Winnipeg is a cup finalist for an astonishing fourth year in a row! To make that happen in the current era of the SHL requires serious skill and deserves appreciation. What is it that makes this Aurora era so successful? What have been the most crucial factors in their Western dominance? What lessons should the rest of the league learn from their success?

Well, first of all, Patya am saying Winnipeg much good team. Patya notice many things about this team over last few seasons. Winnipeg am having many players who am much dedicated for becoming all they can be, and also all from mostly same draft class. This way, they am all peak into their prime at same time. Winnipeg also am obviously having much good coaching and GMing because no team am pull this off without these key factors. Patya thinking best way to try and replicate is following same process of having much players be dedicated and getting them all be close in age and also having good management for much success! Patya knowing this much easier said than done but clearly is good for paving way to future success. Winnipeg am very much dominant team and other teams am wanting for be this dominant too. This make Patya sad that he out of his prime and no longer much dominant Russian player

WOWIE! Winnipeg am finally win it all! Patya not very surprised Winnipeg win because this team so much dominant, but Patya am bit surprised it am taking them this long when they been very much good every season for past four seasons. Patya knowing this team win because it am having so much good players who am peaking and hitting prime all at same time, and coaches am finally figure out strategy for dominate in playoffs so for not lose again in finals! Patya favorite part of this series very simple because it be watching Winnipeg win! Patya very happy for this team! Patya was thinking maybe morale is down because they not been winning finals and this team much wagon so is good for see them finally pull it together and be the dominant team they have always been capable of being!

c. The Winny Lights might not have swept every opponent, but they came as close as you can. None of the Winnipeg series in the entire playoffs went past game 5. They were not messing around. Years of losing grasps on a Cup tore down the playfulness of this team. They were all business all the time through the whole playoffs.
d. Well, it's a little easier to write about now that we're post Finals, but I never had a doubt that the Lights would bring it home. It's been inevitable since s69, but the cheeky silverware kept evading us at the last moment. The addition of Max Manning to the front line with the previous two MVPs from the last two seasons was too much for any team to overcome.

3. The sustained success of the Winny Lights can almost solely be attributed to the caliber of its General Managers. Ace and Rash have a extraordinary combination of wickedly smart business acumen and extremely relational personality. I'm not generally a "lifer" when it comes to sim leagues. I want what's best for my team, even if it means to be traded (still love you, Jay&NYR). But I would certainly make a fuss about ever leaving Winnipeg. As long as those two are at the helm, this will be my home for the entirety of my SHL career.
Outside of the GMs work in free agency/drafting, this team has shown their grit and determination. Losing three straight Finals in a row is immensely difficult to overcome in the locker room. But there was never a waver of hope. Instead, the team buckled down even more after every loss and worked harder at earning and acquiring free agents.

Do you foresee any specific upsets in this season's IIHF? Any risers or fallers that might be hot takes? If not, why do you think the best will stay the best?

I think this is the year that France finally gets over the hump in IIHF. We had a strong showing our first tournament as the host, but have since found ourselves in the bottom of the international rankings. While some of our innagural players have aged and slowed down, we are finally seeing some of the younger players step up into larger team roles. Guys like Antoine Beauregard had a strong rookie season for New England putting up 53 points for them. Then there is Georg Nzola who transitioned to defense and managed 34 points this season. The young defensive duo of Sydney Shaw and Elena Maximova have also made great strides this season and look to improve to improve their play at the international level. Other notable risers on the team include Johnny Wagner-Svenson, Luca Pane, Alvin Wong, and Oliver Castillion. With this group of young superstars developing this team should be ready to get to the medal rounds.

I am sure that the Winnipeg Aurora will finally get over the hump this year. Statistically they should have won at least once by now. So the odds that they lose again are highly unlikely. They also have the best overall team from a statistical standpoint, so there is no reason for them to lose. New England, while being a good team, was able to over perform most of the season. Perhaps if they moved rookie sensation Antoine Beauregard to the power play unit it might ignite their special teams a bit. However it seems most likely that the Aurora will be able to stop their offense and overcome their playoff demons.

c) I think the New England Wolfpack had a tougher matchup than the Aroura, having to play the Philidelphia forge. The Forge have been a machine for a long time with great coaching. Their team is deep with many great scorers. Edmonton is definietly no joke, but I think that Winnipeg was the clear favorite. (54 words)
d) In this finals, it would be hard to bet against the Auroura. They have made 4 straight finals now and have been the top team in the league, absolutely loaded with talent at all positions. The wolfpack are stacked too, but I feel that Winnipeg's team synergy is better, giving them the slight edge. (54 words)

3.
Well, I think having a team with as much success as the Auroura starts with the management. Ace has been around this league since its earliest seasons, and has demonstrated great skill in GMing teams, from EDM, to NEW, and now WPG. Having a strong manager to guide the ship is the most important thing for sustained success. We see this with teams such as Buffalo, Hamilton, Philidelphia, and others. All these teams have high tier managers who have been with the team for quite some time. A good manager who is dedicated to the team throughout multiple seasons will be better able to manifest his or her vision on the ice. A huge deal of credit can also go to the amazing users that call Winnipeg home. People like Jess, Rashford, and Chevy are some of our best users and all came together on one team. Its hard to beat a team with such high earners. (157 words)

a. I took Winnipeg – they are just super consistent and the fact that they have an absolutely electric duo up front increases their odds for me! I am just a big fan of what Ace is doing over there in Winnipeg, as I am with Luke in NE, and it would be no surprise to me to see either of them winning the title to be totally honest!

b. I just think that they need to take advantage of their power play opportunities. Since both teams are SO good, I truly think goalies making those timely stops (Which WPG did not do last time) as well as taking advantage of the man advantage will be the key here, as New England is extremely good everywhere and its tough as hell to score on them!

c. I would just say Wolfpack - I just think that the way in which they won showed their grit, determination, and ability to win. They handled the adversity of losing a few games well, and showed their ability to bounce back - some teams do not, they simply just roll over and fold. Very impressed with them heading into the finals!

d. I took New England to win in my original predictions, which would make my bracket entirely perfect, but It is hard to bet against the Ace-Led WPG Aurora team. They have just been super consistent and I just have just a hard time fading a team that has had so much playoff success the last few seasons, so give me WPG here.

5. Written, 3 TPE, Cold Sweat and Frozen Tears (150 words min)
Honestly, it just depends on how long their star players can keep it up! Winnipeg and Wolfpack may seem like its just a handful of dudes scoring a lot of points that basically carry these teams to success – but i disagree. For both of these teams, we need to talk about why they can continue to be relevant for the next 5 seasons or so. Now, am I saying that these teams will NEVER rebuild? No, of course not. But with TPE windows pretty large in SHL, its not about the star players, its about management AND star players, and good depth of course. With Luke and Ace (Among the other co-GMs), both teams are systemically built for success. I think the average person sees the start guys getting all the points, but well managed teams can TRADE for star players, or revamp as needed. Management is truly the golden piece of the success puzzle, and as long as the majority of the team is within the TPE window, both of these teams will stay uber competitive.

“I thought I was a goalie, but STA told me forget being a goalie they make nothing, and no one cares about them.  Guess what I was a center all along and I had no idea. Now I am the toast of the town, and I am getting offers from all the GMs and Scouts.”

Looks like [TEAM] won Season 72! Who won and why? What could the other team have done differently to change the result? What was your favorite part of the series?

Honestly, I’m very much over Winnipeg and the lack of parity, primarily in the Western Conference. It’s been a league-wide problem for a long time and has no obvious answer (though there are still things the league can try). That said, my favorite part of this series was when it was 0-0 and I thought New England could win it. But Winnipeg has finally done it. The first season in quite a while that they didn’t have the highest average TPE forwards, defensemen, and goalies. Go figure. Still, being top three in all areas surely played a role in a fourth consecutive finals appearance and the win this season. Not sure what New England could have done differently. They were dominant all season but were beaten down thoroughly by Winnipeg. [130 words]

Do you have any IIHF teammates that play on division rivals in the SHL? How do you feel about sharing jerseys with them? Have you or your player made any friends on their IIHF team that they never would have otherwise?

