Umm.... SHL stands for Symbionese Human Liberation. It's a ... a political group that attempts to free the oppressed peoples of the earth .... oh hell, that sounds even worse that what it really is. It stands for Simulation Hockey League. It's a fake hockey league played out with a video game and a set of online forum topics where I have a player that has been playing for literally years and is still mediocre and I play anyway. Why? It's fun? (gulp)

Hi, mom. SHL is something I was learning about in school actually. Synthetic heart levels is something we were discussing in PE since we're going over the anatomy of the body I guess. Not really sure why it's being discussed but eh, PE is PE.

Oh no! Your partner/boss/parents just heard you talking about the SHL. Clearly there's no way to tell them the truth, that you spend your free time pretending to be a hockey player on an online forum. Quick! What do you tell them SHL stands for (and what do you do there) to avoid being dumped/fired/shipped off to military school?

The SHL which stands for the Superior Honesty League is a new organization to help deal with HR issues in workplaces, it was recently founded last year and has been a staple in resolving internal conflicts in various workplaces.

SHL obviously stands for simulated horse legs. We spend all day analyzing simulations of different kinds of horse legs to better understand how horses run so fast. This technology is currently being used to develop better prosthetic limbs for those in need.

SHL stands for Swedish Hockey League. It is a div 3 hockey league in Sweden that I actively enjoy. It's weird but not as weird as having a fake hockey player. Ha...haha

as a programmer i constantly need to be working with SHL. i'm constantly working to get my Tenured Programmer Experience up each week with weekly Asynchronous Challenges and the occasional Programmer Tasks.

I'm a programmer so I need to come up with something related. A little techno babble should sell it, so why don't we go with "Schema Heuristic Language".

Schema: One of those words that sounds familiar and a non-layman might actually know.
Heuristic: Sounds sufficiently techno babbly and if they do happen to know the term they know it is "programming" related.
Language: everybody knows programmers use languages to work, so it all works!

SHL obviously stands for Super-real hockey league. Anyone who knows me knows that I am extremely good at hockey and also that I am capable of ice skating. So it would make sense that I am able to play real life hockey

SHL or Simulated Hearing Lab is a simulated lab to 1. learn about how your ears work and 2. test your hearing. With all the noise pollution and other damaging sounds we are surrounded by, it is recommended to test your ears in the SHL multiple times daily.

I'm telling them the SHL is a hedge fund called Syntax Hyper Liquidity. They'll of course think I'm a super genius and am using my computer to run market simulations and not play league of legends.
