When I vote for the Sarmad Khan award every year, I have a specific process that I always follow. I open the index and sort by plus minus. I look at that column and then follow it down until I find someone who has a high number of points as well as a high plus minus. This year, it looks like Levin Schattenaxt will be my likely vote fore the Sarmad Khan award. That said, I will have to weigh the extra two points in plus minus against Logan Webb's 14 extra points. It is rare for the league point getter to be so far ahead of the next person with plus minus, so it will likely go to the obvious candidate this year at least on my ballot. That said, goalies seemed to have a pretty solid year this season, so I may look into some combination of wins, goals against, and save percentage. I do also try to take a brief look at the advanced stats as well.
Ozolins, at first, thought of reversing the standings so that we wouldn't have a threepeat in the SHL, considering San Fran was in the top of the West Conference, but then he remembered he might be **on** that team, attempting to threepeat. Sure, he loves to see different people win, but that's if he's out of the playoffs by then. He's not above 3 consecutive cups, come on now! So, what could he change about the rules, to instead stop a Quebec City threepeat? He’d just ban the french (and quebecois). Instantly, the entirety of Quebec City gets zapped away, leaving only… Vancouver, Kelowna and Newfoundland to divide and conquer the North division. Isn’t that everyone’s dreams? Finally, a new title and cup winner in the SMJHL! Until Kelowna starts racking up the titles once again, as it was prophesied in the old times. So maybe he should simply prevent every SMJHL player from being good unless they’re on Vancouver? Decisions, decisions. Edzy is not paid enough to think about stuff, he’s just supposed to hit, pass, score.
The new rules that I have come up with for the playoffs is called the Blades of steel rule, when two players enter into a fight the winning team gets a power play this encourages a more violent but also a more calculated game, when to fight and who to fight and encourages teams to get some big fighters to ensure they have the best chance at getting a better chance for a goal, and as fighting takes a lot of of the players the teams would have less potential for multiple championships in a row as well as make sure everyone gets to see some amazing fights
And if goalies fight the winners get a 2 man advantage but it's only allowed once per series
Justin Time should by and far take home the MVP for this season. Many may dismiss Time's amazing season, due to being on the President's Trophy team. And while a stacked lineup does make goaltending easier, it doesn't magically pad a goalie's stats. Justin lead the league in save percentage at 0.923, a sizeable gap of .005 over the next best goalie. He also had the lowest goals against average in the league at 2.54, narrowly beating out 2nd place, but with a 0.40+ gap over the rest of the league. Justin also tied for 1st in shutouts with 5. And it wasn't like Justin wasn't getting tested, Time had the 5th most saves in league this season. But even if all of that can be attributed to the team in front of Justin, the one stat that can't be attributed to anyone except him is Goals Saved Above Average. Not only did Time lead the league, by a whopping 19.25 goals, but also, when compared to NHL greats, would be in the top 20 ALL TIME in single season GSAA. Justin simply stood on his head all season, and it was because of Justin that San Fran did so well, not the other way around. Justin Time should take home the Sarmad Khan this season.
Of all the players this season that have stood out for their contributions, the player that has probably meant the most to their team’s success this season has to be Henri Losanov of the Seattle Argonauts. At the head of a very strong team, Song nonetheless started for 31 wins, one of the only goalies to do so with an under 3.2 goals-against average (3.18) and a .908 save percentage, Losanov was crucial to the Argos’ run to 40 wins and the third seed in the SHL’s Western Conference. Despite giving them a fight, Losanov could not hold out against the best team in the SHL, the Pride, but Losanov was crucial in the effort, with a stellar 7 wins and a .912 save percentage through 13 appearances in the playoffs this year. That contribution aside (this is a regular season award after all), the star goalie’s contributions to a young team with an offense-first mindset should be lauded for their effort this year.
Written Option 2:
Personally I think the MVP rules are good the way they are right now and also I like the voting system for the Sarmad Khan is pretty fun and lets every players voice heard for an MVP. Personally my pick for MVP once again is Jae-ik Barron. Barron won MVP last season and he has made a big difference for this Atlanta team turning them from a good team into a big time cup contenders and two consecutive 100+ point seasons has turned him in a boneified superstar. He started off slow this season but as the season went along Barron Caught fire and started scoring at an elite level being top 5 in scoring with 100 points and top 10 in goals with 41. his production is hitting a all time high as he is entering his prime and I don't think his production will stop here anytime soon as he is just in his 10th season in the league.
So there are quite a few rule changes Heta would make in the league to make playoffs more exciting. Firstly each team will play against their rivals in the playoffs in round one (if both respective teams made the cut), this will generate an exciting game for the fans and keep them on the edge of their seats while the players will have nothing else on their mind but to beat the opposing team (as they really should with any team but still). the second rule change would be that wildcard teams must play against their rival teams to decide whether they will make the cut for playoffs or not, this will allow for an exciting (or sometimes frustrating) game for the fans to watch. The last rule change I would make is there is no penalty for slight misconducts. My reasoning behind this is that the playoffs are a high stress environment for the players, I highly doubt a lot of the conducts are purposeful. and they really hurt their own teams during a 4v5, consequently removing penalties for 2 minute misconducts will be removed, perhaps this may encourage misconduct related actions towards opposing players however this will create for a more fun match to watch.
