S70 PT #5: The Grand Finale

Written Task:  Tell me about how your season went. Did you exceed expectations? Is regression starting to bite? Did you set a new career high? Did your team do better or worse? How did you factor there? What are your hopes for the playoffs - this year or next? (150+ words)

Tom Pedersen is not satisfied with the season. We were all in and wanted to go all the way. But as usual Seattle Argonauts outscored us in the second round. They and Edmonton are now eternal enemies. On a personal level Tom Pedersen is pleased by his own statistical numbers in the regular season. Better in every aspect of the game since last year. But in the playoffs there hasn’t been anything else than utter shite and Tom Pedersen is not happy at all. Been in the playoffs thrice and have been eliminated by Seattle and Edmonton. And during the 24 games that he has played in he has managed 1 goal, 7 assists and -14 in +/-. That is not something to celebrate. Also very sad to see the management leave. Nothing against the new gaffer, but really wanted to win for the management. Sadly the interest has gone way down. Hopefully there will be more seasons, but right now, everything is less fun..

Player Prompt:

I have to say, being deep into regression I really didn't expect much from my player this season. Montreal still saw some value in me and wanted to bring me back, but I really expected to be more of a depth piece for the team. To say I was pleasantly surprised by my performance this season would be an understatement.

Finishing the season with 75 points was only 3 points back from last season's total and 8 points better than the two seasons prior to last. The 35 goals was also my highest since 36 in Season 66. I have to credit the coaching staff for putting together a solid game plan and playing me with 2 great players as well. They clearly saw something in me that told them I can still be a difference maker and they put me in positions to produce. They could have easily placed me in the bottom 6, create that depth and balance the lineup, but kudos to them for seeing past that. I'm very surprised, but also proud of the season I had. I put a lot of work into being as great as I can be and seeing it pay off it nice validation of all that work.

CREATIVE PROMPT

Walton Stromberg's beef with team's color commentator Walton Strongberg finally came to an end. That's at least what it looks like. Stromberg tried to get Strongberg to bury the hatchet by himself, with the coach, with the GM, with the President of Hockey Operations and with the TV channel CEO. Eventually they all decided to give up on this. The channel loved the guy for the media attention he gathers, but finally they realized that having one person constantly bashing a player on public television is not very good PR. Strongberg was fired after the regular season ended, and the channel said that they during the playoffs they will introduce a new commentator, who's supposedly also a former Forge player. The word on the street is that Strongberg took this very hard, and immediately moved out of town, feeling that he had been publicly humiliated. Apparently he thought that as an ex player and an old hockey guy, he should be able to do whatever he wants.

So Alexi Piastri and Alexa ended up becoming great friends and hang out all the time now. Turns out both of them are huge metalheads and have actually started a band together. Piastri had a hard time focusing on hockey when they first started playing music together. Alexa is a badass bassist and turns out Alexi's linemate Dominik Froste is a fuckin machine behind the drum kit. The trio wrote a ton of songs the first week or so that they were jamming together and Alexi didn't really care about hockey too much. Piastri plays guitar, however, the band is still looking for a good singer. They're calling themselves Fallen Royalty for now and may even consider putting out an album and touring in the offseason. The band says that they are influenced by the music of Bolt Thrower, Bathory, Celtic Frost, Kreator, Craft, Satyricon, & Death, among many others. Alexa is a star, the whole band shreds really.. we'll see if music ends up affecting Alexi's hockey career.

PLAYER PROMPT - Written Task

In retrospective, this season really was a blast! I’d say that I exceeded my expectations after having career high in all offensive categories while also having my best defensive season to date. At first, I thought I was gonna have a season without any bells and whistle as, for the first half of the season, I was a defensive force, but I didn’t put up many points. I was satisfied with it as I was still contributing to the team, but, mid-season, my GM’s changed my role for a more offensive one. As such, I racked up WAY more points for the second half of the season. I’m pretty excited for the next season as I will probably put up even more points!

As for our expectations as a team, we didn’t expect to win anything this year as our goal was mainly on improving and welcoming new rookies. We would still have liked to give up more of a challenge to Seattle in the playoffs thought.

Well, the season didn't end the way we'd hoped, but there were plenty of positives to brag about, one of which was the emerging rivalry between goalie and team captain Justin Time and newcomer Conner Snooks. When the two butted heads early in the season, many in the media and the locker room worried about the impact it might have on the team's performance, but after a few rocky games the two settled into a routine of pushing each other to be better. A chirp from Conner after a bad goal would lead to a 40 save game from Time, and perhaps the greatest example was the 5 assist performance by Snooks after being told he wasn't a "team player". On such a young team, tempers are going to flare, and leading by example on the ice can be just as important to the team's development as the locker room leadership by the captains. With a little luck, this Blizzard team will take the league by storm in a couple more seasons.

I think that John Brown has had a decently fine season. While the season is still ongoing, overall the Battleborn have been doing fine. Our Bender Junior is doing great and so are our rookies, and that's the most important part. The J is all about those new fresh faces and I can't be proud enough of them and their work, as well as the work of our GM & Co-GM. The season has been a reflection of their great work and they deserve a lot of credit for it. I think that if I had to do it all over I'd probably do it the same way, I don't see a need for change that much right now. The biggest issues for John Brown wouldn't be on the ice, they'd be off it in his administration position that requires a lot of work and effort to make things better for everyone. But that's a different story

Smurfunkel Dothe had yet again another very strong season for his SMJHL team, the Quebec City Citadelles as a right winger. He played all sixty six games for the team. In the games he played he had 20 goals, 32 assists, and 52 points overall. He also had 1 game winning goal, fourty two blocked shots, and 177 hits in his second season. He did all this in eighteen minutes and fourty six seconds. This season was a bit worse than last year for Smurfunkel dothe both in his own counting stats (he had 55 points last season as a rookie) and for the success of his team (they won a title last year). I had a very big role on the team and with some players careers coming to an end in the smjhl, my role will only grow. I hope next year we can bounce back and have a good run in the playoffs.

Well, I consider myself a fortunate man for s71. I'm on two teams (technically) that are deep into the playoffs. While I don't yet play for the Winny Lights, I suppose I am contractually obligated to pull for them and partake in the virtual high-fives and :sdspin:'s in the locker room. BUT I'm actually playing for the Colorado Raptors, who received a 1st round bye for being, like, super good or something. I am not vain enough to think that I am leading the team in any individual statistic, but I do believe that I've been halfway helpful. At the very least, I've been more helpful than last season. Regular season stats have me helping the team with 70 points and a +23. So that's not nothing, right? I'm more optimistic of contributing next season once the two bonafide Raptor studs are forced to leave (hopefully with a cup in their cabinet) and the Raptors have no other option but to give poor ol Jimmy Ward-Prowse some 1st line minutes. But yeah, to answer the prompt now that i've hit the minimum word count, yeah, I contributed. (-:
