Player of the Game

Herb Robert- 2 goals, 1 assist, +2, 7 shots

Robert gave the Sharks a ton of momentum by scoring the opening goal 21 seconds into the game. He also scored an insurance marker making it 4-2 late in the second. Though he wasn’t able to put it past Booth in the shootout, he had a great game and was all over the scoresheet. The Sharks have their first win due to a huge performance by Robert.

Takeaways

Regiment- They went down early which is never a good sign, but were able to claw back with 2 clutch goals in the 3rd to at least get a point out of this one. They didn’t take many penalties which is a plus but they surrendered a PP goal on 1 of 2 penalty kills. They scored once on the powerplay to bring it to overtime, and they just got unlucky in the shootout where anything goes. The pieces are all there for the Regiment, they just need to execute on their game plan.

Sharks- The Sharks dominated the game from the start with 2 quick goals by 5 minutes into the game, and outshot their opponents 38 to 23. A great showing from the Sharks, they blew a two goal lead but were able to finish it out in the shootout. The defense chipped in offensively and they were mostly disciplined through the game. Great first win for the Sharks and hopefully they can use this momentum going forward.

Player of the Game

Samuel Michaud- 1 goal, 1 assist, +2, 2 shots

Michaud opened the scoring for the Covenant and set the tone of the game. He also assisted on the empty netter to ice the game, and was playing both a stellar defensive game and a dynamic offensive game. Michaud is looking like a gem on this undefeated team.

Takeaways

Covenant- Another terrific game for the young squad. They didn’t score on the powerplay but didn’t need to as their 5on5 scoring is good enough to win games. They only took 2 penalties and stayed out of the box, preventing the Young Guns from having a chance to really get into this game. 17 shots in the third means you are mostly in the offensive zone, far away from your net and the other team has practically no chance to score on you.

Young Guns- This was a better showing than the previous ones but still led to the same result. They were shorthanded 5 times which is a little too much for my liking and amounted 3 shots in the third while down by one. Del Vecchio was the only bright spot in this game, only surrendering 1 goal on 17 shots in the third. They need to keep improving if they have any chance of climbing out of this hole.

Game 3- Eagles vs Cyclones

Player of the Game

Anders Christiansen- 3 assists, 2 PPP, 1 hit, 3:46 powerplay minutes

Christiansen continues his tear as that powerplay unit just clicks so well. Assisting on McGavin’s opening goal just 1 minute in, as well as the insurance marker 5 minutes later, Christiansen is making amazing passing plays that just find the back of the net. He is one of the hottest players in the tourney at the moment and he will get big minutes with the Cyclones from now on.

Takeaways

Cyclones- A textbook win for the squad. Score 2 goals in the first, 3 out of 6 on the PP, 100% PK and Tuck had an amazing game as well. These guys built great chemistry this game and worked hard for the win against a tough Eagles squad. They can boast that they are 2-0 against the likes of Mike Izzy and other superstars.

Eagles- A tough game for the squad coming off a win, they gave up a back-breaking early goal and never really got into the game. Joe K tried his hardest and ruined Tuck’s shoutout but they were being outmatched badly. What really doomed them this game was their 50% PK, giving up 3 goals. If they didn’t give up that goal a minute in this could be a different game.

Player of the Game

Austin Roenick- 3 assists, 1 SHP, +3, 5:56 PK minutes

Roenick continues his excellence by having himself a 3 point night, complete with 2 even strength assists and a shorthanded assist to top it all off. A dominant force for this Greyhounds team, he schooled the Fury tonight and looked like the best player on the ice all night.

Takeaways

Greyhounds- A perfectly executed game, scoring early to take control of the game. They survived a flurry of offense in the third with the help of a red hot Carpet. They were 0 for 5 on the powerplay but made up for it by scoring a shorthanded goal while being perfect on the penalty kill. They kept the offense coming against the Fury and chased Cain to seal the deal on their victory.

Fury- Giving up a goal before the 2 minute mark is never a good start, and the Fury just never got settled in this game. Always on their heels until the third, it was too late to do any damage as Carpet stopped all 15 of their shots. It was a 2-1 game going into the third until the Greyhounds scored a quick goal and then another quick shorthanded goal to break the hearts of the entire Fury team. They will look to bounce back from this and forget this night ever happened.

Thanks for tuning in to the first sim! Hopefully reading this will give you some hype for the next set of games. These will likely become less verbose as I run out of steam but who knows, I have a lot of hours at work over the coming days.

Okay, I'll be the wet blanket.

Not including "rest days" there are 90 days in the sim schedule for this tournament. That is 180 media posts if each one gets a preview and a review. That is literally nine whole-ass forum pages worth of media.

Surely we can find a more reasonable, condensed way to post this material that won't completely overwhelm the media section and bury any contributions anyone else hopes to make this offseason.

I feel like there is an acceptable compromise where you can still get much-deserved exposure for a tournament you've clearly put a lot of time into building without 180 MEDIA POSTS AND THAT'S BEFORE WE EVEN GET TO THE PLAYOFFS, I'M ASSUMING THIS THING HAS A PLAYOFF AFTER ALL, but I'm also a dumbass so maybe that's the issue.
