S66 PT #1: Opening Ceremony

Written Task: Tell me what's going through your players head at this last moment, seconds before their first shift after a long off-season. Are they nervous? Excited? Maybe stressed? Are there specific people or moments that come to their mind? Do they need to settle down in a moment like this to play their best? If so, how? Or are you the type of player with ice in your veins that thrives in exciting moments like this? (150+ words)

Paul kOIVU usually is actaully only stressed way before the first game. He will probably not sleep at all that night, and he will be kind of lost in his thoughts throughout the day. He will also not want to do anything or see anyone during the day. He has to stay calm and do nothing for the entire start of the day, other wise he will feel tired when he's gonna be on the ice for his first shift. He also does not want to hear too much about hockey or tactics because it stresses him even more. But on the ice, all of that goes away. Some sort of weird energy overtakes Paul Koivu and he suddenly does not have any stress and is clear of mind, locked in and ready to give his best on the ice. After the first shift it really becomes normal, it is just about getting back in the mood of the game.

It's been a long and hectic offseason for Noel Blanchet. After an early playoff exit disappointment, the Platoon blew it up and Noel was traded early in the offseason to the Winnipeg Aurora. Noel hadn't really been expecting it so his life was kind of thrust into chaos upon hearing the news. It was a ton of work shifting his life from Baltimore up north to Winnipeg, not something he was prepared for. He felt as thought it kind of affected his mindset and his offseason training. Once he got himself settled though he worked out harder than he ever has and feels as though this version of him going into his first season in Winnipeg is his best yet. He's hoping this season he can kick the playoff failures of the past and bring home a championship. Waiting for the puck to drop, he's nervous. He's been traded to a new team during the peak of his career and is expected to impress. However despite the nervousness, he knows as soon as the puck drops that will all go away and its game on.

The openning night for the Chicago Syndicate featured an all kind of animal performance, which for the most part is fairly significant. Keeping in line with the theme of the mafia, the animals actually start the performance hidden under the seats of the spectators, picking pockets and snatching purses in a basically big way. They eventually make their way down to the ice and a troop of turtles specifically start spinning on their shells to the beat set by a series of majestic mooses tapping their hooves on the ice, or so they specifically thought. This sets the stage for a turtle troupe that waddles across the ice, sliding on their bellies through half pipe. The Show kind of has a grand finale where the animals spray money they stole from unsuspecting spectators into the crowd. A banner calling for an really all-animal IIHF team for all intents and purposes is strewn across the ice as the animals head for the changeroom, which is fairly significant.

So one thing that always perplexed me was that were the blizzard but our mascot is a wolf/bobcat/coyote thing which is cool but not sure how they're related. So we'd probably have one of those out on the ice or at least a video of it running a puck through the snow and ice of Canada, running to the arena and dropping it for the ceremonial puck drop at center ice. I'm sure there's a video package that would make that look totally badass. Of course there would also be fireworks, in Blizzard colors (Blue and White) which I am sure will look amazing against the night skies. Spotlights too, spotlights bring people in from all over wondering 'Hey what the hell are those weird lights in the sky'. Last but not least, a live band, probably someone cool from Edmonton (I have no idea what bands are from Edmonton, Rush maybe) play in between periods.

Creative Prompt:
As an extravaganza opening night, the Montreal Patriotes will feature: the practice rink open to the public for an on-ice meet and greet, with a center ice maple taffy serving station, the "Beat the Brick" shootout challenge where lucky winners who beat Montreal goaltender Brick Wall in a one-on-one breakaway will win season tickets and swag. The team will be available for pictures, autographs and some light shinny action with fans.

The pre-game show for the opening night will feature an on-ice ballet tribute to the Battle of the Plains of Abraham, featuring the students of Les Grands Ballets Canadiens de Montreal. There will be pinatas in the form of giant British Redcoats, filled with Patriotes hockey cards, and commemorative mini-pucks.

During the period breaks, there will be a Patriotes Trivia Challenge for the audience, as well as the Crush Cam, where the camera pans to find audience members with fresh beers, and they have to chug them as fast as they can.

After the long, grueling work of the offseason, comes the crescendo of the first game of the season. Billy Blazes was always excited for the start of any season he's ever had. Ever since he first stepped on the ice he always looked forward to his next opportunity to compete with his peers in his favorite sport. Now here he is in his 3rd smjhl season still as giddy as when he was a young boy. Standing on the blue line, amongst his teammates, staring up at the flags as the singer belts out the national anthems Billy thinks back to the first time he played for his country. Back when he was an underager playing in the euro hockey cup, he remembers the nerves he felt when he was penciled into the roster and the vitriol he saw online in response to him being on the roster. He was so nervous because he wanted to prove the haters wrong. But now he is an established player and all he has to do is play his heart out.

In St Louis, we are known for giving the people of the town and fans of the team a great time for the opening day fanatics. We will have live music, a fair outside the stadium, we will be giving away merch, the whole 9 yards. All the shenanigans start a few days prior to season opener, the team played a charity game against the local beer league champions, raising over 10 000$ for those in need, afterwards the team went around town, doing meet & greets, giving fans autographs, photos, everything they wanted. As the season opener got closer the management announced the goals for the season in public and getting applauded. Fireworks promply were fired before puck drop on the day of the match. On intermissions we had shows of all kinds, letting kids play, having a shootout competition where fans could participate in. Overall a great day, the team enjoyed it, fans loved it, and the town is in spirit to help the team win the cup!
