The logical answer might be goal leader Alexis Saint-Michel, however they play for Vancouver, which is a team in a terrible city that is not Kelowna and therefore cannot be in contention. Maybe points leader Robert Black of the Newfoundland Berserkers? But the Berserkers are a great team this year, and if you remove Robert Black from the team, do they really suffer as a result? Can he truly be the MVP if his team does not find him to be necessary to win?

Clearly the answer rests towards the bottom of the league. Someone from Nevada or Maine? No, they are too bad. Ah, there we go, from Kelowna, Defenseman Leons Briedis. 3rd in shots blocked. Leading his team in hits. Has points. Clearly, there is no player more valuable in this league than Leons Briedis. The fact he was the first round pick of Kelowna, a team that is rebuilding, means he has incredible value to the team in terms of future hopes and dreams.

Most valuable player in the SMJHL, you ask? Well look no further. In this essay I will dive into comprehensive advanced statistics that make this argument crystal clear. There’s a well-defined number one player in this league this season, and that is no one other than ROBERT BLACK of the Newfoundland Berserkers. What are these fancy statistics I reference today? It is no more than a simple little stat called POINTS. A point is awarded when a player scores a goal or collects either a primary or secondary assist. You see, as of today, ROBERT BLACK has more of these nifty stats than ANY OTHER PLAYER IN THE LEAGUE. It is pretty clear-cut. ROBERT BLACK sits a whole ONE POINT above Tokkulu Lakkamaa and Jesse Trudeau, solidifying his bid at the SMJHL MVP crown. An abyss below, 3rd place has 43 points, and Gregory Goode and Mikhail Novikov can claim that tarnished crown.
Congrats ROBERT BLACK on your MVP!

Most Valuable Players has long been a disputed award, much in thanks to it's title. To many, Most Valuable is a title deserving only of the best of the best, the greatest player in the league. To others, including myself, however, I take it much more literally: the player who is most valuable to their team. In other words, my choices are players who are most responsible for their team's success, which generally means the winner should be from an overperforming team that is being carried, or the winner should be an overperforming player on a poorly performing team, either way the winner's success should be unmatched among their teammates.

My #1 pick at the moment is Alexis Saint-Michel.
A 5 goal lead in addition to a 7 point lead on those with 5 less goals make him a clear standout. Surprisingly, Alexis is not in the top three minutes played on the team in forwards, so questions immediately come to mind on how he's currently being used and if his current status as #1 is sustainable. Perhaps Alexis' presence on the powerplay is inflating his numbers, but for now that is a non-factor.

Next we have another skater at #2.
Jimmy Larkin-Conway has 6 goals in hand over his 2nd place teammate, including an amazing 5 shorthanded, with most of the remainder even strength and only 2 on the powerplay. The top shot-taker on the team with a high shooting percentage, I see no flaws at the moment in his stats, and should Alexis' success drop off, or should Vancouver's other teammates begin to excel, I expect Jimmy to overtake my #1 spot.

Last we have a teammate of mine, however I do not feel it is a biased choice.
Danny C leads Kelowna goal scorers with 15 (2nd with 13, 3rd with 8) and leads the 13 goal scorer by 9 points in all. Part of the only successful unit on Kelowna, he too gets a fair number of tallies on the powerplay, at the very least more than his teammates. The best shooter on the team, albeit only 4th in shots taken, Danny C is also notable for his lack of playing time in comparison to the top 3 forwards, and his surplus of powerplay time.

Honorable mention to both Kermit Murphy and Podan Podanovic of Detroit who are both leading their team, however both of them being valid candidates means they are eligible due to my criteria.

You know, there is a great many things that can add to being an MVP. Of course Adelie would know all about that. The Most Valuable Penguin award is very prestigious and one that Adelie is always aiming for. After all, his goal has always been to be the best penguin he can be and so being the Most Valuable Penguin is a very big deal to him. So far he has hit the ground running in hockey land as many weren't sure if his skills in football would transfer, but it turns out he is a natural on the ice. So far he has exceeded all expectations as he is currently a rookie stuck on the third line in Anaheim. Despite that he is one of the few rookies with a positive plus/minus and he also has more takeaways than giveaways, which you don't see from rookies often. His 60 blocks are amongst the best in Anaheim and he has been no slouch on hits anyways. He's been putting together a masterful performance this season and if he can improve and pull away from the crowd, he very well may be a shoe-in for Most Valuable Penguin his rookie season.

