S82 PT #4: Hero Hockey League Due: Sunday, May 18th @ 11:59 PM PST
#46

In this universe, not some alternate one, "Deadline" Djoe Anderson is the greatest superhero to have ever graced the league with his presence. He's got the greatest superpower of all time, he can slang so many dogs (That's hotdogs for short) that you wouldn't be able to keep up. He moves faster than the flash when the lunch rush hour comes from the offices he expertly places his cart outside every wednesday before he gets chased out by the local bylaw people for not having a permit and deported. even though he's a citizen the world is a bit crazy lately. He most definitely has a supervillain he contends against, it's the people who see his hotdogs and scoff and walk away like his pricing is too much or something. but also that damned burger prince that always blows up his spot whenever he comes around. acting like he's all high and mighty since he's a prince and djoe is just a servant.

Tip Toasty’s hockey themed superpower is the ability to slapshot any object at his foes with pinpoint precision and deviation power. Even the most common piece of trash or pine cone becomes a long range weapon with the power to knock out the thugs.
Set the scene: two muggers are holding a late night jogger at knife point. Then, out of the darkness *slap* *whiz* in comes flying a crushed pop can that cracks off the head of the mugger holding the knife. *crack* a small rock ricochets off the sternum of the other mugger, knocking the wind out of him, and dropping him to his knees.
His arch nemeses include The Crossbar, armed with sturdy pipes for weapons; The Zebra, an annoying pseudo authority figure who is always trying to step in during fights; and The Instigator, a goon whose only goal is to cause chaos and violence.

I think being a team hero is being someone your team can rely on on and off the ice. I think its also being one who drives interactions with the fans and being almost a “hometown hero” of sorts. Being one who does interviews, signs autographs, almost becomes the face of the team. I do think Jen is a hero of the Dragons, but is not the biggest hero of the team. The two biggest hero’s of the Dragons are Froya and Sonja Solberg. The Solberg’s are not only two of the Dragons’ best players on the ice, but they also contribute to the community off the ice. They have been the faces of the organization almost since they were drafted, and they are also leaders in the locker room, helping guide all the new players on the best way to be a Dragon, which is why they have both been voted into leadership. While Jen is proud of what she does, the Solberg’s are true Dragon heroes.

Task 2:

A hero is a person who is brave and defends others. So in a hockey world, heroes are 4th line grinders who step up to defend their team mates. Like Keegan Kolesar in Vegas or Juni Panda in Hamilton. They put team effort before anything else. They are heroes inside the team. Of course you need also leaders who perform well. Like Jack Eichel in Vegas or Jani Mänty in Hamilton. They are heroes by scoring a lot points, killing penalties and giving important two-way game. Goalies are of course sometimes heroes too like Adin Hill in G1 in SC finals 2023 or Willie Miller in his clutch playoff run with Seattle Argonauts about 14 seasons ago. Crazy how time flies. But yeah, heroes are also trainers of the team who make everything ready for players before and after games. They do the laundry and sharp skate blades so players perform at their maximum level. Every team needs that kind of heroes too in my opinion.

Option 1:
Okay so my player turns into the Slapshot Specter, which basically means he can phase through solid objects but only when he's got his enchanted hockey stick in hand. His signature move would be the ghost goal where he literally shoots pucks that phase through peoples bodies hitting their souls and hurting them that way. Totally unfair but whatever.
His big bad is the Zamboni Zero. This absolute menace has the power to control ice resurfacing machines and turn them into battle mechs.  Imagine a Zamboni with laser cannons shooting ice beams everywhere. Last week they went at it in the parking lot after a game and Zero tried to flatten the team bus with his souped-up Zamboni army.
The best part is both their coaches pretend nothing's happening. Like, Zero will show up to practice with his evil cape still on and coach is just like "nice hustle out there." Meanwhile half the arena is still frozen from their last superhero showdown.