The Ireland squad is a big mishmash of old friends who have spread out around the SHL. There’s Minaj, Laroux, and Kove over in Minnesota. They’ve been struggling to rebuild the team over there, so I’m certainly not going to give them a hard time about it. We aren’t the closest guys in the Ireland room, but we’ve been around together in the minors so it’s good to reconnect. Tingle plays down in New Orleans, so there’s no love lost there during the regular season. But this season especially, after they missed the playoffs, I’m not going to give them too much grief.

That said, there are some bigger Western Conference rivals that get together for IIHF. Hargreaves is a good friend from our early days, and he’s with Toasty over there in San Franciso now as they start to build a contender. Then of course there’s Murray and Martin coming in from Los Angeles. Marton goes way back with those guys, to our Carolina days. There’s gonna be a lot of chirping going on, but it’s all in good fun. If anything, I’ll be doing my best to keep the San Fran and LA guys on good terms, considering their tight division and electric playoff series.

Unless New England can alter the course of destiny, I’m not sure that had a snowball’s chance in this matchup. They got the best of Winnipeg two seasons ago, but the fates have taken over since then. Last year, it was Buffalo being anointed by the gods to go on a holy run to the cup. But in season 72, nothing stood in the way of this Aurora team that has always fallen short in the past.

At best, the Wolfpack could’ve petitioned the league for the finals to be played entirely on neutral ice, maybe on an outdoor rink at the edge of Lake Superior or something. Did Winnipeg lose a game at home this season? Seemed like Game 1 of the finals might portend the end of home-ice-advantage but that wasn’t even close to true.

c. The Aurora defeated the Blizzard in their conference final, and the Wolfpack sank the Forge. Who had the more impressive victory to punch their ticket to the cup final, and why?
d. If it ain't broke don't fix it: Who you got? Who wins? Why?

a. It's a hard decision since I have former ties with both teams but Winnipeg Aurora has impressed me most. They've built a solid team targeting this time period for contention and it has paid off. New England Wolfpack is doing well, though, and I'm happy my former team was able to put something great together.

b. Winnipeg Aurora obviously has to win. But really, I'm not sure they have to do much more, they got unlucky two seasons ago as I believe they're the better team overall. They just have to play the averages and let their better team just do better overall over the course of these 7 games.

I think one crucial factor of the Winnipeg Aurora's dominance is the whole team's focus on this cup window. When the GM, Ace, took over Winnipeg he rebranded and cleaned out the roster for picks. He put a lot of effort into the next couple drafts, getting high earners all within a couple seasons of each other. He was able to sign all these players for minimal contracts, and for the most part the players have been cooperative in allowing their team to fit in a lot of great players within the team salary cap. They've put in a lot of effort as a team into getting their team optimized for a specific contention window and now the long run has paid off and they've entered that contention window. The whole team's dominance is just the product of a long term plan coming to fruition over the course of 10+ seasons.

How many more kicks at the can will these teams have with their current cores? Winnipeg has been unbelievably dominant with four straight wins of the Western conference. The Wolfpack have been one of the best teams in the league for several seasons running as well. For how long are these two cores going to keep themselves in that top echelon? Which teams will be their biggest threats next season?

In my humble opinion, both of these teams have been so successful for one main reason: the management. Over the seasons, both teams went through tough, painful rebuilds, drafting top quality players, and building a core of strong guys. Yes, its the players that make a team successful by playing to the max of their potential, but it is all derived from one main aspect of the management putting together this strong core of players. I believe these 2 teams can keep contending for a few years to come, with the right moves from the GM's, but the competition will be tough, don't get me wrong, but a few tams will be really good coming up here, Edmonton, Philadelphia, and for me Toronto will be a powerhouse in a longer time span, probably 5-6 seasons. They have been a bottom team in the league for a long time now, but they have gotten some good prospects, and making big Draft Day moves, they will have the core of a powerhouse team in the years to come.

