S81 mPT #4: Too Dead didn’t Line Due: Sunday, March 16th @ 11:59 PM PST

The lack of movement at the deadline is currently just a result of pretty stagnant rosters and too much clutter. As the expansion over the next few seasons is likely to shake up some rosters, I expect that trade deadlines may become more exciting.

Thanks Jove for my sig

I think allowing more Soft cap/hard cap for salaries to be adjusted season to season could allow teams to up their salary this season for a penalty next season, allowing a bit more wiggle room for top teams to buy and sell at the trade deadline

I think it is tough on the players to be traded mid season but it should keep happening because it does allow players on a losing team have a chance to be on a winning team.

There just isn't much that can be done for the deadline in a sim league environment. We don't have the luxury of extra cap space to move around with and we would have to rework the whole league to make the deadline something exciting.

I think the way that it is now is totally fine. Or maybe I'm just not creative enough to think of a cool way to spice things up. Either way, my answer is to leave things the way they are.

I don't really know what to do about it. I personally never really seek trades and I haven't been a part of GMing long enough to recognize a problem or solution.

I think the reality of the situation is that NHL teams make a lot of deadline deals because players are going to be leaving in free agency anyway. If we don’t encourage more movement in free agency, the deadline will continue to be dead

i think after UFA's expire, there should be a 'bidding' process, where other teams are able to bid on UFA's and then the player would HAVE to accept a 3 season deal. mandatorily.

I think if this is the case, the cap becomes very important and teams would be incentivized to actually use cap space on good players rather than the said players give team friendly deals.

so, UFA's all go to bid upon expiry of their RFA contract (max 3 years for instance). this would cause league wide drama as well.

Is turning off line chemistry possible in the new FHM? Feels like thats the number one reason we dont see more trades. I do miss the trade deadline blockbusters in the STHS era

I think that it will be hard to get the samt amount of movement as in the NHL. Because people does SHL for fun. The players Or GMs in NHL doe s it for bussines

I don't think there's any need to artificially create player movement. Not everything needs to mirror real-life, especially with multiple seasons in a calendar year. It is simply a nature of this particular brand of game.

I think teams need more cap flexibility, to incentivize making moves during the deadline. It seems like it would be quite difficult to both have a winning team and make a deal to acquire a needle moving player, while also balancing the fact that people are friends and dedicated to their locker rooms.

Hmm, I think one of the biggest reasons for deadline movements is cap. I think cap space could take a second look to make it more competitive. Many deadline deals are based on cap space and retention and moving them for prospects/picks/futures.

I think leagues like the SHL just aren't made for things like this. There's nobody in above the GMs or in the stands to poke/prod them to finish a rebuild so they'll keep creating super teams through the draft and offseason trades rather than adding anything to their bottom lines to bolster half hearted runs like NHL teams do

I think the lack of player movement during the season only really stems from the lack of teams missing playoffs. If only 8 teams made playoffs then there would be a ton more buying and selling of assets as teams would need to be a lot more competitive to be able to do anything. Hopefully we get the 4 team expansion and see this come to life.
