S71 PT#4: Not My Stadium!

PLAYER PROMPT - Strictly Business

Andren's focus is always on the game. Always. No matter where he plays, he knows what he's supposed to do and that is hit the opponents and score goals whenever possible. Leading up to the game might be a bit of a trial for him. He can let things get into his head when he's not on the ice and if the atmosphere in the arena and surrounding city is really bad, then he might feel like he's not ready, not prepared and that maybe he won't be able to do what is required of him as a power forward and agitator but once he gets out on the ice, all that changes. He's able to reframe his state of mind instantly and it just all becomes all about the game. All the anxieties and problems that were swimming around in his head just disappear; he knows he can deal with that non game time shit later.

Prompt 1

Patya very glad that ghostmans getting new arena! Is good for everyone in this situation for seeing reason. Patya is very much enjoy playing in "college atmosphere" because Patya am never have this experience! Patya not go to college or play the hockeys there, so this entirely new experience for Patya, and Patya love new experiences! Patya am thinking wildest thing person am being kicked out for is one time, during intermission games for audience, a group of peoples am somehow manage to climb over glass and be streaking across the rink! Is crazy! Patya not sure how this happen, but whole team am laugh about it afterwards. Also for celly, Patya would have jumped into crowd, but is glass and nets in way for safeties. Safety much important in the hockeys because people can be getting hurt much bads. Anyway, college stadium is feeling very intimates. Is much smaller and much louder because not much space for sound to travels, so it gets much rowdy! Patya love this! Patya could never be miserables here!

There is a lot that goes into a player keeping an ‘even keel’ to say. For Lasse personally, despite what is said that a players job is the same every night no matter where it’s played, it’s true but Lasse loves to play at home. He loves the environment to see all of his fans in the stands shouting in cheer of his team, and every goal is like a new breath put into him. Away is less enjoyable to play through, but his job is the same. Play a cool even game to make his team succeed any way that he can. Then after the game, away is torture trying to get back on the bus without getting a suit dirty from some drunk fans, while home is a whole different environment. You get to go out the into the lobby to meet some fans, chit chat a bit and all in all enjoy life.

Learning how to keep up your mental focus and fortitude is for sure an important aspect of being a professional player. As such it is a skill that Daniel Grumathan has honed over the years in order to stay engaged no matter the environment of play. Probably the most important part of his strategy is to keep a certain routine pregame. Grumathan personally likes to read for a bit and then jam out to some music by himself before a game. This routine makes it so that no matter where the team is playing currently, there is always somewhat of a feeling of familiarity and these are also tasks that help calm his nerves a bit. Getting a good walk in before the game is also nice for Grumathan to kind of get a feel for the place and it also allows him to explore where the team travels which is always a plus.

Story Mode:

It's a pretty cool time to play during the College Experience ™, because everyone is there just for fun. It doesn't feel like people want to shmooze others with business deals, it's not rich people in high class business seats, nah all John Brown sees is the people cheering them on. The people laughing in the stands, singing along to the songs played on the intercom, it feels so much more natural. So John Brown really enjoys the environment. This to him creates an authentic experience and means the heckling is even more real. It reminds him of when he would go to games at his own college and get to see everything up close to the ice. It was a good time and reminds him of the friends he had along the way. Those are the ones he plays for, those are the people he sees in the stands, and it always makes him smile.

Story mode:

The best part about playing in a college arena is getting issued an "honorary" student ID to access the facilities. Nobody really cares to check IDs on campus, let alone one that looks close enough to real. Darnell can just attend whatever classes he wants (sure, he doesn't get credits towards his degree, but he can still retain the information) for free. Also the cafeteria food. As far as actually playing in the collage arena goes, it's nor much different from playing in the Spooky Dome. The crowd might be a little smaller, but the game is the same. Same number of people on the ice, same number of pucks, same number of referees. By the numbers, hockey is hockey. It sure beats not playing hockey at all or, god forbid, playing hockey in Edmonton. Besides, even if Darnell did have a problem with it, he could probably trick himself into thinking he was just playing a bunch of extra away games this season.

