Last night wrapped up the 1st sim week for S81 in SMJHL. The Armada set out on their Voyage and in this article we will do game recaps and have a brief interview with Patrick Rail and his thoughts after playing 13 games.
Game 1 Anchorage v St Louis Anchorage made the long journey to St Louis where they ended up losing the game in a shootout. It was a high scoring game 6-5. Scarecrows went 60% in the faceoff dot. Armada led the game in shots with 48. J. Dub was the best player for the Armada going 1-1-2 with a +2. Leaving with a team high 83 game rating (93 on offense). Game 2 Armada vs Whale Killers Whalers are people who hunt whales and the Armada made them pay for that. They won 5 to 1. The Armada had 44 shots on goal and had 31 hits. J. Bodine led the Armada with a 86 game rating with a 90 defensive rating. R. Kirkby had a great offensive game with a 81 offense rating getting 3 assists and taking the first star of the game. Game 3 Armada v Grizzlies Armada wrapped up their 3 game road trip, dropping the final game 5-1. Grizzlies led in every category except hits. Patrick Rail faced his foe in Yoshinobu Ishii. Ishii took this game with an assist and a 70 game rating vs Patricks 65 rating. Kirkby had a solid game for the Armada. Had the highest game rating on the team with a 77 72 offense and 83 defense leading the team in all 3 categories. Game 4 Highlanders V Armada Home opener was a tough 2-1 shootout loss to the Highlanders. Armada only won 26% of the faceoffs and that was most likely the cause of the defeat. J.Dub was the skater with a 78 game rating. Jonny Hockey did have 96 game rating giving up 1 goal off of 51 shots. Great game from Jonny and the rest of the boys definitely wanted to do better for him. Game 5 Armada V St Louis Scarecrows probably regret getting the Armada scheduled so closely together. Armada blew through the straw men 5 to 1. Holord III led the team with a 89 game rating, being bolstered by a 99! defensive rating. Patrick went 0-2-2 with a +2. Reg Kirkby got the first star of the game with 2 goals. Game 6 Armada v Raptors Armada was able to keep the winning streak going by beating Colorado 5 to 3. J. Dub continued to lead the team in game rating with a 82. Matthew Pano got 2 goals and took the first star of the game. D. Fruhstuck had a 98 defensive rating and had 5 block shots. Game 7 Armada v Berserkers The Berserkers went off on the boats 7 to 1. The top team in the league had their way in this game and there wasnt much that the Armada did right. High game rating was held by Luke Toussaint at a 70 and if that doesnt tell you how bad of a game it was nothing will. Poor Jonny Hockey was put in front of a firing squad. Game 8 Timber v Armada Anchorage thought they were going to come home and have a nice time but they ended up losing 6 to 4 versus the Timbers. Hoglord III ended up with the high game rating for the Armada with a 82. He went 1-0-1 with a +2. J Dub got the 2nd star going 1-1-2 +2. Game 9 Berserkers v Armada In the quick rematch the Berserkers were able to come out on top 3-1. Armada showed more heart compared to the first game but it just wasnt enough. Linus Ully came away with a 88 game rating. Fruhstuck did his best with a 87 game rating and had a 100 rating on the defensive side. He blocked 10 shots in this game! Meredydd Meyrick came away with the 2nd star. Game 10 Armada V Tidal Armada put all their losses behind them and came out firing on the tide beating them 5-2. Linus Ully had a 100 game rating, but this game was carried by Patrick Rail. Rail came out with a 90 game rating, 100 offensive rating and 83 on defense. This was his most complete game going 1-2-3 with a +1 he also had 4 hits. He took the first star. J. Dub came out with a 93 defensive rating to lead the team. This game may be a turning point. Game 11 Armada v Whale Killers Pt2 Anchorage decided to keep on their winning ways by defeating the whale hunters 5 to 3. Matthew Pano led the team going 1-2-3 with a +2. He had a 100 offensive rating to lead the team. Patrick lead the team with a 94 defensive rating and he netted one goal. Jonny Hockey had a good game saving 27 of 30 shots. Game 13 Grizzlies v Armada The boats continue their winning ways pushing their winning streak to 4 games. Going 3-0 since making Fruhstuck the captain. Hoglord III had a team high 85 game rating with a 98 on the defensive side. He did that by blocking 3 shots and hitting 8 players! Hughes Incorporated came away with the first star by getting 1 goal and 2 assists. J dub came away with 3rd star with 1 goal and 2 assists. Game 14 Berserkers V Armada Armada ended up dropping a heart breaker to the Berserkers 5-3. Berserkers putting the puck in the empty net with just 10 seconds remaining. Bodine led the Armada with a 72 game rating. Fruhstuck had a 88 on the defensive side with 4 blocked shots. Ully had struggled posting a 76 game rating in net. Game 15 Walleye V Armada Armada came out mad and had the taste of the last lost on their mouths and blew the walleye out of the water by a final of 8-4. Wass led the team with a 86 game rating. We sat down with Patrick Rail for a quick quarter season interview. Advocate: Patrick, Thanks for taking this interview. Please share your thoughts on the season so far? Patrick: You're very welcome! Yes so the season has been up and down. I think as a group we are getting better and really gelling. I think towards the end of the season you are going to see this team take off with potential. Advocate: You are tied with rookies with points, how does that feel? Patrick: Man it is so awesome to be with the top of this draft class. I feel like I haven't truly reached my potential on the scoring yet. I feel I would be scoring more goals but man my guys bury it when I pass it to them. Advocate: Biggest surprise so far? Patrick: How amazing Fruhstuck is. This dude is a puck magnet when he gets down to block a shot. He just gets hit and keeps going. He is a brick wall out there and I know all of us appreciate how he plays. That is why the team gave him the Captaincy he leads by example. Advocate: Now to address a rumor, some people have been saying that they want you off the team can you comment on this? Patrick: I'm not going to get into the locker room talk. Figgy and the team want me here so I am here. I love my team and I think you will have drama at points but you just have to move by it as a team. Advocate: Tell us who do you hang with on the team? Patrick: Jonny is my main guy. He is a goalie so you would think he would be weird but man is a gem. Jay Dub has been showing me some of his moves and has become a role model in the locker room. Advocate: Thank you for the time is there anything you have for us? Patrick: Go Armada! Thank you to the fans for the continue support. Also congratulations to Fruhstuk on being named Captain, Hughes Incorporated for his Assistant Captaincy and Matthew Pano for being named Assistant Captain as well! We will be back in a week to recap the mid season mark. We really appreciate the Armada for giving us the access to the team. Become a Deckmate Today by Visiting www.Armada.SMJHL.com today!
