Updates can be confusing at first but getting them right is important as it makes the updater's job easier and makes it more likely that your update doesn't get skipped.

So what goes in an update? Any tasks that you complete to earn TPE need to be linked to your update thread in order for you to apply that TPE to your player. You'll start by linking each task and, next to it, writing how much TPE was earned from the task. Then you'll add that to your total TPE count, at which point you can either bank the TPE or apply it to your attributes. Here's an example of a good update. Every time you add a task you should edit your previous post and add it to that in order to keep your updates easy to follow. When an updater replies to your update thread with "updated" it means that the changes made in your previous post have been processed, at this point you may make a new post in your update thread and continue to edit that one until you are updated again.

First link each task
+2 Uncapped TPE - Activity Check #306

Then update your TPE count and your Cap
Total Points Earned:
311 + 24 = 335
Capped TPE S52: 3/40
Capped TPE S53: 4/40

Then add TPE to your player's attributes or bank it for later
Adjusted Attributes:
+13 Speed (9 -> 11)
+2 Checking (8 -> 9)
+8 Offensive Read (10 -> 11)
+2 Strength (5 -> 7)

What is capped TPE? In your first season you don't need to worry about it since there isn't any for SMJHL rookies. Once you're drafted to the SHL point tasks will give out Capped TPE and Uncapped TPE. Uncapped TPE is unlimited and you may claim as much of it as you want each season, Capped TPE is capped at 40 TPE, once you reach that amount you may no longer claim Capped TPE for that season. You can tell which TPE is capped from the claim threads, when there's capped TPE to claim it will be specified in each specific claim post. Pay attention to the season number of the claim thread, for example a claim in the S52 claim thread applies to the S52 cap while a claim in the S53 claim thread applies to the S53 cap. Notice in the above example the 3 capped TPE from the PT in the S52 claim thread was applied to the S52 cap and the 4 capped TPE from the predictions in the S53 claim thread was applied to the S53 cap. It's important to write your cap in each update after being drafted to the SHL since failing to do so will result in your update being skipped.

When applying TPE to your player's attributes, don't forget to follow the league's update scale, this shows how much TPE it costs up upgrade to a specific attribute.

14-15 = 15 TPE

16-17 = 25 TPE

18-20 = 40 TPE

So based on this for example, it would cost 5 TPE to upgrade an attribute from 10 to 11 and then an additional 8 TPE to upgrade that attribute from 11 to 12. Let's say your puck handling is at 5 and you'd like to upgrade it to 12, it would cost you a total of 24 TPE. (1 for 5->6, 1 for 6->7, 2 for 7->8, 2 for 8->9, 5 for 9->10, 5 for 10->11, 8 for 11->12 so 1+1+2+2+5+5+8=24 TPE). Using the player builder tool can help you to better understand how the update scale works.

Finally, if you're too lazy or just in a rush, then don't worry...we have just the thing for you. You can use the SHL Update Assistant to generate a perfectly formatted update, all you need to do is enter the links to your tasks and how much TPE you earned from them.

When you hit the cap, can you no longer do any activities that award capped TPE, or can you still do it for a chance at the uncapped? For example if you were capped out, could you claim 0 Capped TPE, 10 uncapped TPE from the season predictions?

Yes, you can continue to do the tasks for uncapped TPE, just can no longer claim the capped
