill, hang out and build some team spirit. Especially after a long and stressful season, what are your plans to ensure everyone has a great time? This offseason, I'm super excited to be in charge of everyone having fun. People always think Godzilla is big and mean and scary, and that can be true, but down in my gigantic heart which is like as big as Manhattan Island, I'm mostly just a pretty fun and chill guy. Now obviously in Ottawa, we have a bunch of nerds. Literally all we do all day is sit around and read and talk about the books we read which, as fun as it is, is a little lame. It's time for this group to get up, get out, and get our party on. So that's what we're gonna do. A weekend bender for the boiz. We'll start on a Friday night with drinks and obviously karaoke. There's nothing that brings a group of people together like drunkenly singing along to "I would do anything for love.. [but i won't do that]" by Meatloaf or anything by Bon Jovi. After our crazy night out we're headed the air b&b we've booked for the weekend out on the lake. Everybody will pass out, but in the morning I'm up early cooking frenchie toast for the family. We've gotta get fed because we have a long day of cornhole, jetskiing, grilling, and chilling to take care of. In the afternoon we'll have a classic siesta, but then it's time to regroup and get ready for the big bonfire. Around the fire we're going to get real emotional, talking about last year's missed oppoortunities, opponents' illegal lines, and those we've lost to the SHL along the way. But then the discussion is going to turn to hopes and dreams. The things we're going to have to do to bring home the cup, the work we're gonna have to put in. The accountability. The leadership. The desire. We'll go from crying like a bunch of babies, to hyping each other up like a couple of cokeheads on a bender. By the end of the night we'll work ourselves into such a frenzy that we're gonna end the weekend early and hit the ice. Listen to me when I tell you, this team is READY for next season, thanks to weekend at Vulfzilla's. WC: 368 -> 7 TPE ![]() ![]() ![]() Registered Member

2. Looking Towards the Future
Coming into the S81 expectations were rather low, but by the end of the season it looks like the S82 will be much higher. Reaching the final four as a team of nine rookies really set the standard for success while the group is around. One of the strongest benefits they’ll have is chemistry. Unless someone gets called up to the SHL early, no one is due to be moved. Four players will be entering their final season so 83 will look different but this puts them in great position for S82. That’s four players at 425 (2 forwards, 2 defenseman). Eight other players are looking at being above 300, with a handful of them being locked at the 2nd year 350 TPE cap. The team will look to round that out with some solid earners in the S82 J draft, and put them in a great position for the next handful of years while the St. Louis Seven (active rookies from S81 draft) are in town. The holes they’ll have on the roster are few, but important to keep this team afloat and strive for the aspirations the S81 season set for them. They’ll look to fill two forward slots and two defensive slots. (Maybe 1 defensive slot and 1 goalie if someone makes a switch). 217 words - 4 TPE 10. In the Zone The standout performer in the playoffs for the St. Louis Scarecrows was definitely Teemu Jarvinen (@Omniscius). This six foot eight monster might have single handedly kept the Scarecrows impressive playoff push alive. While his stats took a bit of a nose dive in the finals against Carolina, the team wouldn’t have been in the spot without his play in the net. While servicing mostly as the backup goalie in the regular season appearing mostly as a relief goalie/backup, he made the most of his time in the first two rounds of the playoffs getting on quite the hot streak. While there weren’t any shutouts, and only a handful of low scoring games (only 5 of the 13 from the first two rounds had 3 goals or less), he did have 406 saves which made out for a %.908 save percentage. While there are goalies higher than that, it was enough for the scarecrows to sneak by and make their way to the final four.. where they proceeded to get outscored 5-28. Neither the offense or defense got anything going so it can’t rest solely on Teemu’s shoulders. During his three best games he held the opponent to 1 goal. First was game 5 vs Ottawa where he stopped 33 of 34 shots for a narrow 2-1 victory. Second was game one vs San Diego where he stopped 31 of 32 for a 5-1 win. And third was a 3-1 victory in game three against the Tidal where he stopped 34 of 4 shots. All three games he held a 97% save rate, however his most memorable game might be game six against The Tidal. Needing to pull out a victory to stay alive in the playoffs and force a game 7, Teemu once again played hero stopping 43 of 45 shots to force an overtime with the game tied at two. In overtime he made ten saves before Dakota Glover won the game for St. Louis. He probably won’t get any looks for overall playoff MVP, but in STL he definitely played hero along side Center Boogan McGillicuddy to will the team to the final 4. 356 words - 7 TPE. 14. R&R Shortly after the season came to a close in a crushing series sweep to the Carolina Kraken, Toivo would hang out around town for a few days to decompress with the team but then make his way back home to Finland shortly after. This would prove to be a good move as he was selected to be on Finlands roster for WJC, and getting to be around his native tongue again would help him acclimate. He’d visit his family in their new home he helps pay for as a thank you to his parents for supporting him along his hockey journey up to this point, and just reconnect with them since this season was his first time away from home for an extended period of time. However it wouldn’t be all rest and relaxation with the family. With the WJC looming overhead, he’d still have to wake up early and head down to the local ice rink with his younger brother and get some conditioning and practice in. To wrap up some family time in the offseason, towards the end when Toivo has to report back in St. Louis the family would take a trip to Disney World as they’ve never previously been able to go (or afford). They’d experience something new, get to spend more time together, and Toivo wouldn’t have to travel as far alone back to St. Louis. 231 Words - 4 TPE 18 Milestone Claims: Have 3 but only need 1 to reach the 16 total here. 4+7+4+1 = 16 TPE for me ![]() ![]() Registered Senior Member

1. Fan Appreciation Day +2 TPE During fan appreciation day, the thunder bay walleyes offered a special wiiiiiiide burger with the prchase of every beer or soft drink. This monstrosity had a diameter of 30 cms, and was designed to be shared, although many took it as a challenge, reulting in a large percentage of fans leaving before the 1st intermission. The kiss cam during the game was replaced with romantic pictures of couples "lady and tramping" the burger, meeting halfway and french kissing each other with mouthfuls of half chewed burger in their mouth. These romantic moments resulted in Thunder bay being called the "paris of the north," with many couples choosing to honeymoon here (110 words) 12. On the Radar +6 TPE The second iteration of pasta the turtle is the polar opposite of his predecessor. While the senior thrived in defensive situations, often deployed as a crease clearing defenceman, the junior is a power play specialist. Where the older turtle prided himself on his shot blocking acumen and thunderous hits, paste the second is a point shooter, preferring to funnel pucks to the opposition net. While pasta is a more defensive build, that does not mean he is neglecting his defensive duties. he was a team leader in takeaways, relying on his hockey iq to be in the right spot at the right time, and having a smart and active stick to disrupt the opposition from setting up in the thunder bay area. That said, he is someone who applies the 80/20 principle to defense. He does enough to not get caved in, but saves an extra gear for when he is on offense. His hockey iq applies equally to the offensive arena, where he is always skating and moving to where his opponents can find him in open ice with space to unleash his shot. his biggest weakness in the offensive arena is his puck distribution, but that is something he is spending his offseason improving. He is not someone who is turning pucks over on a regular basis, but his creativity so far has been limited to his ability to find spots on the ice where he can unleash his shot. This occurs both in terms of getting open to receive a pass, as well as his ability to stick handle the puck through and around opposition defenders. This, again, is diametrically opposed to the playstyle of pasta senior, who worked tirelessly to dispossess opponents of the puck, and then quickly distribute the puck with a well aimed pass out of danger. (303 words) 16. Goals +5 TPE My number one player goal is to be active all the way up to my retirement. I stretched myself too thin with my last player, taking on too many jobs, and starting to feel overwhelmed. Life gets busy, and shl started to feel like a job instead of the relaxing creative outlet it had started off as. This time around, I am content to write media, possibly get back into the podcast game, and just enjoy being a player. I am also aiming to grow my bank account so that when life (inevitably) does get busy, I am not limited by my financial resources. I must add at this point that the new portal is amazing, and a huge part of why I recreated. I was just checking in to see what was going on with my previous iteration and when I saw how easy updates etc where, I recreated on the spot. It is an amazing site, and I suspect is going to make it much easier to see my player through to retirement. I would also like to target the 2k TPE target. I think I maxed out at 1500 or 1600 last time, so I am hopeful to get to the much vaunted 2k mark. I am also hoping to get into creating graphics this time around. I am not someone artistically inclined, but it is something I am hoping to develop. Seems to me that graphic options for tpe tasks or media would be a really fun way to learn and develop this skill. 3. Secret Plans:
The Carolina Kraken celebrated their first 4-Star cup victory in 26 seasons this year, and the source of this victory was fueled by a tightly-kept, carbonated secret. Following this success, rumour out of the Kraken locker room is that every water bottle on the bench will be filled with varying flavours of Dr. Pepper. Water and beer have been outright banned at their home arena, and any Pepper deniers on the team are currently on the trade block. This year and onward, the club will be drafting based on soda preference, instead of organizational need. PED usage (Performance-Enhancing Dr. Pepper) has not yet been cleared by the commissioner of the SMJHL, but the belief is the organization will appeal any decision made against the delicious beverage. According to sources, the team has also reached out to the Doctor for a potential sponsorship agreement, including a Dr. Pepper inspired third jersey, but were rebuffed and served a cease and desist by the parent company. Word count: 163, +3 TPE 7. Winner Winner Chicken: Sweet, sweet victory (brought to you by Dr. Pepper ™). Being a part of your S81 champion Carolina Kraken squad, I can provide a look behind the curtain of what really lead to this scorching steak towards the cup: the power of friendship. Sure, the team is dotted with an absolute all-star group of talent at forward; Hetaksh, Willis, Chaewon, Koala, Arbwranger, Goostavo etc etc. The club had arguably the best defense pairing in the playoffs with Kenneth Lind and Chuck Stewart. Honza Havran turned in an all-time goaltending performance to let the offensive run their perfect, loosey goosey hockey. But the motivation that fired all of this was the teams desire to win it for Sve7en. To get him that elusive cup that he had been chasing for literal years. To send him off to which ever expansion city he has his eyes on, with a sparkling trophy in tow. Word count: 151, +3 TPE 9. What’s in a Name?: There is a plethora of really funny meme names in the SHL (I’m not one of them, Ryan Dino-Nugget Hopkins is my god given name), but to select the best is a challenge. One of my absolute favourites has to be Future Considerations. I recently made a joke in the Kraken locker room that KEL defenseman Bartholomew Aittokallio would be traded for future considerations, and noted that would be a hilarious name for a player. Lo and behold, I’m not nearly as clever as I had hoped, because someone had long beat me to it. Zetterberg, kudos to you. Another personal favourite of mine is Jason Bourne, simply because I can’t not say “Jesus Christ, that’s Jason Bourne” anytime I see the player’s name. Finally, Smitty Werbenjaegermanjensen is a name to never to be forgotten on a list like this. Challenging commentary and jersey designers alike, Smitty carries perhaps the most interesting surname in the game, and perhaps the one with the most consonants. They were definitely referred to Smitty W in school. Honourable mention to the Aittokallio twins, mainly because your parents must hate you to name you like that. I think you’re both great, but maybe find a nickname… like Bart and Art. Word count: 205, +4 TPE 12. On The Radar: Ryan Dino-Nugget Hopkins: A hulking power forward 6’3, 230lb winger drafted 9th overall by Carolina in the last SJMHL entry draft. Strengths: Lethal shot in the attacking blue paint to hash marks, managing 13 goals and 147 shots in 16:50 ATOI in his rookie season. Exceptional hitting at open ice and along the boards, averaging 1.6 hits per game from the third line. Forced 27 takeaways both, effective with his stick in body in all 3 zones. Clutch factor on display in the playoffs, putting up 9 goals and 16 points through 22 games, including two hattricks in the finals. Weaknesses: Skating remains a work in progress, and was reflected in substandard possession stats, reflected in Corsi and Fenwick. As a shoot first winger, many of RDNH’s passes lead to a giveaway, and that ability needs to be developed further to provide offensive options when carrying the puck. Outside of hitting, defensive stats are subpar and need to be improved to survive in the SHL. Projection: Based on the potential for marked improvement in his sophomore season, combined with his inherent goal scoring and clutch play on the way to a cup, Hopkins projects to be in the 10-15 range of the SHL draft. Milestones +3 TPE Code: 1. Fan Appreciation Day The Kelowna Knights would be handing out pucks, mystery pucks that have a signature from one of the players on it. Its up to the fans then to figure out who's signature they got. The team sat down and signed pucks for nearly 3 hours before the game in preparation for one puck for every person in the stands, with an even number of each player. Sir Bart spoke about it in an interview with reporter Lasse Zeigler, "I thought it would be a fun idea, something different than the normal fan appreciation giveaways. The best part about it, it is memorabilia that can be worth lots in the future too if some of our guys go on to the SHL." This all happened on the last game of the Regular Season at home for the Kelowna Knights, which coincidentally against the Carolina Kraken where they were slammed 6-2. Sir Bart went minus 3 and a penalty for Slashing, giving a nice ole' hack into the ankles of Ryan Dino-Nugget Hopkins - @RLG91 1. 172 Words (+3 TPE) Code: 2. Looking Towards the Future The Kelowna Knights are a very young team, and only lost 2 players to call ups last season, Juanne Hawkey and Jon-Isaac Forty-One, our number 1 Center and our Tandem Goaltender with Satoshi. This season, we look to be even better. Here is our projected lineups: Left Wing Center Right Wing
Dirk Dienhart - 425 Jordan Lafreniere - 425 Levi Bedrock - 425
Cutter Gauthier - 425 David Corrigan - 425 Khalfani - 425 Krish Gainz - 350 Mel Guolla - 425 DRAFT PICK Left Defense Right Defense Rawbie Gardner - 350 Erik Johnson - 425 Sir Aart - 350 Sir Bart - 350 DRAFT PICK Pierre LeBlanc - 350 Goaltenders Yuri Satoshi - 350 DRAFT PICK As you can see, we are good. Our Forward core is all 425 Capped players, our D-Core is a bit behind, all stuck at the 350 Cap, and our Starter is a 350. But we look still to contend, and hopefully be able to take the cup this coming season. With the upcoming S82 SMJHL Draft, Kelowna need to take 3 players, one Forward (Winger, doesn't have to be Right Wing), a Defenseman, and ideally Left Side, and a goalie that can play under Satoshi or even tandem minutes. The future looks bright for this group of Knights, as this season isn't even our peak, the next season after is, where basically our whole Defensive Core will be able to uncap to 425 Applied TPE.
