For those who remember, last season I ranked each player by an evolving metric I refer to as Total Points Earned, but only to myself, because if I say TPE, people start thinking about some other thing. So, still undecided on the name.

At any rate, the idea is pretty simple. Basically, it's about placing some kind of value on penalties, hits, hits taken, and shots blocked. For those who want to read more on the process, check out this link.

One change that I've made since then was that, following this article, I decided to simplify Power Play and Penalty Kill percentages by going with the league average rather than using the team average.

One thing I am thinking about tweaking is that currently, I count all penalty minutes the same. Fighting penalties, however, are kind of unique in that they take an opponent off the ice as well. Are there any cases where that isn't the case?

Any thoughts on how to quantify faceoff percentage?

Reading this made me laugh, memories of playing a buddy in NHL 18 and we had 4 fights. Every time I would only get a roughing call, and he would get the fighting major and a game misconduct. Even if it was me chasing him down the ice trying to initiate. At one point I ran over his goalie, proceeded to initiate a fight and he didnt even throw a punch. All I got was a roughing.

Greatest one sided game I've ever played

That's kind of terrifying. In this sim, though, aren't both fighters removed for 5 minutes?

I believe they are, been here since S20, havent seen a scenario where only 1 player sat for 5 after a fight. Even line brawls even out

Definitely good to hear. I hadn't seen it happen, but I also haven't seen nearly as much. In your opinion, would removing fighting penalties from penalty minutes in the formula make sense on the grounds that each effectively cancels out?
