S62 PT#1: Game on
(This post was last modified: 11-14-2021, 08:55 PM by hotdog.)

Atlanta had a decent amount of turnover in this offseason, something we don't anticipate experiencing much of over the next few seasons. We brought in a key free agent acquisition in the form of Gabriel Johnson, who will play offense on defense for us. We also called up not one not two not three but FOUR (4) rookies to make their Atlanta debuts in the SHL this season - Jack Nishimori, Evgeni Petrov, Angus McFife XVIII, and a towel. We expect them to all start contributing right away, especially Petrov. The skaters will see plenty of ice time, but they'll be grabbing third line/third pairing minutes and won't be featured offensively. Petrov, on the other hand, will be an active backup and appear in at least 17 starts for the Inferno. Petrov has had lots of experience and training in Newfoundland and we expect him to rack up some dubs for us. We will do our best to hide the towel throughout the season and make sure he updates and earns TPE @Blastmeaway

I'm personally a bit numb to the playoffs. Our team has had tough luck in the rebuild as a lot of prospects are going inactive and we're not as strong as we projected ourselves to be in the current window. Also, New England is in a fairly stacked division so it's hard enough to get into the playoffs, but then we typically have to face off against Buffalo straight away and they have a tendency to stomp us quick. My player is starting to really feel the hit of regression so at our current progress I'm not hopeful we'll make it far into the playoffs while my player is still viable. I am hopeful to keep being an asset to my team and to continue to rack up points as I'm close to setting the franchise points record (which I attribute to being 1st line center early and often). Hipefulky we see some success before I have to retire.

“So I’m a Superstar huh”. Feels odd to consider myself one but I guess this is how THE GAME has categorized me. Joining the league in S53 we had a hell of a class so I'm sure the superstar team is STACKED now with all of us rounding out the 2k achievement within the past couple months. It’s gonna be really hard to pick but also at the same time because of how brilliantly the Baltimore Platoon has been engineered its actually pretty easy cause I'm an uncreative homer who loves me BAP… simple as. So I present to you the SUPERSTAR squad.

PLAYER - ROLE - DOMAIN - BONUS TO ROLL
Valentin Kalashnikov - Bruiser, Pain, +5 to intimidation checks.
Ethan Duncan - Maestro, Vigilance, +5 to perception checks.
Karl Krashwagen - Champion, Justice, +5 to knowledge (religion) checks.
Luca Del Vecchio - Guardian, Balance, +5 to acrobatics checks.
//Just to mix it up lets add some non BAP players and max out TPE//
Steve Harrington - Bard, Time, +5 to performance checks.
Jimmy Wagner - Rogue, Speed, +5 to stealth checks

This squad has an average TPE of: too fucking high to count. And would certainly be the most intimidating squad to go against in THE GAME.

Prompt 2:

I wonder if like the NHL, there might be some fatigue creeping up over the last couple of seasons in having a lot of game time being squeezed into one another with the days starting to blend in. Yet with the extraordinary generosity of Head Office, the league has found itself with so much free time that we were able to fully recuperate to the point of gaining complete and utter balance. Whether the sims go or not, we've found ourselves at peace. No more do the emotions swing wildly up and down but rather staying just evenly across the board regardless of the results.

Oh and I guess we also talked about the different relationship advices that we could share among one another so that was a great bonding experience as well. I will have to say that I've never appreciated a diagram of physical distance from one person to another as much as I have now.

Prompt 2

The Pride are different in Season 62 because the young team has developed another season and they’ve added a few pieces to the roster. San Francisco traded their first round pick this year to add Jack Klompus, a max earning S54 winger now standing at 1928 TPE. Klompus is a goal scorer that has fit in well on the first line with Sven Svenson (2151 TPE) and Henrik Lekberg Osterman (1886 TPE). Klompus has had an immediate impact on the team this season, tallying 8 goals and 5 assists in 15 games played. The Pride also added a veteran defenseman to the roster through free agency, signing Parker Smeb (1329 TPE) to round out the blue line group. San Francisco also traded for young Center Marco Barengrub (1033 TPE) to add forward depth in an important position. After these additions, all of San Francisco’s skaters are 1k TPE or above. The team has gotten off to a slow start with a difficult schedule, but the team has a strong growing core that should be exciting in the future.

PROMPT ONE

I reject the question’s premise - with gusto!  Many dystopian fictions revolve around the idea of malevolent artificial intelligences - algorithms that have aggregated so much knowledge that they have gained sentience and, indeed, borderline clairvoyance.  Our would be tech overlords in the real world - I won’t name names, but you know the type of person to whom I’m referring - believe their technology will emulate the God like super beings present in the works of William Gibson.  This is folly.  Their technology is, has been, and always will be, COMPLETE ASS.  An SHL alternate reality would certainly fall into the same category of technology.

So to answer your question, because of a technical error, I have been placed on the SHL Hall of Fame team, despite never having played in the SHL.  I lace up my skates sheepishly in the locker room, embarrassed to be grouped with the greatest players to ever play in the storied Simulation Hockey League.  Nat Emerson, who is a hall of fame player in my book, gives me words of encouragement.  Ryan Jesster and Sergei Karpotsov - hall of fame legends from season one - mutter under their breath, exclaiming, “back in our day we had to earn our TPE.”  Johanes Leitner and Tig Murphy - new additions to the hall of fame crew - don’t say anything, but their faces say everything - they are clearly embarrassed on my behalf.  Alas, there is no going back.  I finish suiting up and promptly embarrass myself in our first practice.

