The Disrespect of Fedor Sotakov (2x)

I was drafted in the 7th round in the SMJHL. I was happy my name was even mentioned on stream.

Hey brother, teammate, line mate, and fellow SFP prospect here. Needless to say, hoping you don’t decide to leave as your presence is pretty important to the success of my team now and in the future!

But as far as the draft goes, I get where you’re coming from. When I was drafted, I too thought I’d go a bit higher. Ended up being the first pick in the second round, thought I’d go closer to 10-14. And I too, had some discussions with teams that made me feel like I was a lock to go there. Turned out, I went to San Fran who didn’t even talk to me! The draft happens quick, and a few off the board picks can really force a team’s hand and make them make quick decisions. It’s not personal.

Recreates, I don’t think it’s so much “drafting their buddies” as you say. Most recreates, definitely a few that you’re referring to, have solid reputations as both earners and members. GMs know that they’ll be active. It’s just a safer pick for them. I know you’re a “sim noob” as you put it, but I think you’d be well served to keep an eye on your draft class. Look how many new players vs recreates go active. So many new players bail after year 2/3. I’ve even done it twice lol. The grind really begins now and lots of members find it to be tough. Recreates know what to expect, new members don’t.

Long story short brother, I love the passion, but channel it into improving your player and chalk it up as a learning experience. Don’t take the ball and go home because of a sim hockey draft, that’s honestly really meaningless. Players in your draft have been evaluated on one year of play, one which really says nothing about how their player turns out.

Go Raps/Pride

I don't think I've ever seen a thread with more strawmen and intentional mischaracterizations by one and the same person. A lot of people have taken the time to respond to your concerns at this point yet you either ignore 95% of their post and just focus on one half-sentence or you completely misunderstand what they've been saying to a point where it has to be on purpose and not just an accident that happens over and over again. I thought your original post was a controversial but ultimately fun and conversation-starting in-character media piece but the more I read through this thread, the more you are proving your detractors right and I think that the teams who passed you are already padding themselves on the back for dodging that bullet.

Okay I’m late to this and I don’t have THAT much to say that hasn’t already been said. But look.

If somebody gets a job instead of you because they have a better resume, that isn’t nepotism. And whether you like it or not, people are absolutely going to tend to favor users who have a proven track record because they are a known commodity. It is really great that your player has done so well so far!

But the truth is, any GM worth a lick is gonna be able to guide just about anybody into a good build if that person is coachable. I am proof of that. I know next to jack shit about the sim engine but every GM I’ve ever had has helped me figure out how to not suck while I keep doing my part to earn TPE and stay active.

Having a “good” player is nice - having somebody who you know will mesh well with your locker room and who has a year plus proven track record of activity is always going to trump that. It doesn’t mean they don’t want you, it just means they are usually gonna take the sure thing before they start branching out. But having good personalities and a positive atmosphere is going to keep people on your team active. It’s about the team as a unit, not you as an individual player.

It’s also worth mentioning that if you are a known quantity in a negative sense, that’s a whole other thing. There are absolutely people on here who have gotten themselves blacklisted from multiple teams due to proving that they’re toxic in some way or another.

When I got drafted, we actually had a lot of first gen players go pretty high, and I know some people were pissed about that, so somebody is always going to end up grumpy about this. Some of us from that draft class are still active, and some of us aren’t, but I don’t even play for the team that drafted me anymore. It’s nice to be able to say you were drafted high but it does absolutely nothing for you beyond that.

If you get to the SHL and you start to play great and you make yourself known as a good personality who makes a locker room better with your presence, absolutely nobody is going to care where you were drafted, I promise you. And then in two years you can recreate and shake your fist at the new kids who cut in line, or you can enjoy the benefits of having that strong resume yourself. Either way, it is not something you should take personally (but by all means feel free to let your player take it personally if it’s good for the narrative Smile )

People are here to enjoy themselves more than anything, performance matters as much as personality. If somebody is toxic to the locker room then that is gonna kill the enjoyment for other people which will make them less invested in in the site as a whole.

STFU and deal with it. Go make friends. It's all random anyways.

Got it. Moving along. I'll reevaluate my approach to this league, knowing what I know now. I will say, though, seeing the reactions from many to me calling out how the game is played has been interesting, to say the least.

Leaving me off the list eh? I hope you and I can make it two more HOFers
Here’s to hoping!

And yet you still draft them with 1st round picks.

LOL, do you want productive players in the game or buddies? I mean, If I would've heard some of the shit at the start, that I was told this week... what a game changer.

Buddies. Hands down. No contest.
