a. I personally feel that a full tear down and rebuild is more impressive than building a team through and expansion draft. It takes a lot more time and effort to draft and develop players in your system without taking any shortcuts. The expansion draft you have a chance to be good out of the gate if you select the right players. It is still a lot of work but not nearly as much as building a team from the ground up.
b. To stop Winnipegs offence your best bet is to try and double down in the goal scorers. In my opinion, you could take away the playmaker but goal scorers have enough skill to be able to find a way to score regardless. You have to respect the shooter and take away the passing option and leave the playmaker to have to shoot himself.
c. I look at these stats for Base Pack and do not think he is what you can exploit. The issue sounds to me like the Defense is allowing far too many scoring opportunities. Philadelphia needs to take advantage of the defensive lapses and the goals are bound to go in. Now this isn’t to say that Base Pack won’t steal this championship because clearly he’s carrying this team on his back.
d. I am going to take Philadelphia to win the Championship. I do think the Defense of Winnipeg is going to choke when it matters and that Philadelphias offensive prowess is going to finally get the better of Base Pack. It is going to be a great series and go the full 7 but my money is on the Forge.

Peter Tingle centred the 2nd line for the entirety of season 69. He played with a number of different wingers but spent the majority of his season with the likes of Damien Hirano and Barefoot Sugars. The chemistry between these three players was an odd one to say the least. You have two playmakers in Tingle and Hirano. Then you have Sugars who is your goal scorer. I’ve always thought one playmaker is enough per line and I do think that hurt the offensive production of this second line. Don’t get me wrong, they all had very respectable numbers but they could have been much more of a force if one of Tingle or Hirano had been more of a scorer rather than playmaker. Where this line exceeded and had the most chemistry was on the defensive side of the puck. All three players take pride in their defensive games but I don’t think it’s enough to keep them as a trio going forward.

Something new and excited happened recently to one of my kids. My oldest got accepted to go on an “Ultimate Science Trip” which is in Florida. He’s going to be there for 10 days and gets the opportunity to go to a lot of really cool places. He gets to visit the Kennedy Space Centre (NASA), go to Disney World, wildlife exhibits, etc. It is a once in a life time experience for a 13 year old kid and I am super proud that he got chosen to be apart of this experience. It really proves to himself that he gets rewarded for the hard work he puts in at school.

If there was anyone on your team you don't play with but you'd like to, who is it? Why? If you're a goalie, tell me about your bond with your goaltending partner!
Vaseline Podcalzone's linemates this season were primarily Max Manning at centre, with William Salming covering the other wing. This group certainly would have their fair share of chemistry in it, with Salming and Podz having basically played every single game of their respective careers together (outside of the realm of International Simulation Hockey), and their playstyles on the flanks are certainly helped with Manning's electric offensive play. Salming is an outstanding play distributor, threading the puck to his linemates. Manning does it all: goals, assists, just about everything well. Everyone on the line tends to give it their all on the defensive game as well. Salming has an incredible two-way game and does not shy away from blocking shots. Podz is also very much eager to lay down the body with a little bit of physicality on some checks. This is probably the dream line for Podz, and it's pretty clear given the on-ice results just how damn well these guys can do together.

Last season I loved the anthropormorphic boats vs. bulls question because people came up with some really fun answers to read, so I'm going to ask it again with the Forge and the Aurora, even though these teams' have less concrete branding. Tell me who wins in a fight: an enormous god bear made of colourful rays of light, or a massive magma monster with a giant hammer. The arena and the rules of the fight can be whatever you desire. Get creative!
So, in one corner of the ring (let us assume that this fight will take place in a boxing ring, for some reason), we have a polar bear that has been blessed with the power of the sun, and can emit solar power never imagined before. On the other end, we have what I want to imagine being like the Pokemon Grimer, that is made out of magma instead of... I wanna say raw sewage is what Muk and Grimer are made out of in the game Pokemon. Anyhow, you get the idea.
There are several things to consider here. Solar power is immense. On a level never before seen before, since this sun god bear has already breached the o-zone layer. However, magma is basically pure heat in itself. Dousing it with solar power will only make it stronger. In terms of the hammer though, I suppose that with immense levels of radiation, that hammer could be disintegrated. I am not too sure about the science relating to magma and if it would disintegrate. If anything, I could see it getting stronger from the heat. The only downside is that the sun god bear has range in its attacks, while... if the magma monster could throw its hammer, and if the hammer is powered up, then that could cause some whopping damage.
To be honest, I think this might be a draw.

