Welcome to part 4 of this little team of the week series in which we look at where the team drafted from, what kind of players they drafted, and where in the draft it took place. This time the team of the week is the Buffalo Stampede. Once again, for the rules please go back to the first article of this little series (Edmonton Blizzards). The link is findable at the end of this article.
After the high of the Minnesota Monarchs with their 75 players, the Buffalo Stampede goes back down to 45 players drafted in total. This also makes them lower than Manhattan (48), but still higher than the 29 drafted going to Edmonton in these seasons. Of these 45 players, only 31 are in the index, which means 14 aren’t. First off, the season in which the draft took place. The Buffalo Stampede was definitely most active at the start, and end of this 13 season period, having a 7 player draft in S75, followed by 6 player draft in S65, and 5 player draft in both S63 and S68. Outside of these big ones there are 4 player drafts for S66 and S74, 3 players in S70, and S72, finally a 2 player draft in S67, S69, S71, and S72. Next up we are gonna be looking at the round players are drafted from. From the 45 players drafted in total we see that the 1st round has most draftees with 15, then the 3rd round with 12, followed closely by the 2nd round with 11 draftees. The Buffalo Stampede does go deep into the draft, having 3 picks in the 4tth round, 2 in the 5th round, and even a player being picked in both the 6th and 7th round. Now before we get to the next ones, from this point forward the 14 players who aren’t on the index won’t be taken into account anymore, which means only 31 players are left. First up, in this new selection, the position these 31 players were drafted for. There has been a big concentration of centers, with 8 centers being drafted, this is followed up by 6 players being drafted for both the right wing, as the right defense positions. 4 more draftees joined the team as left defenders, and as goalies, with the remaining 3 players being left wingers. Before going into the J-rounds, of the remaining 31 players there were 5 who didn’t participate in the SHJML draft instead joining via the waivers. This means these players won’t be taken into account in the following 2 sections. This thus means that only 26 players are remaining. Now let’s go to the J-league draft. The Buffalo Stampede’s draftees came mostly in the 2nd round of the J-draft, with 9 players joining the J-league in the 2nd round. Not far away is the 1st round, seeing 8 players coming from that one. Another 4 players came into the J-league via both the 3rd and 4th round, with the final player joining the J-league in the 5th round. Finally, where do the players who join the Buffalo Stampede come from? A total of 11 J-league teams have either drafted, or gotten a player from the waiver system that ended up being drafted by the Buffalo Stampede. The biggest contributors are both the Anchorage Armada, and the Kelowna Knights both having 5 players drafted to the buffalo Stampede. Following these teams are the Detroit Falcons, and the Quebec City Citadelles with 4 each, the Maine Timber and Newfoundland Berserkers with 3 each, the Regina Elk with 2, and finally the Carolina Kraken, Colorado Raptors, Nevada Battleborn, and St. Louis Scarecrows with 1 player each. That was it for the Buffalo Stampede, but once again the mess of the total graph that shows all J-team origins for the 4 teams done so far.