MVP is such a hard award to grant because there are so many factors that influence it. Sometimes the most valuable player is not even the best one in the league, but the one that is the most vital to their team. This is why despite Robert Black being the most attractive option, he is not the MVP, but Noel Blanchet of the Colorado Raptors is. It’s easy to get that many points when you are playing in a team as stacked as NL. What is impressive is how Noel Blanchet has managed to produce constantly in a team, with so many rookies. He is only 4 points behind Black, so there is a chance he can catch up and math him. Lastly, Noel is leading the league in assists like the absolute chad he is… I don’t see Robert leading anything except points (Which he is getting spoon fed by his stack teammates)

That’s why the GOAT of this season is Noel Blanchet!

The MVP is a very coveted award that only few win in their lifetime. With all due respect to Trudeau and Black, I truly believe, in my non biased opinion, the MVP should be awarded to Noel Blanchet. Blanchet this season has been an elite playmaker, setting up 37 goals this season! He leads all players in the league in assists plus with 7 goals, he is near the top of the league for points at 43. Even though he doesn't currently lead in points, unlike the others, Blanchet is not on a stacked team that farms wins everyday. The Colorado Raptors have been a good team, but no where near the levels of domination the Berserkers have had. Those dudes on the Berserkers just set themselves up for success, and feed points off each other. However, with Blanchet here, you can easily see how generous and team oriented he is. Goals aren't everything!

I first arrived in the league joining the squad over in quebec i looked around and asked my teammates if they thought anyone from our team desreved the The Ideen Fallah Trophy, everyone said that not this year so it made me look elsewhere too see who was on track to win the Ideen Fallah Trouphy and thats where i came across the 6'3 Defenseman in Gregory Goode currrently most points in the leauge as a Defenseman, Gregory Goode clearly sticks out too me as a new comer and will track his progress through juniors into pro as a mentor for young Kayden Pale. Now break down some of the stats on why Gregory Goode should win The Ideen Fallah Trophy. A big thing that stuck out too be was that he is only 3 points under the top in points as a defenceman sitting at 45 while the leader has 48. Goode is also +35 plus and minus stat witch is also  impressive and one of the best in the leauge,

At this point in the season the race is so tight for the Ideen Fallah trophy that it's kind of hard to narrow down just a few candidates for nomination, though its safe to say whoever the winner is, they're likely to come from either Anchorage or Newfoundland, so I'll be picking someone from either of these teams who I believe is the favourite to lock this award up. While the Berserkers are seeing a team wide effort that has put them among the favourites to win the cup, it's Robert Black who I believe has put on perhaps the best performance over halfway through the season. Sitting with a whopping 32 assists (tied for 4th in the league), 48 points (tied for 1st), and top 5 plus/minus and shot totals (+31 and 169, respectively), Robert Black is the key piece for the Berserkers right now, and a big reason why his teammates are all over the top 10 in various categories, including 2 in the top 10 for goals, 4 in the top 10 for assists, 3 in the top 10 for points, 6 in the top 10 for plus/minus, and so on. This award is currently Robert Black's to lose.

In some sports, the Most Valuable Player Award is often a controversial one that may or may not be given to the player that is actually the most valuable player in the league. One of the many great things about hockey is that the MVP is usually clearly identified most of the time and is justifiably rewarded with the honor. I don't really know the history of the Ideen Fallah Trophy, but I'll be operating under the assumption that it follows the same logic.

That said, the obvious and easy place to look is at the leaderboard for points. It's definitely too close to call at this stage of the season, but it's no surprise that seven of the top 10 players on the leaderboard are members of the two most dominant teams in the SMJHL. It's probably safe to say that a player from one of these two teams will likely win the Ideen Fallah Trophy. The difference between Robert Black/Jesse Trudeau, who sit atop the leaderboard with 48 points, and Cole Carter/Gregory Goode, who are tied for fifth place, is a measly three points.

As it stands today, I think Robert Black has the best case with 16 goals and 32 assists for 48 points with a +/- of 31 (tied for fifth). However, with a third of the season remaining, things could easily change in this close race.

I'll be honest, I don't know who is on track to actually win MVP, because I don't know what stats are valued in hockey. Therefore, we're going to write about how Maxwell Carrigan deserves MVP for the sole fact that he leads the league in shots blocked. Now, you might think this is impressive, but when Nevada have had about 4,000 shots against them on the goal, and Willie has saved about 3,500 of those, then Carrigan's 119 shots blocked feels slightly less impressive. "Now Schwarz," you might ask, "Why not vote Willie Miller for MVP?" Why? Well, despite the fact that Miller has made so many saves, he really has let in a lot of goals too, so that his save percentage isn't as great as other goalies, and I'm not quite sure I can find the argument for him over those other goalies. Carrigan, on the other hand, has almost 20 more shots blocked than the next highest person ... who is also on his team. So obviously, with the amount of shots being fired at Nevada's goalie, two of their players are great at stopping them, but Carrigan is much higher and therefore deserves MVP.

I am so sorry. I don't know anything about hockey, this felt good. If this isn't kosher, here's my ISFL affiliate too.
