S58 SMJHL PT #6 - Next Season
#1
(This post was last modified: 03-15-2021, 12:52 AM by Gwdjohnson.)

Now I know we're about to be starting the playoffs now and that's exciting, but well-managed teams always have the long term to consider too. Whether you're rebuilding or a team looking to take it all, what is the outlook looking like for the team next season? Are there lots of call-ups and aging outs on the horizon, or is the squad going to remain relatively intact? Will a lot of new rookies come into the team? How important are these playoffs for your team?

Written option: Talk about how your squad projects to look next season. You could talk about players who will be called up next season and what impact their call ups will have, players who will be of key importance to the team, where you expect the team to be able to finish in their division, etc. (150+ words)

Graphic option: Make a graphic that shows how the team lineup will look next season. Must include players who will age out/be called up, and the expected TPE levels of the players by the start of next season.

Reward
4 TPE for doing the thing. (Just one of the options, not both.)

Only S58 SMJHL Rookies (S59 SHL Draftees) are eligible for this PT.

Do NOT claim TPE for this task until a post has been made in the claim thread.

Link PBE or NSFL submissions here to get credit for Welfare claims.

The Whalers had an entire season of being almost there, but could never really put it all together, it always seemed like they were missing one piece to truly contend with the top teams, but still had enough pieces in place to not be considered a bottom team. They stand to lose a fair amount to call ups to the SHL this season, as most teams do, but there were some rookies that really shined this season that gives a lot of hope for the seasons to come. A large chunk of the first line is set to leave, but scoring seems to be in a good place with rookie Alexis Saint-Michel hitting the ground running this season. Sven Svechnikov grew a lot towards the back end of the season, becoming a dual threat defenseman. Makrus "The Tater" Jaeger signed on late but brings a physical edge. Robot Sunfish is a master of the 3 F's...fighting, feeding, and....yeah. Dara McQuick is a budding shutdown defenseman that really found his groove later on in the season and is looking for a strong sophomore year.

If Vancouver drafts well this upcoming season, they'll be a contender for sure. The S58 and S57 class has laid a great framework and it'll be exciting to see how far they can go.

I think we’ve got a lot of work to do in St. Louis. That being said, next season should be better. We’ve got Xavier Doom leaving us which will be a huge hole to fill, but we have an awesome young core of players. I expect von Gucci, Bouchard, Brady, Bernysen, and possible even Scooby Doo will play at the 350 cap for most of next season with a few second year players making the jump to the 425 cap. The team needs to continue building its defensive capabilities by continuing to invest in defensive players on both the blue line and among the forward lines. The goalie situation improved massively as the season progressed, but we will need our active netminder to stay active and continue to earn TPE, with another great draft like last season it’s possible that we could be looking at a top half finish and be real cup contenders in S60.

This Season Fifty Eight in the Simulation Major Junior Hockey League was, not going to lie, slightly disappointing for the Kraken. We expected to be a lot better than we were. I think this is due to bad sim luck and also growing pains from losing players and having a young roster. But I think next season will be different. While I don't know who will be called up, I think we will keep a lot of our older core. The very strong Carolina Kraken rookies will continue progressing. Also, as a result of having a less than stellar season, we will have a good chance to make a splash in the draft and improve even more. While this season didn't go as planned, I have a feeling we will make huge steps next season. A mix of older and younger players will put the Kraken in a great position to win. Watch out, SMJHL.

As it stands, The Berserkers might only stand to lose captain Vaseline Podcalzone. While this is a MASSIVE loss, as we are the on-ice and locker room leader for the team, we do have a large rookie class that is developing really well. While things could change, it does seem that most of our forwards are returning, which means we will be able to roll 4 really strong lines next year. Three of our defencemen this year are rookies, so we should also have a ton of stability there as well. Seems like most of our pairings are balanced, with one offensive focussed player, and one more defensive-minded guy to keep things safe at the back end. We also have a rookie goalie who has been lights out when called upon, so even if we lose more guys than expected, we are pretty deep at every position. Definitely feel like we could build on our 3rd place finish, and hopefully pass Kelewno and QCC who are (hopefully) approaching the end of their window.