2. 228 Words (+4 TPE) Code: 7. Winner Winner Chicken The team that won the Four Star Cup this season was the Carolina Kraken over the Kelowna Knights, 4-2. It was a hard fought battle and one that truly was enjoyable to be a part of, and I do think Carolina deserved that cup. Not that I am saying Kelowna didn't deserve the cup, but Carolina fought long and hard for it. Do I think Carolina was the best team? No, I do believe that the best team this season was definitely Quebec City, yet they couldn't make it past Vancouver, another solid team. In the end, Carolina won for a few different reasons. They have a great set of defenseman that can shut down any team with ease, and when a shot does end up slipping past the defensive line, Honza was there to make the save, and truly had a remarkable playoff performance. But you still have to give respect to their forward group, a bunch of amazing players, and some rookies that can put up great numbers for depth scoring. Carolina was one of the most rounded teams in the league, but the main reason for their success was that they came out ever single minute of the playoffs ready to play, and more determination to win than some other teams. 7. 214 Words (+4 TPE) Code: 9. What's in a Name? Well I personally have a major bias here, as me and @TheSparkyDee have the best names in the whole SMJHL and SHL. Some people may look, and be like, oh, what is that long, jumbled name of nonsense? Well let me explain. Bartholomew is a memorial to one of many people's friends last player in the SHL, TheDangaZone. Aittokallio is a name that has deep roots within the SHL, from JayWhy's long lineage of Aittokallio's and Luke's previous player before Jackass Pants. And Lorequavius is just a cool sounding name, right? Insired from @lore, a dear friend that I truly love to bully sometimes. 9. 104 Words (+2 TPE) ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Registered Member

1. Fan Appreciation Day
I came up with the idea of handing out a handmade logo in the shape of our Malamutes' paw. It can be both decorative and useful as well. Such a hand-sized paw in the colors of the Yukon Malamutes can be used as a backpack patch, a coaster for a cup or phone, a wall decoration, even if it has an infamous stain on it, or even as a characteristic keychain or bag pin. These decorations will be given out before the start of the first S82 match to the fans at Takhini Arena because despite the unsuccessful previous season, we appreciate their contribution to supporting our team and so that they always have something to be proud of as residents of Whitehorse and the entire Yukon. These gifts will be handed out not only to those who will buy tickets for the game, but also to those who will take advantage of the pre-match offer at the stadium. (Words: 159/+3 TPE) 2. Looking Towards the Future The needs are the same as last season - strengthen the defense. At the moment we have the second or third worst defense in the league, we have conceded the most goals in the league, so this is undoubtedly our biggest pain. In attack it doesn't t look too bad, because we were often able to take the initiative in matches, even with stronger rivals, but sometimes we lacked of effectiveness. We lost a good class 79, but offensive power still seems to be our strong point. Just like last season we have to count on drafted players, because we lack offensive players to fill at least three formations, but now the team seems to be more balanced. From the previous draft two defenders and a goalkeeper stayed with ust, so this should bring a bit more calm at the back. Especially since in this part of the team it seems almost complete. (Words: 152/+3 TPE) 14. R&R Being eliminated in the first round gave us plenty of time, so I primarily used this period to improve my skills to be prepared for the World Championships and for the start of the next club season. I'm determined to reach the 350 TPE limit before the first week of S82 starts. On more cosmic things, on March 29th I watched a solar eclipse, probably the first one I've seen in my adult life, and I was able to take a picture with my phone, photographing the eclipse by filtering image with an X-ray photo. The view was beautiful, although it was only 6 percent of the eclipse. And on a much more earthly note, I'm spending time with my dog and girlfriend, who are the most important people in my life, and I'm also playing the best immersive sim and probably my most loveable action game, Deus Ex, for the second time in my life. (Words: 156/+3 TPE) 15. Charity Drive I am an animal lover, especially a dog lover, having one myself. Living in Poland, a European country, it is absurd to me that healthy dogs and cats are put down due to lack of space in shelters. Therefore, in order to help shelters, I have launched