The ocean wants a voice! If you had to make an IIHF hockey team out of ocean critters, which ones would be the best for a hockey team and why? Build your team with the intent to win! You aren't just there for fun! I want a tactical analysis of the ice hockey ability of sea creatures!
Well, let's begin with what we know of from past knowledge and literature. A turtle can play ice hockey. Pasta the Turtle is an absolute legend, and will captain this team to the promised lands. We can recruit a blueline of turtles and they will all dominate. I mean, Master Oogway is enough proof of the absolute awesomeness of turtles. There need not be more to say.
In terms of other sea critters, it'll be interesting to consider the circumstances. A massive blue whale would make for an intriguing case, but it might not fit into the dimensions of a conventional ice rink. An orca whale, on the other hand, just might be something that we can work with.
Otters could be really adorable, but at the same time, we've definitely seen otters in the SHL before. They could easily slot into the lineup in some fashion. Getting a goaltender would be tricky, however. I'd reckon that our best bet would be to put a whale in net, or maybe an octopus. Those guys are very much deceptive, and have personalities reminiscent of goalies.

Were the playoffs as you expected this year, or were there some surprises? Is it exciting to have two completely new teams meet in the finals? What did you like or not like about this season?
The playoffs certainly were not what I expected. My overall expectation was that whichever team made it out of the West would ultimately be crowned as champions. Although I absolutely wanted the Argos to get a 3-peat, I guess when thinking about the league as a whole, it might be seen as a little bit refreshing to get two new teams into the championship finals.
Overall, I'd say that this season was pretty chill. The Argos still had a really damn good regular season, as well as a deep playoff run. I really can't complain, especially with Podz still holding his own despite having to go through another regression over the off-season.

Not too many big things that happened recently. One small thing that was a small win happened about a few days ago, I stayed up late at night just catching up and chatting on a voice call with some close friends from high school. It definitely was a very positive experience. All things considered, I'm really glad that even after being done with high school, we still keep in touch and call on basically a weekly basis, and exchange messages on nearly a daily basis. Well this season my D partner was the electric Neal Newland. For Newland this was his fourth season in the SMJHL and though he hadn't had a lot of statistical success he was still able to give me a ton of pointers that helped me improve this season. We were able to make each other better defensemen throughout the course of the season and we both posted career highs in multiple stats. On the penalty kill my D partner was none other than Matt Ox. Ox is a monster on defense and since we were partners a lot of the time during our rookie campaigns we were able to use that previously established chemistry to our advantage and really make a difference in Great Falls' penalty kill this season. Our penalty kill % went up over 10% from 71% last season to 82% this season and I would like to believe that me and Ox are two of the biggest reasons why.

To be completely honest, I'm happy Philly won. They quite literally have been the Toronto Maple Leafs of the SHL since their inception in that they have failed to make it past the first round until this very season. After finally breaking the curse of the first round they rode that momentum all the way to the finals and were able to bring it home. That's the kind of magic I want to see in my SHL playoffs and even though I didn't watch or pay close attention, going to the index and seeing that happen is honestly pretty exciting. It goes to show that any team can succeed with a little luck, and I like that.

Oskar had a terrific season this year. He avoided the sophomore slump and managed to shatter the totals he set in his rookie season. His 25 goals led all Anchorage players and his 53 points tied for the most on the team with Regazzoni. This is in large part thanks to his linemates Connor McKeil and Georg N'Zola. Oskar is a net front presence and crease disturber by trade, but McKeil and N'Zola are big time playmakers. Oskar tweaked his game and put more of a focus on getting open and taking high volume shots this season and it paid off. Not only did he lead the team in goals as previously mentioned, but he also led the team in shots by a significant margin. He was the only boat to take over 200 shots and his 226 shots were 31 more than the next closest teammate. One area the 3 need to work on for next season is their defensive play. All three were in the red having more giveaways than takeaways and two of them finished with a negative plus/minus. If they can keep the offense up and clean up their defensive play the Armada are in for a good season next year!

Write your predictions for this year's IIHF tournament or WJC! Tell me about your team! What are your expectations for your player? What teams are you watching out for this time around? Did last season's results surprise you?
I didn't quite make the cut to support Germany in the IIHF this season, which honestly is kind of a good thing. Firstly it means we have a competitive group where a sub 400 TPE player doesn't crack the line up in his second season. We have depth. Secondly it means I get to return to team DACH, or should I say team Rhine! Coming off yet another gold medal performance the combined forces of Germany, Switzerland and Austria look to make it 5 in a row, but this time they'll be doing it with their french counterpart in the fold and the latest IIHF national team! Sadly we loose our Austrian friends and with them a good chunk of our roster, but it'll make the gold that much sweeter if we manage to claw our way back to the finals again. I certainly see us being competitive and getting a medal, although a gold might not be in the cards this year with a significantly different roster. Go big or go home though right? Rhine will win gold again.

Is it because you're both always duking it out at the bottom of the standings? How did this rivalry come to be?
I feel the easy answer here is the rivalry between team Canada and team USA, although as a member of team Germany, and previously Norway on my last player, I actually don't know if a rivalry between Canada and USA exists in our IIHF. As a member of Germany in the early to mid S30's USA was always a team that we circled on our calendars. They were one of our top competitions for medals each season and several times they defeated us in the gold medal game. As a member of team Norway we weren't overly competitive, but it was always nice to secure a win against the other Scandinavian teams like Sweden and Finland, especially because they're known as bigger hockey powerhouses than us lil Norwegians. With my current player as a member of team Germany once again I think our biggest rival is likely Finland seeing as they bumped us out in the second round enroute to the gold medal game. They ultimately lost to Sweden last year, but as the second best team in the round robin stage we liked our chances of securing a medal.

