(2000 words ready for grading)

S50 is upon us like the cold grasp of winter, sending chills through our spines as we prepare for the cold bleakness and dark moonlit evenings. This squad was left mostly unscathed by the large retirements of the s49 offseason, but they did take a big blow with Noah Konn retiring. They still are a formidable squad and likely will do some damage in this tourney.

The Roster

Dayymo Ralchankinov had an outstanding s49. Truly becoming one of the top forwards in the league, Ralchankinov is taking advantage of being in the prime of his career by taking over an amazing scoring role for the Platoon and leading their charge into the playoffs. He will be in great company of elite talent on this team. @damienj10

Rafe Ulrich had a renaissance season, leading the Wolfpack to a president’s trophy season that was out of left field for most SHL viewers. Ulrich has taken up a large role on the Wolfpack and really brought some offense that the team has been looking for recently. Ulrich will have some big seasons in the future, I can feel it. @Raven

Cameron Carter II is a controversial figure in the SHL world because of his outlandish media tirades. Personality aside, he is one of the top scorers on Chicago and is a great offensive talent on a team which lacks in a lot of departments. Perhaps with better linemates on the Sharks he can show off the generational talents he’d like us to believe he has. @Boomcheck

Herb Robert had an amazing season on the Rage, leading in scoring for the team. He was shipped off of the Wolfpack and eventually fell to them in the conference final, but he will be a great player for the Rage in the coming seasons as they continue to be on the rise as a team. @gerarob

David Kastrba had a very solid s49 on the Rage. Specializing as a premier 2-way forward, he played great hockey in both the offensive and defensive zone. He will be very important to the Rage and continue to shut down opponents night in and night out. @hewasajazzman

Soren Kierkegaard didn’t see much ice this past season, but he was very important to the Chemistry of the Specters. As they continue to see their vets retire, Kierkegaard holds valuable knowledge of SHL hockey and continues to mentor the young guys that the Specters have been lucky enough to draft these past few seasons. @Tlk742

Xavier Paquette bounced around from team to team last season, but that means his services were very valued by many teams, right? He was an important depth piece to quite a few teams and was happy playing that role. He wasn’t a defensive liability and could be trusted to play a shutdown game in the dying minutes of the third. Overall, he might not be a superstar, but he plays great hockey and deserves to be recognized for that. @Paq

Muhammad McLovin had a rough s49 and seems to be watching his career wind down before his eyes. Relegated to a depth role, it looks like he never quite became what he was hyped up to be. Hopefully in this tourney he can recapture some of his youth before he finds himself out of an SHL job. @kobel9

Justin Siddals did not play much time at all in s49. Riding the bench as the grocery stick, we will see if he makes an impact on this roster. @HenryDeLaMare

Boris Denisovich had a respectable season for the Platoon. Not an amazing player, he played a decent depth role though wasn’t as defensively sound as some would have liked. He will have to clean up his game in his own zone this tournament to really fit in with his role on this team. @Deng

Reginald MacIntyre had a great s49 on the Rage. One of the best two-way defensemen in the East, he is truly becoming a premier defenseman and will hopefully be in contention for the Stevens very soon. He will play big minutes for this squad in this tourney. @GoonerBear

Charlie Schieck has had a huge role on the Pride in recent seasons. One of the biggest mentors on a very young team, he is very important in the development of the up and coming Pride stars. They continue to build through the draft and knock on the doorsteps of the playoffs and are a big piece or two away from really contending. Schieck will be a big part of their future playoff pushes. @Grapehead

Harvey Danger is a killer offensive defenseman, perhaps one of the top in the league. Every game the Renes play is another night that Danger is a true scoring threat on the ice. Sometimes his offensive pinches lead to giving up a goal though so he has to work on knowing when to move up and when to stay back. That knowledge will come with time and more games played though. @hockeyfan

Troy McClure III has been very important for the Jets through the ups and downs of the past 5 seasons or so. A true hometown hero, he has stayed with them through thick and thin and his patience is paying off as he is one of the top players on his team now. He will continue to grow into his role as a leader on the Jets as they continue to make moves to mold themselves into a contender once again. @Troy_McClure03

Kristaps Ball had a fantastic year on the Barracuda. Playing a very clean, skill based defensive game, Ball continues to grow into a great defender as the Barracuda move more towards their contention window. We will see how Ball plays with more skilled teammates on this Sharks team. @jcfbey01