a charity to protect all animals from being euthanized for this reason, increasing the database of homes willing to temporarily adopt, and also making donations to a foundation that helps animals, so that never again will an animal have to lose its life due to trivial, economic reasons. We owe it to dogs, who for generations have given themselves into the hands of human, so that he can create breeds suitable for every home, so that some unfortunates pets, due to ignorance and lack of conscience, do not control the growth of dogs, who are completely subject to people. Their misfortune is the result only of our actions and helping them is our necessity. (Words: 161/+3 TPE) 16. Goals I'd like to win title, whatever it could be. I'm aware, that I can win completely nothing here, because that's the way sports works. If it is what waits for me, I'm good, unless I'll have good time in here, I feel needed and drive my career to the very end with feeling I'm done what I wanted. (Words: 58/+1 TPE) 18. The beginning of my stuffs:
1. Fan Appreciation Day: Fan appreciation is the pinnacle of any team, but it takes a dedicated person to really go all in for a non-Major league team, and those fans deserve something to cherish. For Quebec City we designed a little owl figurine giveaway to all of the fans who showed up for our final regular season home game. Designed with the thought of nurturing the youth players, the design is three adult snow owls behind a baby owlet. Written on the feathers of each of the adults are the names and numbers of all of the players from the 3 previous seasons drafted to Quebec City and on the baby are the names and numbers from this past season's draft and player pickups. These owls are on a nest with the season's start and end dates along with a star on each side representing the two back to back championships prior to it. (151 words / +3 TPE) 10. In the Zone I feel that I was one of the players for Quebec City that was able to shine in a very difficult playoff run for us. Being a part of the only line that had all three players finish positive, it was a shock that I was able to continue a pretty decent regular season where I finished a +28 in 66 games to finish +9 in 10 in the playoffs. I also was able to have some very high game ratings, with a 76 Game Rating comprised of a 75 Offensive rating and a 74 Defensive rating. Regular season didn't treat me kind, only putting up a 65 Defensive rating, so there was a really big improvement there which I feel is going to do wonders going into next season. I also doubled my shooting % going from 9% to 17.4%. That change to the curve on the stick definitely helped since all regular season it was like shooting at a walrus (hi Wal Rus) blocking the entire net. Being on pace for 60 points at a 25/35 split to goals and assists made me realize that there is a lot of untapped potential ready to be unleashed. Evil is finally back ![]() (203 words / +4 TPE) 16. Goals After this first season I feel that my goals can increase immensely. Playing out of my initial position and thriving as a Left Winger but still putting up 50 points in a very stamina crushing schedule shows that I can do more. Going back to my initial plan of being a right winger and having my linemate from the playoffs Duke Howard with me should lead to more opportunities. I also feel that I will be a cornerstone of next season's top line (or two) along with the power play and possibly penalty kill. My goal for next season are to double my goal output to at least 30 and also put up 50 assists, aiming for a point total around 80. I feel these are all very optimistic of what may be a challenging first season due to the loss of a lot of the top players, but I believe that we do have a great core that should be able to help each other crush the upcoming season. From a team goal, I want to see us dominate the regular season. Obviously I would want another trophy, but a more realistic goal might be a top 3 spot. Seeing how many teams are losing very few (or zero) players, I know it will be a major challenge to stay on top of the standings, so aiming for that first round home game I feel is attainable without being soul-crushing if it's not achieved. Finally, I want to actually see us keep up the overall positive +/- across the board. We had solid lines and did really well both on even strength and shorthanded so I feel having a positive average, or even everyone being positive, could be attainable. A very very personal goal is to finally score on my friend @Deli (Tyler Bodega from Great Falls). My group of 4 friends joined alongside me and we all had a goal of scoring on him, however none of us did. It will be great to finally break that wall and start the strobes and goal horn with that puck behind him ![]() (351 words / +7 TPE) 18.