Option 2

One of the heroes of the Texas Renegades has got to be Chris McZerhl III.  Coming in last season as a rookie and being just one point shy of the team lead in points at 83 points.  Seeing such an offensive outburst from a new player most certainly led to Texas beating the expectations of what was meant to be a rebuilding season. This season has been a little rougher for Texas, but through 53 games McZ already has 60 points and leads the team as a second year player.  A slight dropoff in Points/Game rate, but on pace to hit 74 points this season.  Over 150 points in two seasons is ridiculous and is keeping Texas afloat during a rebuilding period. Secondary shoutout to Jack St. Clair who is on the downward slope of his career, but still leading from the front.  St Clair led the team with 84 points last season and now is second on the team just behind McZ with 57 points through 53 games.  A veteran player deep in regression still producing over a point a game is a great thing to see.

My player, Leonard Wood, is already a super hero in the eyes of all of the children in Pennsylvania. His super powers are superb puckhandling, shooting, passing, defending, etc. He is a hero on the ice. The kids look up to him as a hero. They want to grow up to be just like him, to play on the Philadelphia Forge. It is only adults that see these players as human and fallible. Adults see them as a contract taking up cap space. But the children see them as so much more, like they are capable of single handedly bringing glory to a city by winning a Challenge Cup. They act as their favorite players in the street or playing pond hockey. pretending to score that game winning goal in the championship game. To them, the players don't need any supernatural powers. Their hockey skills are their powers. They glide along the ice as heroes as the kids watch from the stands or from home on the television.

Written Option 2: A hero in sports is often described as a player who performs when the pressure is at its highest. This could be from a game winning goal in a close game, a game tying goal, a game saving defensive play or of course for our goalies out there a game saving… save! But this is only the visual aspects of being a hero on the ice. What else makes a hero on the ice or behind closed doors in the locker room. Is your player a hero for their team? Is there another player you’d consider your team’s hero?

The most superhero player on my team would be either the Solberg twins or AT-At Wølkker. The Solberg twins for being so good at hockey and coming from a country almost without famous hockey players. AT-AT Wølkker on the other hand is a humongous beast that slow but create a hard punch and have great aim. Blowing up power stations at ease. Getting tripped is the main problem. Sometimes a tiny cog can trip the big kahuna on a slippery slope. And as we know there's always a slippery slope in hockey. Nor Ge is also kind of a superhero. Awesome name. Everybody is envious on that name. And we all know that superhero's need awesome names. It could also be Aksel Fiske. A player that was discovered before jesus. Aksel scored his first goal in the SHL as a gift to jesus, but since they were a bit busy with scoring goals they did not get mentioned as one of the wise men. But I am sure that Aksel Fiske has wasted some Manhattan wisemen.

The hero on the ice is usually not the absolute best player. A lot of the time it is the player who is always giving it their all. Even if they get 5 minutes a night, you know you are getting a top effort 5 minutes, which ends up being more than a lot of other players are willing to give. They are the players who will always be first in on the dump and chase, willing to grind it out in the corner, and put their body in the way of shots whenever they can. They don't like doing it, no one does, but they are willing to do it. They are the ones who always has time for the fans, they know who is the real value behind their pay checks. They are the players fans love because after spending their hard earned money to come to a rare game, they will put forth their best effort, no matter if it is the second game, or game 7 of the championship finals. These grinders / fighters / warriors / gladiators of the rink are the true heroes.

Written Option #1:

Ville Sato-Maki wakes up over night and whenever he puts on the Moomin helmet, he feels a weird sense of power. Initially thinking it's all the hockey funk and smell getting to him, the next game wearing his usual Moomin suit finds him slapping the puck a little hard than usual and breaking his stick one too many times. Next thing you know as he's walking back to the locker room he realizes he has telekinesis! What an interesting power to have and can really alter the game if people find out! Or worse, they can lock Sato-Maki up and start doing tests on him. Regardless, Ville tries to not to use his power in game to sway the outcome, but off the ice... the criminals better watch out! Now he isn't actively looking for them, but if you just so happen to be in the area, you better hope you didn't encounter the walking Moomin!
