S62 PT#6: Wrap-up

PBE Affiliate

Prompt 2

Well, we did it. NL has taken the four-star cup for S62, and what a journey it has been. It started with some new S63s joining us after a sad ending in the finals of S61, getting swept by Vancouver, but that was behind us and S62 was for the taking. Our very own GM of the year winner Ham was very active in setting up the roster, and we were ready. In terms of the regular season, we were off to a great start in 1st place but as the season went by, Lev Lebedev and his cup-winning Whalers were making a push for 1st, and while this was happening Anchorage out of nowhere took 1st place before getting overtaken by Vancouver and leaving Newfoundland in 3rd. The ploofs went by in a flash, with us getting a bye and then going 8-1 through Maine and Carolina to make the finals for the 3rd consecutive year, and this time our opponent was the boats. Anchorage was ready to recreate their regular season magic but Newfoundland, led by excellent goaltending and star performances from many players such as Jeff Larsson, Alexander Mackenzie, and Maxwell King left the team up 3-0 ready to win at home. The game started with Legasse getting the first goal, and a fired up Newfoundland bench was ready to wrap the game up early. However, the boats came out with force and tied it up 1-1 going into the 3rd period. Then, a deserved pair of goals from top Winnipeg prospect Tommy Tightpants both assisted by Maxwell King, the game was over with some insurance provided by Jannik Nordstern. The game was won at 4-1, and as of now the locker room is buzzing and ready for next season, and to look at the championship banner over our heads at every home game going forward (and in FHM).

I am very eager for the next season. Entering a sophomore season with 5 players who each (in my opinion) have garnered rookie of the year consideration. This group is projected to take a huge step forward next season, and I could definitely see a big climb in the standings.WE are also lucky enough not to be (too) impacted by regression with such a young core. Really looking forward to each of use develop into our archetypes and influencing the game and sim. Whether it be steady two way play, bruising physicality, winning faceoffs, blocking shots, I know big things are coming out of Edmonton this seaosn

It has been another wonderfully predictable season here in the Simulation Hockey League. With both the Hamilton Steelhawks and the Texas Renegades making it into the finals for the second year in a row, we have found ourselves in a bit of a plateau. The new regression plan seems like it will be good for the league; careers here were entirely too long. They will still be quite long in all honesty, but hopefully this will help at least a bit. I can understand why some older players are pretty upset about the changes, but the length of careers here make the league feel extremely stagnant. I've been playing for several seasons and it seems like nothing really changes. It makes it hard to stay active in all honesty. I'm hoping for something new in 2022.

Prompt #2

I joined the SHL to be closer to my partner (@Bfine) and it’s been super cool to do that but also to get to know everyone and learn about hockey! I would like to think that I can somewhat hold a conversation about the sport which is awesome. I also love the LR atmosphere in both Newfoundland and in San Fran! I was worried about being “accepted” because I came into the league barely knowing anything about hockey, but there have been so many people to help me out. I honestly love it here and am already planning a recreate. More chef things to come. Thanks for the fun!!!

Prompt 2:

Wow what a season! Joans and the Panthers took a massive step forward when it came to the playoffs by winning our first series since Joans joined the team. Not only that, they followed it up with their 2nd series win and made it all the way to the semifinals of the playoffs and put up an extremely strong fight against finalists Texas, losing in 6 games. Every game was close and it really showed how strong of a team the Panthers are becoming. I think we can really do some big things next season. On an individual note, Jonas surpassed the 50 point mark this season and next season he will aim to repeat the feat!

ok so i do undertans the PT, but too bad that all my PT from PT#1 to PT#4 is affiliate post, only PT#5 that i make the graphic, so yeah just gonna write 100 words here.
gonna talk about the SHL regression, from my point of view, the SHL regression is just to easy and to small. Let's compare it to my other 3 main league, in WSBL the regression start in the 9th season with 15% regression, and each season the regression going up 5% or 10% more. Next is PBE, just like SHL, PBE regression start at 10th season, with 12% regression, and added up every season from 15% to 20% and added 5% to 10% each season after that. Then last is ISFL, in ISFL the regression start sooner in 7th season, with 20% regression, and 25% regression in next season, and 30% in the 9th, and added 10% every season. We can see here that SHL regression not hit the player hard so the player can still earn and play in SHL rather than recreate, i think HO need to think more about regression and make the player can recreate and make the SMJHL more interesting and SHL too

I thought S62 would be one of the more frustrating seasons for the Kraken, but it actually turned into nearly the best season since I've been a part of the team. If not for a late season run of inconsistency, it very well could have been the best season (we missed it by one win). Next season, we lose a number of key players. The roster as it stands right now is shaping up to be extremely top heavy. That's not necessarily a problem, but considering the fantastic amount of depth we've had in previous seasons, it might be more difficult to keep everyone fresh and ready for another division title and deep playoff run. Either way, I look forward to one last run with the team that keeps me coming back to this sim regardless of its weaknesses. It will surely be bittersweet when it's over.