Geoff Moore had a pretty good year on the Chiefs, another team that has seen a lot of change over the recent seasons. Moore has stuck with it and along with McZehrl will be a very important piece of the defense corps for Minnesota for seasons to come. @Leppish

Geezus Kryyst is a fantastic goaltender for the Steelhawks. Unfortunately being relegated to backup due to the fantastic goaltending depth of these drafts, Kryyst has seen a revolving door of defense in front of him and still stayed strong throughout the seasons. He had a good past season despite his team coming in dead last, and hopefully the team can make use of the last upcoming years of his prime before he starts showing signs of age. @Narconis

Alternate Captain 2

Who said goalies can’t be alternate captains? If you are top 3 in tpe of your draft, you deserve recognition, even if you made the poor choice of playing in net! Kata Vilde is perhaps one of the sole reasons the Dragons didn’t have to rebuild after their early s40’s dynasty. An amazing netminder who can always be counted on the make key saves, the Dragons are safe in net for perhaps another decade with Vilde as the backstop. Fielding a team like this in front of them, Vilde is poised to put up some great numbers this tourney. @BarnabasCollins

Alternate Captain 1

Piotr Czerkawski is a true underrated talent who just broke out these last couple of seasons. Being on the wrong side of puck luck can be very discouraging, but Czerkawski’s determination has paid off as he has really bloomed into a premier forward in the SHL. As the leader of the up and coming players on the Specters, Czerkawski will play some big minutes in the coming seasons, and on this team in the tournament. Is he up to the task? @majesiu

Captain

Speaking of players who have bloomed into superstars, Flacko Lagerfield has become the face of the franchise for the Barracuda since their move to Tampa. Becoming a player who can always score in key situations and come up clutch when his team needs it, Lagerfield is on the rise to become one of, if not THE top player in the SHL. Line Speculation-
Line 1-
Lagerfield-Ralchankinov-Czerkawski

A very solid first line, these players are all offensive dynamos and if they are able to build chemistry, watch out. Lagerfield and Ralchankinov both led their teams in points in s49, and Czerkawski was second in scoring on his. This is a dangerous line and when they are on, they will be able to score on you easily. The only problem is they are mostly passers and without a shooter there may be some trouble finishing on this line.

Line 2-
Ulrich-Carter-Robert

A great second line, these guys can all put up amazing point totals. I believe Carter will play some great hockey with linemates as good as these. All of these forwards had great s49 campaigns and form a great line 1b to the first line. Robert and Ulrich will look to be the scorers on this line as Carter looks for the pass in the slot for the easy assist.

Line 3-
Kastrba-Kierkegaard-Paquette

An average third line, all of these players are good in their own zone and will be relied upon to shut down the top players of the other teams. Kastrba is very skilled in his 2-way game and will likely be able to put up some points on the third line as well.

Line 4- McLovin-Siddals-Denisovich

A good bottom line, they will all have to make sure they are defensively sound because they haven’t been the best at playing defense this past season. Siddals will be seeing ice for the first time in a while after sitting in the press box this season so other teams will look to take advantage of his time getting acquainted to SHL ice again.

Defense Pairing 1-
MacIntyre-Schieck

A solid top pairing, MacIntyre is great defensively and offensively and will be able to cover well if Schieck has an off night. Of course, Schieck will be playing with more players around his skill level than the younger guys on the Pride so perhaps we see his numbers take a turn for the better in this tournament.

Defense Pairing 2-
Danger-McClure

A stupendous second pairing to have, Danger is a great offensive defenseman but is not the best in his own zone. McClure has had some issues there as well so both of them need to remember to play back a little so they don’t get burned by an odd-man rush.

Defense Pairing 3-
Ball-Moore

This is a very stacked bottom pair. Both of these defensemen are very skilled offensively but have had their fair share of defensive lapses over the past season. They still have some kinks to work out in their game before they truly become elite defensemen in the SHL.

Backup
Geezus Kryyst

Kata Vilde is a great choice for starter seeing as they’ve been an elite goalie in the SHL for many seasons now. Geezus Kryyst is also a great choice to jump in if Vilde is struggling or they just need to shake up the lines. Both of these goalies are very talented and should feel comfortable starting games for the Sharks.