Yes and no I'd say. I agree it's nice to see some new blood in the finals and although I did have the Winnipeg Aurora making it to the finals, my prediction was ultimately incorrect as I had them winning the whole thing. Philly on the other hand came as quite a surprise to me, but a good one. It's nice to see a newer team win the thing and while Philadelphia wasn't the favorite in the east they were certainly a strong contender with a 45-16-5 record in the regular season. As an SMJHL player I wasn't too invested in the SHL this season, but I look forward to dipping my toe in the water soon with the San Francisco Pride.

Aww, this is nice. I recently volunteered as a judge at a middle school science fair. Going in I figured it would be a bit of a drag and a poor use of my Sunday, especially after driving for 10+ hours the day before, but it turned out to be a lot of fun. It was cool to see the amount of effort (or sometimes lack thereof) from each group and the excitement when their experiment worked. The second half was a "mystery" project that they didn't know about until it was go time. It was interesting to watch how teams solved each problem and worked together to tackle the goal. They also hooked us up with a free pizza lunch which is always an easy way to brighten my day.

a. Both Winnipeg and Philadelphia have taken the long road of drafting and development to find themselves in the Challenge Cup Finals. Winnipeg in full scale rebuild, and Philadelphia in the expansion draft. Each began nearly 10 seasons ago. From your point of view, which build is more impressive? Full scale teardown to challenge cup, or expansion draft to challenge cup?
b. Winnipeg's Mikko Rashford has been an unstoppable assist machine with 25 in 20 GP. If you're looking to shut down Winnipegs offense, who do you target? Rashford, or goal scorers surrounding them? Do you double down on guarding the scorers and letting a pass-first player take a shot, or do you go heavy on the passer and hope nothing squeeks through?
c. Philadelphia's BASE PACK has made over 500 saves in 17 GP. If you're a Winnipeg team looking for a weakness to exploit, do you think this is one? Does this signify an exhausted goalie that you can pepper with shots and eventually break the dam? Or is BASE PACK just an on-fire goalie that you need to find another way around?
d. As always I ask... who you got? Usually when I analyze teams for this segment I see a contrast in results or deployment or something I can latch on to, but these look like remarkably similar teams at this point in the playoffs. So who wins? Why?
a. A full scale rebuild vs an expansion team and which is a more accomplished feat is a hard thing to quantify. For starters, Winnipeg went through a rebrand, but still had the storied past. Then Philly comes in with an expansion draft, a few key FA additions, and good drafting. When you try to build a good team, it all comes down to the locker room. In this case, Philly won.
b. To shut down Mikko Rashford is a simple thing to do. Take away all the passing lanes and let give him one on ones with the goalie. If he can't pass, he's forced to shoot. When he shoots, it's a pure gamble. So leave it to be for the Philly Goalie to go one on one with a clear shot, and the goalie will get it 99% of the time.
c. When you have that many shots against you, in such a short amount of time, and the adrenaline that comes along with it, you can't stop that goalie. They're on a historic run and got hot at exactly the right time. Instead, you try and wear down the defense even further and get better quality chances.
d. Well, on paper Winnipeg should have won. 200 tpe stronger than Philly, a good core group. But, Philly had the luck of the sim gods (with some help), this playoff run. The right players got hot, and that was it. So as much as Winnipeg should have won, you can't argue with momentum.

Bear god who is made of light, or a magma monster with a giant hammer. Well, this one has to take place on a planet with a decent amount of gravity, otherwise both forces wouldn't be able to compete. But how do you fight light with fire? is that even possible? Let's take a deeper look into it. Visible light is electromagnetic radiation that can be perceived by the human eye. To take that even further, can the bear harness the power of light? If so, there's many ways that the bear could potentially harm another god like monster. Light below infrared, a microwave, could cook the insides of a normal person. But will that affect magma in the same way? Likewise, can the power of a magma forge hammer disrupt light enough that it breaks up the particles. How fast does that light radiation come back together and "heal" the bear god? This seems like an unwinnable battle for either side. But, as my name suggests, I'll be rooting for the bear. And when it's all said and done, I'll be wearing it.

To say this post season was a crazy one is an understatement. Philly was down 3-1 to MAN in the first round. It looked like, yet again, that Philly was going to have a 1st round exit, much like the real life Leafs. However, luck struck. A sim error! HO saved Philly's post season hopes and dreams. Re-sim happens. Philly goes on the run of a life time at that point. Sails past Man (who, let's face it, were having the sim luck of their dreams with a 500 tpe goalie), puts up a good challenge against ATL and wins it in 7, swept New England to make it to the finals. Only to have their dreams come true in the only season that really matter. Season 69 (nice)
