Pasta the Turtle was very eager as he showed up the Newfoundland Berzerker training camp. Daunted and awed by the history of the franchise, he was quickly relieved when he saw a mural of Thatcher Demko on the wall in the locker room. This was an immediate signal to him that this was a club of substance and excellence. Training begun very quickly after arriving, where Pasta developed immediate chemistry with his defensive partner Sabarro Torretta. The chemistry culminated in a play during the scrimmage at the end of the day; Pasta dove accross the ice to block a shot, redirecting the puck onto Sabarro's stick. Sabarro went coast to coast depositing the puck in the opposite net.
After the boys had hit the shower, the rookies were shocked to see the locker room filled with bottles of rum, and an assortment of cod, at varying stages of life. This was a historic welcome to Newfoundland; a "Screech-in" where each player had to take a shot of rum, kiss a cod, and say a prayer to Demko. God Bless the Zerkers! 183 words ![]() |
