Prompt #2
Cillian Kavanagh wraps up his 6th season in Texas with another very solid season. Finishing the regular season with a record of 38-10-5, a save percentage of .914 and a GAA of 2.36. Of course, Cillian could not have done this without the help of his teammates helping keep the puck out of the net. The Renegades managed to finish the season in 3rd place overall with a record of 49-12-5 and 103 points. This is good for second in the Western Conference behind only Chicago. The Renegades are up against Hamilton yet again in the Cup Finals. Heading into Kav's 2nd season of regression he is not looking to slow down at all and will do whatever he can to secure more championships for the Texas faithful. PROMPT 2- Written Task: Write 100 words about anything SHL related. Venting, talking about your season, talking about site features you're excited/not excited about, fun times in LRs, whatever you want.
I think this off season was much more interesting than seasons past since The Panthers actually made it to the third round and gave Texas a run for their money. Ive yet to be on a team that made it deep into the playoffs and it finally felt engaging. With FHM absolutely hating Maine and never letting them get past Newfoundland, EVER, the off season has always been a let down. Almost enough to make me stop paying attention. But this season with LA actually going deep it actually felt like we had some mojo working. We weren't even expecting to go very far this offseason and were looking forward to next season as "our time". I feel like maybe we are starting to see some parity in this league and with all the changes to regression and whatnot coming soon it feels like it can be anyone's time to shine and not just HAM, TEX, CHI, BUFF. Also, this season our LR def felt bigger with new additions and some people coming back who disappeared for a bit. So overall, this season has been a very positive one for us. I know it's a topic that has been beaten to death but man does it really ever get tiring for me seeing the same teams winning over and over and over. Nothing has really changed now for about 10 seasons. We're starting to see the middle of the league be pretty equal now, but there is still a clear separation between the bottom feeders and the pack, as well as the top teams and the pack. Hopefully HO can keep building on the changes without damaging the integrity of the league and we can actually have some sense of parity. Usually most people disagree with me, but damn sometimes I do miss STHS

I am writing for prompt 2 because unfortunately I was away for a week and missed out on one of the tournament topics, so here I am. I have made the decision to retire many times in my career, yet I always change my mind or have had it changed for me. There was a point during the season where I decided that I wanted to finish my career after my 20th season instead of my 19th and was able to come to an agreement to return for one more season with Montreal who are entering another year of their rebuild. I had previously returned to try and join the Triple Gold Club by winning the SHL Championship, but at this point I know that isn't going to happen so I am going to just soak up the joy and honor of being apart of the SHL for one final season.

I'm sure there as been a theme within these "SHL Season in Review"s about how the past couple seasons of FHM hockey have been lacklustre - due to parity, top teams being top teams forever, repetition. I don't want to complain, but I wanna win. Real bad. So, I think we should start doing fantasy drafts every season to make sure there is no favouritsm and some semblance of an even playing ground. Also, the season should only be 12 games. Just a tournament. We can fast forward through every career.
This is in no way serious. I'm hitting that sweet word count. Also, there should be an app. ![]() ![]() ![]() Registered Posting Freak

I'm a bit hyped for the introduction of trading cards in the near future. Feels like it's gonna be a nice flash back to the past to get to see older players now that I'm not daily grinding the league. Maybe it'll respark some joy and remind me of what makes forum games fun in the first place. I also like the vibe of the standardized schedule. From my short time in Co-GMship the biggest struggle for me is never quite knowing when the draft would be, and it often ended up interfering with something I scheduled a bit back not knowing it'd interfere with draft shenanigans. Having it be so that (iirc) the SHL draft is on the Sunday of the ~7-8th week and the SMJHL draft is later that week on a Thursday/Friday really feels like it'd help with planning for people like me that ended up with scheduling conflicts and all that. Plus, it keeps things in order. Also looking forward to being a back-up updater so I can chill out, take it easy, not have to worry about not going out on Friday nights and only have to set aside Saturday afternoon's if the main's can't get everything done. That's a lot easier to handle than being busy Friday's with exams and getting caught having to do updates late on Saturday's, now that's just expected as a backup. ![]() Registered Cool guy