This season was basically a giant roller coaster for the Vancouver Whalers. They started the season abysmally, made up for that with a strong midseason campaign, and then fell off when most of the guys got exhausted by the end of season. Despite this somewhat disappointing season, the Whalers' future is looking bright at this point. Even though there's some players ready to move on to the big leagues, the core of this team is very young, with a lot of active and well earning S58 and S59 players. Players like Zayne Rotzbua, Nikolaj Boyle should be ready for the 425 TPE cap by early next season, and uprising rookies like rookie of the year candidate Alexis Saint- Michel, versatile defenseman Sven Svenchnikov, and the multirole enforcer Robot Sunfish should be nearing or achieving the 325 TPE cap by sometime next season if they all keep up their current pace. Apart from those players, the Whalers also got quite a few late starters, and they'll add to the variety of the team greatly. So while this season isn't over yet, I'm really excited to see how this team will pan out next season; As I'm quite sure that the Whalers will be a foece to be reckoned with by then. (215)

Anchorage will probably lose three key players next season, with the SMJHL's best goalie Chimkin Tendy as well as wingers Slava Petrov and Lemo Pihl all S56 SHL draftees. All is not lost though, as Anchorage's GMs bear and the other guy have prepared for this. Fellow S56 class member Michael Withecheck was traded away in a deal that acquired S58 defenceman Jean-Locke Zidane earlier this season, and Anchorage boasts an impressive contingent of young players who are ready to step up. Gregory Goode, along with the aforementioned Zidane and Bean Beanman, are three of the S58 class' top 20 earners while classmate Paul Binder led the Armada in regular season points and is still improving. In Ville Kurri and Jay Sink, despite picking last in the first round, Anchorage added two more top-12 earners in S59. The comparatively experience center Pablo Salvatici will be thrust into an even more important role, but his 14 goals (tied 3rd among the Armada) and 26 assists (tied 1st) in S58 suggest the Italian is more than ready to step up. It’s been a rough rebuilding year for the Whalers. At many points this season it seemed that they were so close to breaking through and becoming a top half team in the league. Despite this promise they were always one step behind the main contenders of the league and must settle for the 8th seed. That doesn’t mean that there was nothing to get excited about this year. Alexis Saint-Michel was everything Vancouver hoped he would be and then some, Sven Svechnikov emerging as a shutdown defender with great offensive instincts. Dara McQuick is right there with Sven as a possible break out candidate next year. Robot Sunfish is a great offensive winger and Makrus “The Tater” Jaeger was a great late season acquisition with a ton of promise shown in his limited time with the team. Saying goodbye to guys like Captain Koopa and KoBo will hurt, the core of the team is young and hungry and ready to make a serious impact next season. If Vancouver can draft well, the Whalers will be back near the top of the league again soon enough. (185)

So, being very new to the SHL, I'm not totally sure how to really tell who will be called up or anything like that. What I can do, however, is talk about the insanely great S59 rookie class that the Carolina Kraken brought in this season, and about how next season this squad is going to be one of the top teams in the entire SMJHL.

One of our top rookies this season, and one of the highest TPE earners in the entire rookie class, was @Blasoon, Daud Ramza, who has shown flashes of being a premier playmaker for the Kraken this season, en route to a very respectable line of 7 goals and 16 assists. He's also shown he can be a two-way center, as he has also totaled 53 blocked shots on the season.

Following Ramza, we had another rookie forward, Twelve Forty-Seven Fifteen ( @124715 ) who has a total of 19 points on the season - 14 of which being assists.

Carolina's third leading goal scorer this season was yet another rookie, Aleks Blixstrom (@Exilate) who notched 15 scores on the season. These three will go on to form a very strong line together next season, as each brings their own strengths to the line. I project Blixstrom to nearly double his goals line next season as he will in theory have two fantastic setup men feeding him the puck.

One defense the Kraken brought in two fresh faces this season, Granny PanPan ( @GrannyPanPan) and Gino Lombardo. These two bring very different skillsets to the table. PanPan has shown an ability to be a more two-way defender, as she has notched 21 points as well as 95 hits and 63 blocked shots. Lombardo has done one thing extremely well this season - intimidate. He finished second in the league in fights, and has done most of his work in the defensive zone.

Two additional rookies on the Kraken roster that will continue to improve and become key pieces next season are Center Cormac Ponaire (@wumaduce) and Forward Harald Malmquist ( @Kelsynn).