Written Option 1: Well, this is written after ACC was knocked out, but honestly the playoffs as a whole have been insane. Gwendolyn legitimately wouldn't know how to make a single change that would throw the playoffs into further chaos. STL (TWICE), DET, VAN, and KEL all upset teams right now. The northern conference was an absolute bloodbath with the top four teams battling it out in the quarter finals. The strongest team on paper, NL, gets knocked out. The playoffs are contentious and some of the most exciting in ages. Legitimately, how do you make it more exciting than the third worst team making it to the semi finals and beating the best southern team on paper? How about the last team to defeat QCC in the playoffs doing it AGAIN after the B2B? Ultimately, Gwendolyn would probably do something that made an STL cup easier for the simple fact that it'd be really funny to have a disparity like that.
I think assists are a better metric for judging the usefulness of a player to their team than goals are, so let's look at a couple of players with a higher assist ratio than Webb: Ubba Lodbrok, Shadow Fenix, and Jae-ik Barron. Obviously, these players are all at the top of the points list right behind Webb, but they all have significantly higher assist ratios. Webb's is 53.7%, while Fenix is at 59.2%, Barron at a round 59%, and Lodbrok at a whopping 63.4%. But all of these are over 50%, you may say! And, yes, that is true. But what we have here is an indicator of how often a player creates or sees opportunities for their teammates, which is arguably more important than being able to just get out there and score the goals yourself. Among those three players, Barron put up the most game winning goals at 6 in the course of the season, which is more than even Webb pulled off, so the clutch factor is there. Therefore, my pick would be Jae-ik Barron.
Written Option 1: So, we have already seen back to back cups in both leagues and the same teams are once again one of the top competitors. So it happens that your player gets randomly selected to mix things up. They get to make any rule changes to the game for these playoffs to try ensure that we get the most unpredictable and exiting playoffs. What changes do the do? Are they trying to just create chaos or maybe trying to tune the rules to benefit their own team? How far would they push things, does it even look like hockey anymore after they are done? Would we still see three-peats in both leagues?
I think it’s fair to say that everyone’s done watching San Francisco win the championship. It would be nice to be able to figure out a way to stop the juggernaut that is the San Francisco Pride. So, my rule change would be a pretty simple one, teams are no longer allowed to play their best players on the third line. If you play players on the third line, they cannot have more ice time than anybody on the second line and nobody on the second line can have more ice time than anybody on the first line. It really is pretty silly that we’re allowing teams to game the system so to speak by guaranteeing that their best players play against the other team’s worst players. I understand that that’s a strategy that teams have the ability to use when they have home advantage however this is something that has definitely become the norm in the SHL and I don’t think it’s best for the league to continue to allow this.

S61 Four Star Cup - Game-Winning Goal in the clinching Game 4
Mix it up? I think I would try to add more fights to the game and make it a lot more physical. See if we can bring scoring down or change scoring by making things harder for the highly skilled teams. It might be fun to force each team to run an enforcer, a goon, and a shadow. So teams would have to try and do new things with their lines. Could be cool to just outright ban a role, like Gretzkys office or Dangler. This would definitely change things up, but who knows if it's for the better or the worse. Could make the top teams even stronger or completely make a team who might not be super competitive really good. Would at least be interesting to see the chaos of it all. Other than that, I don't know what else would be really fun to make a stupid rule about, so let's just try that and see if we can make it work.
to make things up to give the top team a harder chance of winning there would be a couple of rules and roster changes that I would enforce. Everyone knows San Francisco has the highest TP roster well now it would take your team average TPE so 2000 TPE minus team average TPE that would be your teams new average. San Francisco averages around 1600 TP per team so I make their new team average 400 TP. That would put them on pace with a junior team. From there we would make all stats minus from 20 so a lot of their top players would have 17 and 18 which would now be dropped down to threes and twos. Teams with lower team and team stats a better chance of beating San Francisco in the playoffs. Aside from adjusting TPE we would add more RNG to each game, each. The team with the lowest TPE would roll the dice with a 5 to 10 on how many shots they would get period. The team with the highest five how many shots would get, this once again, give the team the lowest TP the best chance of winning.
190+ (voice to texted this on my phone while in bed lmao)
Logan Webb is most likely going to be the clear cut choice for the sarmad Khan trophy and he is the player who I predict will end up winning because of his prowess in points production while also landing some great hits. But if I had to choose another player other than Webb, it would have to be none other than Ubba Lodbrok. I mean this dude was able to amass more than 100 points while killing it defensively as well. He has 70 shot blocks and 85 takeaways. He is basically a two way beast and also came super clutch for Philadelphia Forge in many occasions. Only thing he may need to work on is his discipline as he did rack up 89 penalty minutes. What he does better than Webb is definitely defensively. Webb had only 26 shot blocks and had more giveaways than takeaways so in a sense he was a liability. But Lodbrok was just defensively overwhelming to his opponents. That is why I think he is a great shout to win the Sarmad Khan Trophy.
Artturi Lappalainen is not the best player to have been chosen for this task. In fact, he sucks at making decisions. However, his New Orleans Specters have finally made it to the Western Conference Finals. This means that he needs to turn everything as much in his team's favor as much as he possibly can. Unfortunately, most things that would heavily lean things on the Specters' side of the ice would be downright lame or just plain overused. So what's his plan? Any team that is represented by an animal, fictional or otherwise, in the league is not allowed to use any team facilities to train, go to the bathroom, or anything like that. All they get is the pre-game warmup and either have to practice at home or somewhere else and they need to be absolute certain that they do their business before showing up to any game. Good luck getting through a full series when you can't release the kraken! Of course, this rule doesn't affect the Specters -- they're ghosts, baby!
