S53 WFT #4 - Make The Case

A goalie will win the SHL rookie of the year award.

Against. Ivan Maximum should be the front-runner for the rookie of the year, with 29 points so far. His defensive play has been superb as well as eveidenced by his 86 shot blocks.

Detroit will win the 4-Star Cup
FOR: Detriot has dominated. Yea I think they could lose on some fluke series, but with how FHM is, I see fluke wins/losses as more of a rarity. I highly doubt someone can pull of an upset for the whole series.

"Detroit will win the 4-star cup"

Against. While yes they have maxed out players and have looked good in matches, their schedule has also been very easy. They've had the fewest back to backs of any team in the league and have been playing against mostly bottom feeding teams for the majority of their points. When a team is on their level (Anchorage) or even just a good team (like St Louis or Kelowna) they look beatable. A lot of victories have also come from the back foot, where their opponents have beaten Detroit for most of the match before the birds find some magical luck to get a goal that forces OT or gets them a regulation win. Not only that but with one of the worst PDO ratings in all of the SMJHL, their luck is going to run out once the schedule gets harder for them which it inevitably will. Once they get tired and the schedule ramps up against them, they will struggle. Teams have caught up on the stamina game so its only a matter of time now.

They are a good team, but they are not guaranteed champions by any stretch

A goalie will win the SHL rookie of the year award

Thats something that could happen. When you see how hard the time for White Goodman in Texas net is and how good he does. He could win the rookie of the year award.

Someone with fewer than 425 TPE will win the SMJHL MVP award

For - It's already been mentioned a few times but the current league points leader is Williams at 350 TPE. With just about 15 games left in the season, he has 11 more points than 2nd place. 2nd place is also his line mate, so a scoring surge from him to try and catch up will probably just result in more points for Williams as well to help solidify his lead. He also has a 68 CF%, over 100 SOG, and is on Detroit, so the scoring will probably continue as we enter the final stretch of the season.

For! Luca Del Vecchio is having a statement year in his debut season. He has faced the third most shots in the league despite being ninth in minutes played (sorry bro) and has posted a .917 save percentage. LDV is also tied for 3rd in game rating for whatever that is worth. LDV is a huge reason why WKP is not at the bottom on the east.

Soft Against - Slap McShotty has the highest assist pace in the league, and it's conceivable that he could get close to the 60 mark, but he's a bit short now. With Wagstrom's goal scoring rate, I could see a few more offensive explosions against weak teams vaulting him ahead of his current pace, but I do doubt he'll hit 60.

Against, with all due respect, McShotty is an S47 Outlaws prospect. He's bound for greatness and his first step towards that is the 60 assist mark this season. He's only going to get hotter as the season rolls on, it's like catching your second wind on a run. He's gonna be mid-runner's high over the homestretch and I could conceivably see him dropping 65.

They might look good now, but they've had a very easy schedule in the beginning of the season. Now that their schedule is becomming a bit tougher they are feeling the fatigue like all the other teams in the SMJHL. The other day the lost to the last placed team in their conference. They are beatable, we just need the force of the schedule and fatigue to be able to do so.

Sorry Katth, but I gotta go "for" here (and be a bit realistic even as another GM). We've seen Detroit lose a couple times to shittier teams but those have been one offs. A playoff series isn't a best of 1, it's a best of 7 and I can't see Detroit losing 4 of 7 to really any team in this league barring some unforeseen circumstances. If teams are relying on force of schedule and fatigue to hopefully scrap out some wins with Detroit, they aren't even in the same ballpark to begin with.

Juke, my guy, what an idiotic take. The answer is obviously Clean Andrei Kostitsyn. I've never seen someone have such an impact on and off the ice. Off the ice, he's always buying cocaine, I mean corn bread for the boys and on the ice he's always sitting in the box. Oh wait this isn't least valuable player? Nevermind, For, I agree with Juke.

Quote:Andrej Doskocil is the toughest guy in the SHL

Not even a question here. The guy is a beast. He'll kick the shit out of you, then shut down your offense. I'm not sure there's a better defensive dman in the entire league right now

I dont think this will happen because the guy leading the league in assists currently, only has 35 assists in 35 games. He would need 25 assists in the next 15 games to reach this.

Ola Wagstrom is the SHL MVP

Like, how can you even argue with this. Sure, Lagerfield has more points, but he's also on a team that is already good, and their coaches probably simmed like 6000 seasons to find the most exploitable build out there to achieve it, so Wagstrom wins every day there.

Detroit will win the 4-Star Cup

For: This one is a no brainer. The Detroit Falcons were the favorites going into this season because of their extremely good rookie harvest in season 52. These younglings have had an entire season to grow and mold the team into what it is today. It would not surprise me if it turns out that the Detroit rookies from season 52 turn into the best draft by an SMJHL team in the history of the league.

But you need more than having just a strong, young group of players. Their managers and coaches have really been able to bring out the best in their players. Old and new. Half of the players in the top-8 in points right now are from Detroit. And some of them were rookies a season ago. The only part of the Detroit team that could even be considered a weakness. And it is not really fair to call it a weakness. Is their goaltending. A Jobin has one of the worst saving percentage numbers in the league. However, at the same time Jobin has a top-3 goals against average among starters. This is probably because they are facing a lot fewer shots than your average goalie in the league. Since Detroit has really strong defense, and not just a fantastic offense. Not many shots actually end up making it to their own netminder.

But another reason I believe the Detroit Falcons will win the cup this year is their current record. 28-2-4. That is right. They have only lost 4 games this season during regulation. And only 6 games in total. They are way ahead of the second team in points, the Anchorage Armada, and even further ahead than the number two in their own conference, the St. Louis Scarecrows. Oh, and I have not even mentioned their goal numbers yet. They have 143(!) goals for in 34 games played. That is an average of 4 goals scored per game! No other team is close to them in regards to that. And then with goals against, they have only let in 61 goals. Or not even 2 goals per game on average. With an average winning score of 4 against 1.5, I'm afraid to say that this season will not see much excitement in regards to who will lift the cup.

While the Detroit Falcons might lose a game here and there in the playoffs, there is absolutely no way I see them losing four games in a seven game series. They have barely lost a full series this entire season so far! No, if the SMJHL had a casino this season I would have put their odds at 1-1, because any money put on them is a guaranteed win and any casino giving any payout on a Detroit Falcons cup win would have to declare bankruptcy the day after the final championship game.

Detroit will win the 4-Star Cup

For: Detroit is a strong team and is demolishing everyone in the SMJHL so far, no reason for that not to continue. They are built for FHM and have solid tactics that fit their team, as well as having high TPE players, it'll be a challenge to beat them

"A goalie will win the SHL rookie of the year award"

Sorry but this race is too close on the skaters end to go to a goalie. While Ivan Maximus may have strong numbers due to being on a lesser performing team, the Dragons rookies of Joseph Weston and Alexei Rykov have both been putting on fantastic showings on an already strong team. The Rookie of the Season award is often at risk of going to people who gain inflated numbers due to team positional standings, but both the Dragons rookies have been given none of that
