A thrilling battle of the goaltenders ended with a late goal as the Colorado Raptors steal a win from the Anchorage Armada. Both Ian Venables and Emiko Spektor shined in a battle between first and second place.

FIRST PERIOD

Nothing much happened until 4:56 into the period when Raptors center Bo Kane was penalized on a double minor for slashing. Yet the Armada could do nothing on the power play. Stavros Halkias came close to a goal, deflecting a Gabe Johnson shot onto the Raptors net with 12 seconds left on the power play, but Emiko Spektor made a great save to deny him. Halkias seemed to be steaming after that miss, and would absolutely light up Ja’aj Coitus-Wagg late in the period. 17 Armada shots in the period. All either saved by Spektor or missed the net entirely. Meanwhile, the Raptors only had 3 shots, barely testing Ian Venables, who looked strong in between the pipes for the Armada. Colorado had been bailed out by their goalie, and that’s a trend that would continue throughout the game.

SECOND PERIOD

Colorado started the period off on the right foot, with a Henrik Lekberg Osterman shot saved by Venables two minutes in. Venables coughed up a rebound only for Vorian Atreides to miss the net. Anchorage went back to dominating play, with three straight Daniel Bischoff shots missing the net, until a hit from Georgy Gorbachenko seemed to turn the tide. That positive play seemed to be curtailed when Anthony Archer was sent to the box with 10:44 left in the period, but the Raptors did a fantastic job of killing it off, and right after it ended, First-Name Last-Name received a pass from Derek Bohne Jr., skated up the ice, and beat Ian Venables to give the Raptors a 1-0 lead. The teams continued to trade shots until the period ended. Colorado outshot Anchorage 9 to 6, and scored the lone goal of the period.

THIRD PERIOD

Anchorage were on a mission to get one back in the third period, and pelted Emiko Spektor with a continuous barrage of shots early in the period. But Daniel Bischoff, Augustus Wang, Spencer MacLean, Stavros Halkias, and Jake Primeau were all turned away or missed the net entirely. Seven minutes in, Joe Kerr, Berry Blue, and MacLean all fired on target, only to see Spektor make a string of fantastic saves. The game continued to be an exciting, back-and-forth affair until the final whistle, as Jake Primeau was denied by Spektor with 12 seconds left. Anchorage outshot Colorado again, 11 to 8, but had no goal to show for it as a lack of finishing cost the Armada dearly. The final score from Alaska was Armada 0, Raptors 1.

THREE STARS

1. Emiko Spektor Raptors
2. Derek Bohne Jr. Raptors
3. First-Name Last-Name Raptors

KEY PLAYER

Emiko Spektor won the first star, and it was well deserved, as she kept the Raptors both in the game and in the lead with some fantastic saves. Without her between the pipes, Anchorage would’ve had a field day, as they produced 34 shots in the game compared to Colorado’s 20. The Raptors should be thanking their lucky stars that Spektor played so well.

The Anchorage Armada started this period looking like the sure-fire winner of the game when they managed to put 17 shots on Emiko Spector of the Colorado Raptors and limiting his team to only 3 shots against. However, the tides turned quick when one of the 9 shots on Ian Venables managed to squeeze by and put the raptors ahead by one point while their own 6 shots in the period didn’t manage to do any damage. They tried to come back in the game in the third, putting 11 shots on the Colorado raptors netminder but didn’t manage to score. On their hand, the Raptors put on 8 shots on the Armada but didn’t manage to score either, finishing the game 1-0.

Three Stars, One Team

It was a good night for the raptors players, who ended up getting all of the three star spots. Emiko Spector really led it all with a great performance in goal, and it just effected the rest of the team. Spector won the game for Colorado, you could say, and that's why they were the first star. There was some inspiring defense from Derek Bohne jr, who got the assist on the first goal for Colorado and got the momentum going, all around being really helpful with everything. And then of course First-Name Last-Name earned the nod by scoring said first goal, a really great shot and smart thinking to beat the goalie. All around a team effort that was really strong.

What an important match this was for the two teams. These two fought out in a heavy duty warfare during the s49 playoffs where each team shed blood and tears. Unfortunately for the Raptors, they were eliminated in the first round of the series. Thus, you can expect that this match was once again going to be an intense rivalry. This was clearly demonstrated by Anchorage Armada, who were firing a barrage of shots at the Raptors. In fact, they fired 17 shots at the Raptors where as Colorado only took a lousy 3 shots at them. Colorado was completely on the defensive side during the first period but that didn't stop Emiko spector from putting on a show. He was like the great wall of china protecting his entire team single handedly. Emiko is a freak of nature as he hails from Japan standing at 6'5". This is almost unheard of in that country and it just shows how abnormally talented he was in that country. Exactly why he fits the description of the great wall. His competitor is no slouch either. Ian Venables is the name and he is a Canadian born goaltender. He is also tall, standing at 6'3". The game ended with Emiko making an astonishing name for himself by making 34 saves and claiming first star of the game. Ian Venables also did well as he only let in one goal. You can expect that the next time these two face, it will once again be a hard fought out war.

Defensive 3 Stars
1- Derek Bohne Jr. : Bohne needed some rest after this game. When you punish your body that much in a game it's a great feeling walking away with a win. After 5 hits and 2 blocks, it was a well deserved win.
2- Daniel Kuster: Breaking 20 minutes of icetime this game, it's no surprise that Kuster was able to put up 3 hits and a shot block.
3- Stavros Halkias: A valiant effort by Halkias here as he put up 2 blocks and 2 hits, unfortunately his team could not muster the offense to win this game