Everyone in this league wants to solve parity, but not everyone is aware of the true cause of imparity: customization. The lack of parity in this league isn't due to contracts, or TPE, or divisions, it is due simply to the large gap in FHM knowledge between different GMs. And, the reason FHM knowledge is so important is because there are so many tools to use. Players can control 20 or so different stats on their players, each selection of varying importantce. But the GMs have many more tools at their disposal. They have tactics, sliders, roles, ice time, line combos, they can set up the power play how they want, and they can customize tactics from global, to lines, to individual players. All of this freedom results in a disparity between how top teams are deployed. There are many wrong answers and few right answers. All of this is to say that parity is inversely related to the amount of autonomy we have as users (and gms). On one extreme end of the spectrum is 100% equality. Everyone has the same stats, same strats, and same roles. Extreme parity. The parity of a dice roll. 1 is just as common as 6. On the other end, closer to reality, is where we are now. Less parity because we have more options. And what is driving disparity is merely knowledge and time. If you want to stop those things from happening, you need to take away the tools. Personally I'm not in favor of that. And so in that sense, I think parity is unsolvable. HAM, TEX, CHI, and BUF will seemingly always have a tight-knit core of players and coaches that know the systems. The only way to stop them from being good is to prevent their GMs from being good. Yes, some GMs are better than others, and some are better are coaching than they are at building. Thats just obvious truth. GMs are not equal, though I wouldn't say anyone is particularly bad at their job. Just as a contrast, look at the real NHL. What drives parity in that league? Beyond some team restrictions like limited cap space and trade rules, is the factor of money. Everyone in the NHL wants to be the best, not only for the fame and glory but also for the money. From the star players down to the support staff behind the bench, every single one is incentivized to be the best in the league. Any time any of them thinks "maybe I'll try less hard this week", there is a big fat check reminding them that if they stop, they can potentially make less. And if they stop trying too hard, they simply wont make it in the league. The SHL has no such incentives. We have real lives to contend with. We have things to do. Motivations ebb and flow. Asking for true parity in the SHL is like asking a beer league kickball league to be even when one group has 3 dads who think about nothing but kickball and another is barely motivated to show up on game day, all playing for the same small amount of glory and nothing else. ![]() SHL GM SHL GM
Honestly I did my venting in the thread about...well I honestly don't remember but its out there somewhere. I am not really excited for much, we seem to get mad about something and it either dies and we forget about it in two weeks or it continues to be some big thing. Like the lack of people willing to join HO or parity. I will believe both will get better when I see them but I am not holding my breath. But I am still having great fun in the locker rooms and I am enjoying seeing what my Kane turned Max Talbot player is doing so ill just keep hoping that they'll turn into the player I wanted.

The SHL is a nice place where i can develop my sim hockey player, altho i have been slacking in that department lately i do still enjoy the SHL. Best part about SHL is the people and the discords. I'm in a bunch of them and try to talk in each one every now and then. It's fun making new online friends through SHL and i've had more than a few great funny moments with people on this site. I've also seen some cool people leave the SHL and never come back (so far) and its a shame. Would be nice to catch up with some of them sometime again. One day i hope to win a personal award in the SHL still since that is the only thing i havent won so far. ![]() ![]() Registered Posting Freak
Prompt 2
It’s been a solid year for the Baltimore Platoon as we have made the playoffs for the fifth season in the row and won the Atlantic Division for the third season in a row and finally our first 50 win season in the FHM era. We were the top team in the regular season in the Eastern Conference. This all sounds great until you get to the playoff performances which have seen us falter. While it’s disappointing we haven’t been able to put it all together, we know we are very close and the Platoon are going to be great for a long time. With a lot of other teams in deep regression and us just hitting our stride now, it’s going to be an exciting few seasons. ![]() Registered S18, S34, S38 Challenge Cup Champion
PROMPT 2-
IIHF this year is the first year in so many that I have even checked it. Currently playing for Latvia because being from Iceland I could declare for any nation and that's the one I chose. The team got a new Federation head this year so we're not auto-lining at least haha. It's an interesting mix of folks and it's just such a random off-season ride that I've not even noticed much lately by being in juniors and not being on a National Senior team. But this year.... I scored a goal. At least one so far anyway. Pretty rad. Good luck to all the nations participating. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ACP Access Make-A-Wish Kid |
