We are once again participating in a cross-league charity event you may have already heard about in a couple of the other leagues!
We're doing this a little differently than in years past, in that each league is driving for their own chosen charity, since we all had some causes that were very important to us this season, so be sure to check out the event going on in our affiliate leagues!
WHO WE ARE SUPPORTING?
To put it bluntly, this year has been absolute garbage for trans communities. Anti-trans rhetoric seems and feels louder than ever worldwide, and in the United States there has been a terrifyingly massive surge in anti-trans legislation. These bills range from denying transgender folks access to things like healthcare, education, and sports, and even go so far as to try taking away the right to openly exist as a trans kid. 2023 has already reached the point where there are more bills targeting transgender people this year than in the last five years combined.
For this charity event, we have chosen to support Trans Lifeline (translifeline.org). As a community that is committed to being a safe space in a (simulation) sport whose real life counterpart isn't nearly as inclusive and welcoming as it should be, it is important for us to reiterate that once again. Run by trans people, for trans people, Trans Lifeline serves the US and Canada in English and Spanish, providing support and microgrants to the trans community since 2014. They have seen an unprecedented rise in demand for their services, and we aim to support them in their endeavour from our little corner of the internet.

AND
Last charity drive, we had a number of users in other locations around the world ask for a charity option that would be local/tax relevant for them, and I am trying to do my homework ahead of time this year to find a good alternative for that. I have had a couple of folks offer suggestions, but after some discussions, I've realized that I am not qualified to find a charity in every single country that a user on this website could possibly be located in, so I will be taking suggestions over the next couple of weeks as well. In short, we want this to benefit LGBTQ+ people (with a particular emphasis on assisting the transgender community if possible) - if you know of a local charity that fits that bill and you would like to offer that up as a suggestion, please let me know!
WHAT'S THE TIMELINE?
We will be using the charity sub-section of the site which will once more serve as a landing spot for all of the information, auctions, and other charity-related topics. When the time comes, that will again be home to the auction threads, as well as the main charity thread (which will have all the rest of the info you might need, including donation links and items for instant purchase).
The drive itself will begin Monday, September 18th, and will wrap up Monday, October 2nd.
WHAT TO DO RIGHT NOW?
As in past years, we will have some league-wide donation incentives, including prizes that will be raffled off. In addition to that, though, we will also be having auctions! If you’ve participated in a charity drive in any of the other leagues before, you’re probably already familiar with this, but we will be taking “donations” in the form of things you’d like to auction off for other users to bid on. (Some examples might include player signatures, guest appearances on podcasts, media articles on a chosen topic, the name of your team’s arena, etc. We encourage you to get creative with it!) We hope that these auctions will give everybody the chance to participate even if they aren’t able to contribute financially.
If you have something you think would be cool to auction off, please reach out to me on Discord (jessturtles); I will be coordinating this portion of the shindig. Go forth and brainstorm!
On behalf of SHL Head Office,
Jess
P.S. if you are still waiting for something creative/artistic from me from last charity drive, I promise, it is in the works, it's just been a bad year for ye olde depression and I've been struggling on that front.

Yes , they’ll probably announce details around this later. But usually it’s been too 3 donators are guaranteed a card, plus 5-8 others randomly get one (if you donate you get your name in a draw)
