S56 mPT #0 - Bold (ish) Predictions

Someone from the S53 draft class will win rookie of the year

This isn’t that bold of prediction at all. Like most players that come up in this league they have had the time to properly develop in the minors and take the full step into the pros now. This is what the juniors are all about developing players to be successful and take the next step of their careers and being successful. It goes without saying that the guys who have fully developed and are now taking that step to the pros have some of the best chances at being named Rookie of the year.

Neither expansion team will make the playoffs.

I don't think this is wrong. The first season for expansion teams are always a bit tough. I don't see any of the expansion teams making playoffs this season but I think at least one of them will reach playoffs next season.

The Nevada Battleborn will win the Four Star Cup

If you believe the above sentence, you haven't been paying attention to the SMJHL literature. They were dead last last season. To be honest, they're not even the best expansion team. this is ridiculously bold (and false) claim.

The long reign of Edmonton and Calgary is over - neither of these teams will finish the season atop the Northwest Division standings

I can't see this one happening. To me there is still a decent gap between Calgary and Edmonton and the rest of the Northwest conference. Minnesota and Winnipeg have solid rosters but still not good enough to challenge the top two.

I think everyone is underestimating Seattle. They have a good top 6 and a decent paring of top 2 defenders. Goaltending is a little suspect but we've seen what Darrow can do and how willing he is to stand on his head to keep his team in it. For Seattle I think it will come down to the coach and GM's strategy, an aggressive strat may see them sneak into the playoffs but could leave their goalie open to being made swiss cheese. Playing a Defense wins Championships strat could be beneficial but hinder the growth of their forwards. It's a tough call, but I do see Seattle making it.

Chicago will win the President's Trophy

This is not actually that bold of a take, as Chicago was a good team last year, with a lot of very good experienced players on the roster. Over the off-season, they made some good moves to acquire more top-end talent, and it looks as though they have one of the strongest rosters in the league heading into the season.

Neither expansion team will make the playoffs

This isn’t a bold prediction at all. Expansion teams have usually need a decent amount of time to find their footing. They are a haphazard collection of players thrown together because the teams they were on didn’t protect them from being taken. Sure, it can happen but the prediction that they won’t make it isn’t exactly a real bold prediction.

"Tampa Bay will not finish with the worst record this season - San Francisco will"

Are you kidding me? San Francisco just acquired Nevada Battleborn legend CHAD "EFFING" DANGER, son.
I don't care if he isn't playing this season. I don't care if he isn't playing next season. He's in your organization, so
you had better goddamn expect some goddamn goals. He'll air mail them from Nevada and they'll get delivered
to the back of the net. Anyone disagree?

There will be no major scandals during the season

I don't consider most modern-day scandals on SHL to be real major scandals but since this is SHL and there's always drama there will probably be something by the end of the season.

Disagree, both teams still stacked to make a deep run, barring a major upset, just no way one of these teams isn't playing in the final.  Sub Bold(ish) prediction, they'll be playing each other to get there.

Neither Buffalo nor Hamilton will make the Challenge Cup finals.

This is not a bold prediction. Buffalo is past it's prime and Hamilton has been considerably handcuffed with the crackdown on cheating. Chicago is the best team in the league and will destroy both of these teams.

There will be no major scandals during the season
There's approximately a 0% chance of this happening. Given how many punishments were handed out last season and the two new expansions coming into the league, there's bound to be a few scandals that pop up. Knowing that Hotdog has been learning from Ace on how to GM over the last few seasons, it seems extremely likely that he may follow in Ace's footsteps and trade off picks that he does not actually own. It should make for a fun thread in the future.

Tampa Bay will not finish with the worst record this season - San Francisco will

This is jut flat out wrong. I love the Barracuda and think they will be a dominant force in a few years, but that's where they're focused. Simply put, its going to be hard to finish worse than them and will take a big effort from SFP to do so.

somebody please make me a sig

The Nevada Battleborn will win the Four Star Cup.

Incorrect. Even though we saw in our series with Maine last season that FHM still has a lot of RNG and that teams that are pretty average can make it all the way to the finals ultimately they will fall against an actually decent team.

From the preseason sim i saw, this is actually not that bold. SF didn't had great preseason simming so its entirely possible to see them bellow Tampa bay this season
