I believe that we should allow Gorlab back into the league.

Now that I have your attention, allow me to reintroduce myself. My name is Bale, previously known as OJ Simpson, and this is my firm belief, to lift the ban on gorlab. My experience with dealing with this stuff comes from me being in sim leagues since 2013 and having served as Board of Directors in SBA and helping launch it, as well as being a Commissioner in the NSFL and helping it launch. I am not the most experienced with disciplining players, but I have seen a lot of people get in trouble and a lot of bans be handed out in my time. For this reason, I believe I am decently qualified to argue for the return of gorlab.

Above is the link where gorlab was banned after suspensions. His bans come from being rude, offensive, and abusive with his language. A reasonable ban after the way that he continually acted. As you can see, this is from January of 2016, 4 years ago. He was subsequently unbanned in December 2016 and banned again shortly after, if I am not mistaken. I commend the old management for taking the steps to remove the toxicity. Now with what I have presented you must be thinking, why should gorlab be unbanned? Let me explain.

History

I, unlike many, do not have a very long history with gorlab. I pretty much only know him from when I was originally in SHL for a few seasons, which was in like 2013-14. I hosted a Haxball tournament and gorlab was my teammate and we just yelled at each other even though we won a decent bit. Whatever, besides the point. I really have no large stake in this argument, but I know a little bit about gorlab from being around him a few seasons.

Ok, you don't know gorlab but you write a media saying you want him back? Why?

Honestly, I'm not exactly sure why, but I have some weird feeling that I think gorlab should have another chance. He is a stand-offish, hard-headed moron who refuses to be wrong and will die on some weird swords. But, he is also a nice guy that quite a few in the community like and he is just a pretty notorious "shit poster." He used offensive language back in the day (big part of why he was banned) and I will just say that I have no idea if he still does.

Moving to a new sim engine, I believe that this league is turning over new leaves in a lot of regards. We have relatively new leadership in the HO (albeit very good HO in my opinion) and we have a lot of new GM's and fresh blood coming in with what feels like a lot of Reddit draft people. I think that gorlab should be given a chance as well. I know that years ago he was very immature, as was I. I was probably close to as toxic in some ways and would not be proud of the way that I acted way back then. The league has aged a lot since then and I believe that with time, people like gorlab also change some. I believe that I have changed quite a bit and am somewhat liked in the league now, at least not despised. I have seen myself become better acclimated in groups in sim leagues while still being able to have some edgy humor. In the same way, I believe that gorlab may have developed some. For this reason, I believe he should be given another shot in the SHL.

I have not seen gorlab (except for like 30 seconds in a scribblio room or whatever) since I joined SBA discord server and he was very kind to me then. When I was around back in the day, VHL had the reputation of being the more "mature" sim league, and I don't know if that's still true, but I do know that gorlab is well received over there and is a thriving member.

With this in mind, I believe that the SHL could gain an active member who is excited to try FHM and somebody who a lot of people here already know and like (some don't like, next section). It is obviously not guaranteed that he will be active or likable, but I do know that he is excited to potentially try FHM and wants to give it a shot. This puts the SHL in position to gain a potentially active member, somebody who is excited about the change, and somebody who knows about the league/game.

Potential Cons

I would be an idiot to not address that there are concerns with an unban. There is a decent chance that there are people around here who would never want to give gorlab another chance. I have seen some unbans in the past where this is true, but it was completed anyways. These have usually gone well and I have even see people reintegrated themselves very well (ex: DT in SBA). There is also the chance that he hasn't change at all and says stupid stuff that is offensive and frankly crosses the line of what should and shouldn't be said. I believe these are issues, but I also believe that they can be remedied by keeping a short lease and just being willing to kick gorlab back out if he becomes a nuisance again.

All in all, I believe that gorlab was an insufferable prick back in the day for many people. I also think that people change with time and have the ability to improve. To me, the warm reception of gorlab in VHL is a good sign of his development. The benefits are a potentially active and excited member that already knows a decent number of people here. The cons are that he says something ridiculous again or acts outrageously, which could be monitored with social distancing, uh, I mean being cautious with how much he can get away with. To me the pros of considering to unban gorlab outweigh the pros of not at least thinking about it.

I don't know gorlab, but I remember his name from time when I had my first player. I was quiet user and if I knew him - that proves a lot. I think that you need to be respectful to other users and friendly, not opposite. Being rude to others is normal and if human once was rude to others, he will still be. You can change different things in you, but you can't change their attitude to other people. If it was being asshole from beginning, it will be the same till the last day. Even if it was 3 years ago. Only my opinion.

He was initially banned for sexually harassing a member. He was unbanned and then proceeded to harass other members. Aside from those issues, he was constantly instigating issues, whether he was launching personal attacks and directing slurs to other members or deleting essential league files because he wasn't selected to be a GM. This is not the only league he has been perma-banned from either. He adds nothing but negative value to sim league communities.

If we all would do bad stuff each time we got rejected from GM place or some other job, there wouldn't be no SHL no more. I think it's only normal then if he is banned. He is anyway on other simleagues and spending his time good. There are no proof that after week, SHL will not need to ban him again. How can you be so rude to others and this platform? I will not understand that...

My experience with Gorlab over on the VHL was actually pretty positive, never had any issues with him and was very nice to me. However I still don’t think he should be unbanned. He doesn’t like this place. As much as some people hate it, I feel like this league is more of a safe space than other leagues are. I feel like this league is more accepting and more open to everyone, we don’t allow the offensive or insensitive shit to take place which I think is good, it offers a better experience for everyone. See the PenKnight situation or the old TD on Slash, the community comes together to combat the kinds of toxic behavior that gorlab has a history of all the time. I don’t think that bringing back gorlab would go much differently than if someone like PenKnight truly came back.

Does Gorlab even WANT to be unbanned? Last time he "wanted" to come back he just p much told a bunch of people to fuck off for no reason. Personally i don't care either way, i never had a beef with him.

But i signed up after S20 so apparently i'm worth less than dogshit to him. :(

There are people who are banned here who probably deserve a second chance if they want to come back, but Gorlab isn't one of them. Mainly because he already had that second chance.