Player Prompt:

Matiss has always been a player that has had a strong mental game to be able to stay focused no matter what the situation is. Matiss has gone through sports psychology training to be able to prepare himself for the pressures of the professional game that takes place both on and off the ice. Matiss does a lot of meditation exercises to be able to clear his head and be able to focus on the game. Prior to each game Matiss does 30-45 minutes of meditation to get in the correct mindset to be able to give his best performance each game. The meditation exercises that Matiss is doing include visualization which he uses to picture what he needs to do on the ice and how to do it correctly and he is also doing deep breathing exercises to reduce stress and anxiety to be able to relax the body and prepare for the game.

Broken Ground

Playing in a 5000-seater sort of would bring back memories of Bastien's youth when he was playing hockey in the Verdun Auditorium in Montréal which is an old arena with around 4500 seats into it. Of course the College arena is better in every way from quality of seats to player ameneties compared to one of Montréal's oldest standing ice rinks. The intimacy of the place is something Bastien would remember fondly as well although nothing gives him more of a thrill than hearing a sold out house of thousands cheering him and the team on when he either scores or the team wins.

At first, Bastien wouldn't have enjoyed it very much because he was used to the big arena's but a discussion with his father reminded him of where he came from and this College thing was going to be good. He will be glad to play in a brand new arena once it's ready though but until then, this place the College location feels like Childhood.

Ricky Koivu is known for being all business when it comes down to it. Obviously he will face situations where the stress levels are largely elevated, but he prides himself on having a cool head and not losing focus on his goals. Before games, especially away games in hostile environments, he will take his time in the locker room to focus up and lock in ahead of going out onto the ice. He makes sure to focus on his breathing and control his anxiety levels, so that when it comes down to it, he just does what he does best, and what he was picked 2nd overall by the Forge to do. The Forge's run to the finals in S69 was an incredible stressful time for a Forge team who had not won a single round before that series. Nevertheless, the team had a strong sense of togetherness to draw on for that run, and since then, players like Ricky have felt hungrier to do the team and it's fans proud and give it all on the ice. My player is actually known in the team for his cool head and absolute composure before any kind of enviroment. His brief stint in a south american development league taught him how to be cool in the face of rowdy violent fans and loud music and pyrotechnics. His main methos is to breathe in and breathe out while counting from 10 to 1 as many times as needed. He prefers to do this with some background music from his nice new headphones he got from playing in that Belarus exhibition match a couple of years back. In his playlist there is a wide variety of music, from old time blues to newer edm beats. He does tend to enjoy hockey themed songs, but unfortunately there arent many. The only thing that truly bothers my player is the incessant talk from backup goalie scoochie. If anything hes the biggest disruption in our game everytime

Staying even keel is one of Rasmus' main strengths and part of what makes him such an effective defenseman. He ran a bit hot at times as a kid and his mouth had a tendency to get him in trouble - but as he's matured he's tried to maintain more of a level head. Being a defenseman means being reliable, and you can't be reliable if you let your emotions or the moment get to you.

This arena obviously isn't the preferred location to be playing hockey - but once you look at it on the surface as a player getting paid to play the game he loves for a living well past his childhood, nothing really seems too big or too bad for your brain to get past. There's much bigger issues than what's being said or done on or around the ice, so you just have to focus on what you can control and let the universe sort the rest out for you.

Does your player enjoy it? What's the craziest thing a fan gets kicked out of the stadium for? Do you ever jump into the crowd for a celly? What's different about playing in a college stadium, especially that your player might remember fondly? If they're absolutely miserable the entire time, why? (150+ words)

Edžus Ozolins, to nobody's surprise considering what has been said previously, is fine with playing in a college arena. Referring to recent interviews, fans can find out that Ozolins actually played a lot in smaller stadiums in his first few years of playing hockey, so he wouldn't be fazed by the change of scenery. In fact, as named before, it might make him perform even better, as while he performs well under pressure, a calm environment is always better for Edžus. The memory of a small yet packed arena with tons of fans pouring their heart out to cheer for their team is one that the player cherishes, and funnily enough, due to Timber fans being that passionate, he gets to live that feeling again with high levels of intensity and noise coming from the crowd! However, he has never jumped into the crowd, scared to hurt someone with all the equipment, and keeping in mind that a bad landing represents a risk for himself.