Looking at the standings, it’s obvious that Maine’s season was not ideal to say the least. While there’s always the possibility of an upset of ‘New Finland’ in the playoffs, the Timber have had a rough season due to callups. Fortunately, the team only projects to lose LW Lucas Johanssen before next season, and while his departure will definitely hurt, Maine has a lot to look forward to as Maine will be returning the rest of their first line, including LD Sean Gatez, G Bigga Foryu, Wingers Johnny Tsunami and Puddles O’Duck and C Dogwood Maple. The Timber were also lucky enough to draft a core of active rookies including Centers Miguel Hefeweizen and Maxime Allard, Wingers Julian Kazarine and Shaq O’Neal, defenseman Janne Virtanen, and goalie Bloody Oath who will comprise most of the 2nd and some of the 3rd line. That leaves them short only a single defenseman to have an active 2nd line. With a good draft, the Timber should be set for success for next season. Can they compete for the top team in the Division? I think so!

We here in Anaheim have gotten together a young strong core, destined for success next season in the SMJHL. We have ourselves a young winger duo in Shirakami Fubuki @Emiko and Yours truly, Videl Valor. Despite their solid point totals, (Fubuki had 16 points compared to my 13.) We also have Ryuuji Kawashima, the current projected number one overall pick, and Sekai Walker, another player of ours who is likely to be taken in The first round, Walker had 28 points on the season, while Kawashima had 27 points, as these two are basically stronger versions of Valor and Fubuki. We also have a young defensive core, with Matej Winters, Scott Stevens (that name sends shivers down my spine!) And Zak Wilson. The interesting thing is Wilson is a DFA, making him possibly a target to be poached by any team. One thing is for sure here in Anaheim, a championship window is almost here.

Newfoundland was expected to take a step back this year, but we made a strong push with our young team. While we are focusing heavily on the playoffs this year, our squad looking ahead next year puts us in a strong position to win it all next year. The only player we’re projected to lose so far is our captain Vaseline Podcalzone, with the possibility of losing Bas or Ric as well depending on what their SHL team chooses to do. While they are not easy players to replace, we have a strong rookie class that will be able to fill in the gaps, and a lot of 350’s that will make the jump to 425. The fact that we are keeping all 6 defenseman and both goalies is huge, meaning we only have a few forward spots we need to fill with rookies. With Samuel Savage, one of our DFA’s, already playing well, we should be a strong contender again next year for the Cup.

This Raptors team is one of the most fortunate in the league moving into next season, and looks to be serious championship contenders in the near future.
The only player we're certain to lose to the majors is our 1C in Josh Dolphin, and our GM acknowledges the possibility of Ren-Ekelemchi Shimizu-Oko being called up early as well. While both of these are key players on our team, as any last-year players would be expected to be, we have great young talent coming up to take their place. Down the middle, Noel Blanchet and Leon Schweingruber should give each other stiff competition for that coveted 1C role. Even losing RESO, as he's affectionately known, wouldn't deprive our defense of its top points scorer in Terrence Smith. With a very young bottom six this year that's only going to get better, and a top six strong enough to not only make the playoffs, but miss out on a bye by only one point, and the SMJHL should watch out for the Raptors over the next few seasons. We're primed and roaring to take QCC and KEL's spots at the top.

Looking at Armada's next seasons roster.

Goalies:
Armada will loose backup goalie Kojo Murata, because his 5 seasons will be up. He is the only one with 5 season limit to run out. Probably one of the best goalies in SMJHL Chimkin Tendy will go up to SHL too to take bigger role in SHL. So that means team will need to look for two goalies.

Defence:
Probably defence is position where team will stay strong through out off-season period. Gregory Goode, Bean Beanman, Jean-Locke Zidane all three are from S58 class and all three are cementing teams defence, and with new talent Josh Jennings, Valdis Vējonis and Jay Sink teams defence are in good hands.

Attack:
There is big possibility that team could loose wingers Lemo Pihl, Paul Binder and Slava Petrov, also centre Pablo Salvatici. On other hand there is a chance that they could have two-way deals with SHL teams and most of the season they play in Juniors. And with that possibility in mind there will be some thinking from teams GMs before next draft. Other forwards will need to step up their game too if team will loose their leaders.