Prompt 2

I'm going to write about a hot topic and that's regression. Now ideally it will change after my current player retires as I want to play as long as possible, but I realize that's a selfish point of view. Regression is far to easy to fight off for a prolonged period of time in my opinion. I'm going into my 6th or 7th season of regression, I'm much to lazy to actually give an exact number and I am still over 1500 TPE. I've been far from a max earner the last couple of seasons as I've missed out on quite a few things, but I am still a formidable player on our team. It looks like I can stave off regression for quite a while and be an asset for many seasons to come with the current regression rules.

This season has been quite disappointing for Calgary. We couldn’t win the division and we got knocked out of the first round in the playoffs. For Barry Batsbak personally it’s been a pretty decent season. As a veteran of the team he was able to contribute a lot in terms of points and locker room presence. It will be interesting to see what next year looks like with more rookies joining the ranks and some vets retiring. Calgary has been going through a retool with flying colors and our future is bright for the next few seasons and we will stay competitive.

Recently in the Toronto LR, I spoke about my concerns about how the SHL treats its GMs. The community finds GMing much less attractive in this league compared with other similar leagues, and the result is that Toronto, New England and Tampa Bay are currently searching for a new GM or GMs. There's obviously a problem here that needs to be identified and solved, but the root is debatable. Is it the (again, compared with other similar leagues) poor compensation in terms of pay and perks for GMing? Or is it something more intrinsic to SHL, where FHM is seen as unfriendly to beginners and the very long (though now slightly shorter due to regression changes) rebuilding and contending cycles caused by how long player careers are? Long rebuilds will discount many users, while long contending periods might encourage GMs to stay in post until after the end of the cycle. (152 words)

Prompt 2:

Well, it was a season. Thats for sure. Not exactly the one I was hoping for but it is what it is. Definitely would have liked to see some better results for my guys on the ice, they really deserve some success. Same goes for the playoffs, it would have been really really nice to atleast get a series win or two this season for this group to get some payoff after sticking around through the really rough rebuild. Theres always next season! The LR has been great as always and its been great to see the guys stay positive even through one of the most negative periods I've seen on this site.

This season was a slightly underwhelming one for San Francisco. With a couple of FA acquisitions and the roster coming up to strength finally, the rebuild is over and it's time for SFP to compete. Before the season, tests looked promising with plenty of chances at making a deep run in playoffs and a good division record. However in reality, FHM was not so kind. We were given a tough run of luck over the season and made it into playoffs in a fairly even match unlike most seasons, but one where LAP were favoured and came out on top. It was just the start of our window though so hopefully next season the sim gods look a bit more kindly on the up and coming team we have right now.

I chose prompt two. My favorite time so far in the SHL is time I spent with both Detroit and the time I'm spending now with Anaheim (where I'm originally from IRL). Overall, I had a blast. Detroit took a risk on me considering my....reputation (I'd say a tad bit unfairly) earned from ISFL (politics does fall under freedom of speech, so whoever leaked that in GM chat...well, I have no words to say to you that wouldn't be NSFW). Getting traded to Anaheim to avoid a divorce was fun heh, but I understand, me being in a few nasty situations regarding women myself (as a note, never anger a woman from Texas. I'm speaking from personal experience).

my rookie season was overall pretty good for being on such a bad/rebuilding team, in the Montreal Patriotes. Setting my expectations very low, I was surprised at the amount of defensive stats I got in my season, while being paired with the leagues leading blocker by a large margin in Abel Skinner who had a whopping 332 blocks on the season. With the Patriotes getting better and better as the seasons so on, I expect the blocks to be more evenly distributed from the Patriotes legend, but for now he will remain the fantasy king for a few more seasons at least, as he fights through regression.