Well for me WInnipeg impresses me the most, yet dissapoints me the most. They have been close to the best team in the league for the last 4 seasons, making the finals at the same time for the last 4, but always seem to not show up and dissapoint in the finals. For New England, they impress me because they came out of a rebuild fairly fast, and ended up winning a cup here 2 seasons ago agains the same team they are battling now again: Winnipeg.

b. New England vs Winnipeg makes this a rematch of the S70 finals! What does Winnipeg have to do differently to take round two, two seasons later, in season seventy-two?
Winnipeg needs to play like they do what they do best throughout the whole season and all of the playoffs, show up to play, and play Winnipeg styled hockey. They need to play solid offense, capitalize on all opportunities that are thrown their way, but play lots of shutdown defense to cancel out New Englands offense, which they excel at, proven by the amount of points the top New England players put up this season.

As a member of the Aurora I have a good idea of how this team came to be as successful as it has. The first is the very successful back to back S62 and S63 drafts. S62 brought in FIVE core players of the team, Rashford, Kinsinger, O'Neil, Montagne and Jarrow, and S63 brought in Ekholm-Gunnarsson. Every one of them hit, so that's a huge start to a rebuild. Next, Ace and Rashford wheeled and dealed, collecting 1st round picks and assets by trading players they didn't deem to be part of the future core. And finally, once that drafted core started to come into their competitive stages of development, the front office used those stockpiled assets to bring in top veterans on 50% retention that allowed them to really take advantage of the salary cap and stack the squad. They brought in players like Ethan Duncan, Kaapo Kampainen, Noel Blanchet, Miguel Hefeweizen and Max Manning which has given them such a long competitive window. They've now brought in more big names like Mads McBride and Grogu Mandosson, so hopefully we will see that success continue.

THE WINNIPEG AURORA WON THE CHALLENGE CUP. Finally after 2 months shy of 6 years and 4 straight challenge cup finals I have my first Challenge Cup on this site. Honestly feels like a weight off my shoulders, and the rest of the Aurora too. We were honestly an unstoppable force through these playoffs having only lost 3 games through the whole journey. Ace and Rash put a strong team together and Jess' coaching combined with our will to finally get it done drove us to the win. I was honestly surprised the final wasn't a little closer as NEW was such a strong team this season and beat us in the past.

The New England Wolfpack have two defensemen and seven forwards that went over a point per game in the regular season, and one in Ivan Lackasmus that lapped it with over two points per game. They haven't slowed down in the playoffs either, so they aren't just inflated by hot games against the tanks. What is it that makes the Wolfpack's offense so incredibly lethal? Can it be imitated, or only envied? Will it be enough to get them another cup with this core?

Don't really have any explanation other than the shit sim engine we use. FHM is a complete waste. We joined this league to make players that are supposed to emulate what happens in the NHL. There's no possible way anyone in the NHL remotely comes close to the ridiculous numbers that people in the SHL put up. I guess kudos to NE for figuring it out but do we really just want cartoon hockey? That's what this league has become. I tried to make a player not like the others and be a true enforcer but he doesn't even remotely come close to playing like one. So I guess everyone should just keep making clones of what works and hoping they get enough people to buy into it. Can New England win with this core? Without a doubt they have figured out something so more power to them. But to me it just isn't real hocket like the experience should be.[/]

Looks like Winnipeg is in for the win. Basically they won by outscoring their opponents since the goaltending certainly wasn't stellar. We all know goalies don't matter in FHM and this series showed it once again.Winnipeg had 2 guys score over 30 points in 19 games. That's pretty ridiculous and totally unrealistic but that's the way the sim plays so they get credit for utilizing the system better than New England did. My favorite part of the series was it being over since to be frank I'm quite losing interest in this site with it's sham of a sim engine. So kudos to Winnipeg for figuring it out better than New England did.