Prompt 2

How has my team changed over the offseason eh? Well first of all, we drafted a bunch of young guys that go this "gym" thing, they all like to lift things and put them down, just to repeat it all over. I dunno, seems odd to me. If I lifting something, it's either a chicken Parm or a beer, and it's going in my mouth. My heart rate is high enough when I'm resting, and all these young guys come in talking about how fit they are. Maybe it's just the old guy in me, but I never worked out a day in my life and I'm still arpund. These young guys need to figure out the secret to life as a Calgary Dragon and give up on all these "exercises" and worry more about getting a nice belly going. There's many other ways my team has changed, but this is the most alarming one to me for sure.

Prompt#2
The Buffalo Stampede had a somewhat quiet offseason this time around, at least in the form of acquiring assets. We lost a very valuable piece in Aumy Jr. due to cap issues which hurt our defensemen depth quite a bit, replacing him with Chet Hillier who only has a measly 281 tpe. Other than that we got a prospect in Daniel Merica Jr through trade who will be valuable in coming seasons as our team is getting hit by regression progressively more and more each season. Overall going into this season, I feel pretty good about it. We still have a strong roster that I believe is at least good enough to make the conf finals, and are able to at least stretch out a series against a cup favorite like Hamilton. As for my own player, I don't have that much expectation. Last season I had a relatively disappointing season offensively, at least when you compare it to my Steven's season just 2 seasons ago, but at the same time I don't really mind. I had my chance in the spotlight so if I can just produce good for my team, that's good enough for me.

WC - 197

The Anchorage Armada have not changed too much from the last offseason to this season. They have added through the draft in teh forms of LeCarpetron Dukemarriot II, Hardcastle, and Pinger Dinger. bringing in these young rookie crops will help the team tremendously throughout the Armada season, as they have lost a couple of players to call-ups over the last couple of seasons, including Cole Carter, Guy Fiere, and Alimony Tony. Mikhail Noivkov is a well tenured member of the Armada so bringing in this rookie crop will do tremendously to help. Are they going to challenge for the Four Star Cup? Doubtful, but anything can happen inside of the SMJHL. Including the playoffs, it really leaves everything wide open for any team in the SMJHL to make a deep run. Hopefully for Novikov and the rest of the team, the Aramda is that team that makes a deep playoff run this season.

Prompt 2 (I'm lazy this time)

I think the Tampa Bay Barracuda have been on a good track already before this season. So not too much changed this season, except some sacrifices to the sim gods to get us some better luck (I may just be speaking for myself here and not the rest of the team, I do not know what are doing with their free time). On top of that what a young team mostly brings to the table is the ability to grow on it's own. We do not need to add too many new people through free agency, we are building our own future with what we already have on the team. We all grew stronger, earned more TPE, got our training on and thus were able to become a stronger and better team without too much outside help, just through our strength and by keeping our heads in the game regarding our TPE earning and growing as a team.

Los Angeles has added two great players in Sarah Burke and Rock Strongo. Both are S56 players who join a core quickly approaching their prime with several other high earning S56 players. For this season, the expectations are higher than previous seasons with these additions. However, in the next two or three seasons, LA should be a force to be reckoned with once many top players approach their prime. Perhaps other recently successful teams will start to decline, leaving the door open for a new contender to emerge which LA has the strong potential to be. As a member of this team, I cannot wait for the upcoming seasons knowing the future is bright and quickly approaching. I have great confidence going forward that this window will open sooner rather than later. The new members as well as the old seem to be bought into the team and have a willingness to compete and take this team to the next step, breaking the cycle of the same teams winning the cup over and over.

Prompt 2.

One of the biggest offseason changes for chicago has been a move that won't actually be reflected in the S62 roster, but is the news of Gunnar Soderberg retiring. Although we still get one more season of Gunnar's corpse, it's still quite a blow to the team. Gunnar is a huge part of the team identity and LR activity, and an integral part of the leadership group. But luckily we all have an extra season to be in denial and pretend Gunnar isn't leaving us. In terms of roster changes, the only difference is the loss of Parker Smeb on the blue line, who is being replaced by Rintarou Okabe. Okabe is one of jukka's favorite people, closest friends, and storied mentors in the league from their NL days, and even spent a brief amount of time together on a defensive pairing during S52. Although it's not a significant TPE increase, the addition of Okabe has been tremendous for the LR and for jukka's mentality of the league, and the two are even slated to spend the season together on the same pairing to try and recreate some of their early career magic in NL.

Our team in Chicago hasn't seen too much change. Although, we did have a sad retirement of an old friend get announced. Sadly, Gunnar will be leaving us at season's end and is putting together a top flight performance so far this season as a going away party. However, the outlook for the season remains very much the same as it has for the last few seasons. The team is aging, but still very strong. Among the best in the league, many would contend. And as such, the expectations are at the very least to have a playoff berth. Of course, within our room we know that just having another trip to the playoffs isn't enough. We have too much talent to celebrate simply being in the race. We want to be there on the final day of the season. There's plenty of really talented teams out there, but if we have our way we might just be able to bring another Challenge Cup back to the city of Chicago. This does feel like the first season in quite a while that we might just be a bit of an underdog when we do get into the playoffs.
